Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show hosts scholarship awards
The Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show concluded Saturday with the presentation of awards and scholarships, followed by the annual sale.
The Hardluck buckle went to Lillie Allen, who had used her Tops in Texas Catch Calf certificate to purchase a goat. Two weeks prior to the show, the goat got sick and died.
The Herdsman Award, which recognizes the club or chapter that maintains the cleanest, most organized and professional stall area during the show, was presented to Lookout 4-H.
Chayton McCurley, with Bullard FFA, was presented the High Point award, which included a buckle and a $1,000 scholarship. A second place scholarship, also $1,000, was awarded to Reagan Whitney, Bullard FFA.
The Coverall Classic scholarships, $2,000 each, were awarded to Lindsey Lowery, Troup FFA; Emily Monday, Wells FFA; Tilly Rae McFarlin, Bullard FFA and Conner McCartney, Troup FFA.
The Texas Extension Education Service presented the Cherokee County District 5 and State TEEA scholarships, in the amount of $4,750, to Ty Glover.
The Ag mechanic scholarship of $500 was presented to Kyle McNew of Rusk FFA.
Hay Show scholarships, in the amount of $1,000 each, were presented to Ty Glover and Kyle McNew.
The Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and Exposition, along with partner Christus Trinity Mother Frances, awarded six $1,500 scholarships. The recipients were Emily Monday, Wells FFA; Trevor Arrington, Jacksonville FFA; Kay Lee Tarrant, Jacksonville FFA; Tilly Rae McFarlin, Bullard FFA; Maylee Jenkins, Jacksonville FFA and Kyle McNew, Rusk FFA.
The total amount raised from Saturday's sale was unknown as of press time.
Trevor

Maylee
Maylee Jenkins, Jacksonville FFA; was among six recipients of $1,500 scholarships from the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and Exposition.
Tilly Rae
Tilly Rae McFarlin, Bullard FFA; was among six recipients of $1,500 scholarships from the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and Exposition.
Kyle
Kyle McNew, Rusk FFA; was among six recipients of $1,500 scholarships from the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and Exposition.
Emily
Emily Monday, Wells FFA; was among six recipients of $1,500 scholarships from the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and Exposition.
Kay Lee
Kay Lee Tarrant, Jacksonville FFA; was among six recipients of $1,500 scholarships from the Cherokee County Junior Livestock Show and Exposition.
