'Sharjah Heritage' launches the "Sharjah Summer Camp"

Aisha Ghabish, who leads events and activities at the institute, shared, 'The camp reflects our mission to raise awareness of our national heritage among children. We want to present it in ways that are modern and interesting to them, allowing them to explore Emirati identity in an enjoyable way.' Marwa Jassim Al Mazmi, the event coordinator, noted that this year's theme is "Sharjah Summer Camp," which symbolizes traditional summer gathering places. The program includes a mix of events, activities, hands-on workshops, and field trips. Highlights feature a play titled "Towards Fifty," workshops about life in the desert, and puppet shows. On the first day, kids enjoyed a theatrical performance called "Towards Fifty: From the Glow of Pearls to the Light of Space," presented by the Rubu' Qarn Center for Theater and Performing Arts. This performance took them on an exciting journey through important moments in Emirati history. The day also included a workshop about the Bedouin lifestyle, recording a segment of the "Voice of the Summer" podcast, and a fun puppet show. Throughout the camp, children will take part in various workshops, such as spinning and weaving, folk storytelling sessions titled "The Jewel of the Tale" and "Pearls and Jewels of Tales," traditional cooking classes, and educational visits to local attractions like the Sharjah Falconers Club, the Camelicious Factory, and the Rubu' Qarn Foundation. The camp will conclude on Thursday, July 24, with a special closing ceremony that features a panel discussion called "Building a Generation That Holds Our Heads High," storytelling performances titled "The Magical World of Tales," and an open session where kids can ask questions. The event will also include a recognition ceremony where participants will receive awards and certificates for completing the camp.

"Towards Fifty": Nation's journey brought to life on stage

From the sea to the fields The concert began with vivid scenes of the sea: trips, pearl diving, and fishing, complemented by traditional tunes that previously rang across Emirati coastlines. The narrative then moved to the desert and farmlands, capturing the essence of agriculture and trade. As the story progressed, it chronicled the emergence of education, industry, urban development, and scientific success, providing a vivid vision of a nation transforming into a beacon of modernity and wealth. The leap into space The performance concluded with an incredible scene: a leap into space. The show commemorated the UAE's pioneering role in space research and the construction of scientific institutes, exemplifying a limitless aspiration. "Towards Fifty" unfolded as an exciting visual journey — "from the glow of the pearl to the light of the cosmos," emphasising the stages of progress that led the UAE from a life moulded by sea and desert to leadership among the stars. A message for future generations Dr Adnan Salloum, Performing Arts Expert at Rubu' Qarn Centre for Theatre and Performing Arts, spoke on the occasion: "This performance tells the story of a nation, from the depths of the sea to the sands of the desert, from the simplicity of life to the boundless expanse of space. We use it to describe the early days of our ancestors' lives in seafaring and agriculture, as well as to commemorate our country's creation and growth. Towards Fifty is more than just a historical showcase; it is a sincere message to future generations about how ambition and hard effort may construct a limitless future." Commitment to nurturing national values The project "Towards Fifty" exemplifies Rubu' Qarn's unwavering commitment to teaching national ideals and cultivating a profound understanding of the UAE's inspirational journey in the hearts of its future generations.
