Saiyaara song copied from One Direction track? Tanishk Bagchi reacts to plagiarism allegations
Filmmaker Mohit Suri's Saiyaara continues to soar, both at the box office and on global music charts. The film not only launched newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda but also delivered new romantic anthems for the audience. As per multiple reports, Saiyaara's title track has secured the fourth spot on Spotify's Top Global chart. Despite the song's growing popularity, many on the internet noticed how the track is allegedly resembling One Direction's hit Night Changes and even Jubin Nautiyal's Humnava Mere. Reacting to the plagiarism accusations, composer Tanishk Bagchi finally broke his silence in a recent interview. When asked about the plagiarism accusations, Tanishk told India Today, 'Whatever I do, people will have something to say because they don't have [anything better to do]. They keep on looking for opportunities to put me down. But ultimately, the song will go wherever it's destined to, and that's what's happening with Saiyaara too. As for the comparisons, if you look at the melody, the chords are the same. The A minor scale has just about 3–4 chords, but every melody has a different soul. That doesn't mean anything was stolen.' He further asserted that the song is not copied from any track. 'Even if you can do that, it's really difficult to make it a hit. All said and done, we didn't steal anything. The similarities are fine, it can happen, but it's not like we did it on purpose. Idhar se utha ke udhar nahi kiya (We didn't pick something from there and add it here). We worked on the emotion of the song, and that worked. That's the magic of Saiyaara," he added. Tanishk rose to fame as part of the Tanishk-Vayu duo with hits like Banno (from Tanu Weds Manu Returns) under their belt. He later shifted to solo compositions with originals like Bolna and chart-topping remixes such as The Humma Song, Aankh Marey, and Dilbar. He is popularly known as Bollywood's 'remix king.' Saiyaara's music has been the highlight of the film. It is helmed by YRF.

Saiyaara Title Track Copied From One Direction's Night Changes? Tanishk Bagchi Says, 'Didn't Steal'
Tanishk Bagchi reacts to claims that Saiyaara sounds like a One Direction song. While Saiyaara continues to ride high on music charts around the world, its sudden success has come with a side of controversy. The emotional track, composed by Tanishk Bagchi, has not only grabbed the No. 4 spot on Spotify's Top Global chart but also recently topped the Viral Top 50 list – making it one of the most talked-about songs right now. But as the praise pours in, so do whispers of similarity. Listeners online have pointed out parts of the tune that, they say, resemble One Direction's Night Changes and Jubin Nautiyal's Humnava Mere. Tanishk, however, isn't too bothered by the comparisons. 'Whatever I do, people will have something to say because they don't have [anything better to do]. They keep on looking for opportunities to put me down. But ultimately, the song will go wherever it's destined to, and that's what's happening with Saiyaara too," he said in a chat with India Today. He addressed the criticism directly, explaining that musical overlaps don't mean something was copied. 'As for the comparisons, if you look at the melody, the chords are the same. The A minor scale has just about 3-4 chords but every melody has a different soul. That doesn't mean that anything was stolen. Even if you can do that, it's really difficult to make it a hit." Doubling down on his stance, Bagchi added, 'All said and done, we didn't steal anything. The similarities are fine, it can happen, but it's not like we did it on purpose. Idhar se utha ke udhar nahi kiya (we didn't pick and add anything). We worked on the emotion of the song, and that worked. That's the magic of the track 'Saiyaara'." In an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Tanishk said he looks forward to composing an international track soon that helps him get his rightful share of royalties. 'Jaise international artists ko milta hai, humein nahi milta unless you own the publishing rights. The rights of the title track of Saiyaara isn't with me. It's with the music label. I'll only get so much money. I try to not bother myself because it is what it is. But when I make an international song in the future, I know that I'll earn in billions. I'm waiting for that moment," he said. First Published: July 29, 2025, 09:49 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Tanishk Bagchi denies Saiyaara track being copied from One Direction, Jubin Nautiyal
The title track of 'Saiyaara' is bringing joy not just to audiences with its melody and lyrics, but also to the makers, as it climbs the global charts. The Tanishk Bagchi-composed song currently sits at #4 on Spotify's Top Global chart, and recently topped the Viral Top 50 the growing adulation, the team has also faced criticism for parts of the tune sounding similar to One Direction's 'Night Changes' and Jubin Nautiyal's 'Humnava Mere'. We worked on the emotion of the song, and that worked. That's the magic of the track 'Saiyaara'."The music composer discussed the song's global popularity, sharing that while this was something he had always dreamt about, he didn't know it would surpass his expectations."The best thing is that it's an original Hindi song, a pure Hindi song. There is no collaboration with foreign artists; everyone associated is home-grown, so that's a big achievement for me. I did have an intuition that this could go viral, but I never expected it to top global charts. I think it's purely the hard work on the song and the pure intention that worked in its favour," he added that his team and even his family, including his mother and sister, are following the charts continuously and keeping him updated about the song's Bagchi further shared that he's always looked at as someone who only does recreation, and hence 'Saiyaara's' success will also help me break out of that mould. "People do come to me saying only I can do the recreation, and I know I will have to indulge it. I can't say no to everything, even though it only gets me abused. But this song has proved that I can also give an original superhit too. The issue is that these opportunities don't come every day. If I get enough songs like Saiyaara, then there would be no need to do recreation. But till then, I have to also survive," he shared.'Saiyaara' is currently running in theatres. Directed by Mohit Suri, the film features Aneet Padda and Ahaan Panday in the lead roles.- EndsYou May Also Like

Granddaughter of late Indonesian billionaire Eka Tjipta Widjaja pays S$25 million for Singapore bungalow
[SINGAPORE] A granddaughter of the late Indonesian billionaire Eka Tjipta Widjaja has purchased one of Singapore's highly coveted bungalows for S$25 million. Mimi Yuliana Maeloa bought the house covering almost 767 square metres (8,256 square feet) on Chatsworth Avenue, according to a property filing in late June seen by Bloomberg News. The house is near the country's main Orchard Road shopping belt. Maeloa, a Singapore citizen, is the daughter of Sukmawati Widjaja, also known as Oei Siu Hoa. Widjaja is one of the children of the late tycoon, who built a multi-billion dollar empire with businesses spanning paper and pulp to financial services before his death in 2019. Maeloa formerly worked at investment banks including Goldman Sachs, and has been a director since 2010 at Top Global, one of the property firms run by her clan. She is also the director of a family office registered in 2022, known as SW Global Management, according to corporate filings seen by Bloomberg News. The bungalow is being sold by Raymond Phee, who's the chief executive officer of a local distributor of electrical appliances and stationery, among various other roles, according to property and corporate filings. Maeloa and Phee did not respond to requests for comment. The home is located in a so-called good class bungalow area. There are only about 2,800 of these properties, making them highly sought after by the ultra rich. Foreigners face major hurdles to acquire them, including a need for government approval. Some homes can fetch eye-watering prices. A mansion in Tanglin Hill sold for S$93.9 million earlier this year to a Malaysian banking scion. That set a new record of S$6,197 per square foot, more than twice the rate for the Chatsworth property. BLOOMBERG
