Working to make farmers self-reliant, says agri min Tirkey
Gumla: Agriculture minister Shilpi Neha Tirkey distributed assets worth Rs 3.3 crore among 1,800 farmers at a function here on Thursday. Speaking on the occasion, Tirkey said the state govt is working to make Jharkhand's farmers self-reliant in the coming years. Tirkey added that every farmer and farm groups are being provided with subsidy-based agriculture assets under the Mukhiya Mantri Tractor Vitran Yojna and Krishi Yantra Protsahan Yojna. "Under these, farmers have freedom to pick agriculture equipment of their choice," she said. Tirkey also briefed the farmers about the various schemes run by her department and assured them that they could personally contact her if they have any issues. Torpa MLA Sudeep Guria and executive director of Jharkhand Agriculture Machinery Testing and Training Centre R P Singh also addressed the farmers who came from Gumla, Lohardaga, Ranchi, Khunti, and Simdega districts. Gumla deputy commissioner Prerna Dixit said, "Agriculture is the mainstay of livelihood. The govt's objective is to ensure that farmers become empowered and self-reliant using technical support and modern resources. "

Road link to Odisha severed after bridge over Khunti river caves in
1 2 Ranchi/Daltonganj: The Pelol bridge, built over the Banai river on the Khunti-Simdega main stretch connecting Odisha, caved in on Thursday in Khunti district due to incessant rain over the last 48 hours. This incident snapped the road connection, leaving many vehicles, including trucks, stranded. The movement of vehicles heading towards Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, and Kolkata was affected by the incident. Torpa MLA Sudeep Gudia and Khunti MLA Ram Surya Munda visited the bridge to assess the situation. Gudia asked the administration to put up barriers on both sides of the bridge to prevent the movement of vehicles and people on it. Munda said, "The bridge was quite old, and it will be rebuilt on a priority basis." Khunti SDO Deepesh Kumari said that the district administration is diverting vehicles to other routes and added that the executive engineer was also asked to inquire into the incident. Sources said that the bridge was built at a cost of Rs 6 crore in 2007-2008.
