'Fix the economy Jim': Australian Treasurer Jim Chalmers roasted online after revealing he's a megafan of American rapper Snoop Dogg
Treasurer Jim Chalmers has revealed his favourite musical artist is none other than rap legend Snoop Dogg- and it's sparked a flurry of reactions online. Appearing on the Today Show on Wednesday, the Treasurer told host Karl Stefanovic he was a "big fan" of the US rapper, who will headline the 2025 Toyota AFL Grand Final. When asked for his thoughts on the 53-year-old hip hop icon, Chalmers delivered an answer that caught Stefanovic off guard. "A Snoop Dogg song is my ringtone on my phone, Karl," Chalmers, speaking via video from Canberra, said to a surprised Stefanovic in the studio. "It's 'Still Dre'. I think Snoop's best work is with Dr Dre," he added. "I've taken all the cuss words out so it's just instrumental." Right on cue, the track's famous piano intro played, prompting Chalmers to giggle. "That's the one, that's my ringtone Karl!" he said excitedly. Stefanovic cheekily challenged the Treasurer to sing it: "I will give you 100 bucks if you sing this song." Chalmers laughed it off. "I won't be doing that Karl, because as you and I both know, from the dance floor of the City Rowers in the 1990s, there's a lot of cuss words in Snoop's songs, which are unrepeatable at 7am," he said, referring to the now-closed popular nightclub at Eagle Street Pier in Brisbane, where both men grew up. "But I think it's great that Snoop's doing the GF, and I'm looking forward to him performing." Stefanovic then took a playful swipe at 3AW's Tom Elliot, who has slammed the AFL's entertainment choice. Elliot earlier called it a "terrible decision", claiming: "This is at odds with what the AFL is constantly lecturing us about – you know, respect towards women. I can tell you, the hip hop culture has anything but respect towards women." "Take that, Tommy Elliot!" Stefanovic said. After Chalmers' interview, co-host Sarah Abo declared: "The Treasurer has spoken, it has got his tick of approval." Entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins also weighed in: "Gee, those cabinet meetings must be a blast, with DJ Albo spinning the decks and Jim rapping away." Stefanovic followed with another tongue-in-cheek jab: "Is it smoky in there?" a nod to Snoop Dogg's well-known fondness for marijuana. Social media lit up after the Treasurer's Snoop Dogg confession. "That's f*****g amazing! How can u not be a Boss man when u wake up like that," one fan wrote, while another added: "Gen X here, I approve this message!" But not everyone was impressed. "How about you guys talk about how this clown wants to destroy Australia's copyright laws so that AI tech bros can steal art from ACTUAL Australian artists who are worthy of 'entertainment' news," one critic wrote. "This man is a clown," another said, while a third added: "Hahaha what a complete load of crap – maybe fix the economy, Jim."

Liam Duggan's top 10 moments ahead of game 200
Liam Duggan etches his name into West Coast's history books on Sunday as he notches 200 career games. So, from premiership triumph to becoming a co-captain, The West Australian relives 10 of the defender's best moments. There are many great AFL players who never reach the pinnacle of our sport, but in one of the great modern grand finals, Liam Duggan scaled the summit. In just his third season, the rebounding defender flourished on the big stage. He collected 16 disposals and three tackles as West Coast ran down Collingwood in an instant cassic. Alongside forward Oscar Allen, the rebounder has provided an example on and off the field. And given Allen's string of significant injuries, Duggan has carried the captaincy load with aplomb. He also got to debut at the historic Subiaco Oval. Liam Duggan of the Eagles. The Victorian put pen to paper on a four-year contract that will see him remain an Eagle for life. He will be 31 at the end of his current contract. West Coast Eagles Co-Captain Liam Duggan. A draw at full time, the game went to two periods of extra time only to need Luke Shuey to kick the sealer after the final siren. Duggan had 10 disposals. Duggan's first century of matches brought plenty of success and it was no different on the day in round 17, 2020. Duggan collected 15 disposals and six tackles as the Eagles gave him a 15-point win over St Kilda to celebrate. Liam Duggan of the Eagles is chaired off after playing his 100th AFL match. While it didn't work out in the early stages, Duggan was a driving force behind the effort to stop the club's skid. In round five against Collingwood, he produced a career-high 36 disposals to lead the Eagles to victory by 27 points. Jamie Elliott of the Magpies and Liam Duggan of the Eagles. Duggan has four career votes and two of them came against Essendon in round eight, 2024. Despite a six-point defeat, his 26 disposals, two clearances and 10 rebounds were brilliant. He was given two Brownlow votes as consolation for 31 disposals and two clearances in a strong win. Liam Duggan of the Eagles and Michael Walters of the Dockers wrestle. Matthew Priddis wins the clearance and finds Duggan running around the front of the pack with a handball. The left-footer takes his time to steady and dobs it through to give his a side the lead. The AFL grand final will again be a daytime affair, starting at 2:30pm in 2025
Tradition has won out and there won't be an AFL night grand final in 2025, with a daytime start locked in. Amid ongoing annual debate about shifting the game to a night-time, or even a twilight spot, AFL CEO Andrew Dillon confirmed the decider would start at 2:30pm. A day after Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge suggested a night-time grand final could impact celebration time, Dillon said there was no move to shift away from a timeslot which remains the preferred among most fans. The AFL Commission ratified the recommendation of a 2:30pm start at the Commission meeting in Melbourne on Tuesday. But the Commission will continue to review the start time for future grand finals. 'The Toyota AFL Grand Final is our competition's best moment, there is nothing like the roar that goes around the MCG when the ball is bounced to start the biggest game of the season.' Dillon said. 'We will continue to work closely with our broadcast partner the Seven Network to create the most amazing sporting event in the country, both in the build-up during the week and on the last Saturday in September.' Beveridge, who has been involved in multiple grand finals at various club, including coaching the Bulldogs to the 2016 flag, said there was a key reason to play in the day time. 'Having experienced some success on that day whether it be with our club, the Hawks, the Pies at this level, or even at St Bedes, the simple thing for me is the winning team gets all night to celebrate,' he said. 'Regardless of what the best broadcast time is, but if you play a night time and the game finishes late at night, it would be a shame for the winning team to be too cooked to celebrate it.'
