There has been one fatality this year and two serious injuries due to crashes. Overall, there have been fewer accidents than last year.
Drivers say that they've noticed.
'So far holiday traffic has been good. We're traveling to Newtown where we live and we went to Glastonbury where my sister lives,' John Browne, a Newtown resident, said.
State police, the department of transportation (DOT) and department of motor vehicles (DMV) are out on the roads and airways reminding drivers to take it easy and to not drive distracted, impaired or drowsy.
'We know that 100 days from Memorial Day to Labor Day it's going to be beaches and lakes and friends all over the place, but we want them to come home safe,' DMV Commissioner Tony Guerrera said.
