Torvill and Dean to be honoured twice in Nottingham ahead of final dance in the city
Ice skating legends Torvill and Dean are to be honoured twice in one day in their hometown of Nottingham to mark the final dates of their last ever tour.
Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean have announced that their last performance together will take place on Saturday, July 12 , in Nottingham, back in the city where it all began 50 years ago.
Today, the iconic Olympic Gold medallists will be unveiling new gold signage on the Nottingham Express Transit tram which has already been named in their honour.
It's been refreshed and updated to celebrate their achievements at this landmark time in their career.
The celebrations will also continue at the National Ice Centre where one of the ice rinks is being named the 'Torvill & Dean Rink'.
Speaking in Sarajevo last year, when the pair first announced their final tour, they told ITV News Central about what Nottingham means to them.
Christopher Dean: "Nottingham is home. It feels like a warm hug. "We walk around the city and people simply say, 'hi Chris, hi Jayne'. We feel like the children of the city."
Jayne Torvill said: "It's where we grew up, not many cities had an ice rink but Nottingham had a well established ice rink and there was a great interest in skating there. So I think fate had it we both grew up there."
Asked whether Nottingham, and skating to a home crowd would be their favourite stop on the tour, the pair smiled and nodded.
The 32-date farewell tour has seen Torvill & Dean tell the story of their amazing 50-year partnership.
They've been joined on the ice by 15 professional skaters to take the audience on a journey through their career from the very beginning to the present day, with a nostalgic look at the 70s and 80s.
The tour began in April, at the London OVO Arena Wembley before heading to Belfast, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Newcastle, Liverpool, Glasgow before coming back to Nottingham.
