Toyota Accelerates Production Innovation with Stratasys; Drives Efficiency, and Improves Lead Times with Additive Manufacturing

MINNETONKA, Minn. & REHOVOT, Israel--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stratasys Ltd. (NASDAQ: SSYS), announced today that Toyota's production engineering group is accelerating innovation on the factory floor through its strategic collaboration with Stratasys. The automaker is empowering automotive workers to seamlessly integrate advanced 3D printing technology in their manufacturing process, taking tools, fixtures and jigs from initial concept to working prototype in just one day. Through the more than 10-year partnership with Stratasys, Toyota engineers have access to industrial-grade 3D printers and advanced materials designed to withstand tough factory conditions. These Stratasys high-performance polymers reduce reliance on external suppliers and long lead times, giving frontline engineering teams the ability to iterate rapidly and adapt to shifting production needs in real time. Toyota is currently using the Stratasys F3300, F900, Origin One, F770, Neo800, H350, F370, J850, and Fortus 450mc printers to produce robust factory tooling, end-use parts, and functional prototypes throughout its North American facilities. See how Toyota is using additive manufacturing in this video. By integrating Stratasys industrial 3D printing solutions across its North American operations, Toyota can transform ideas into durable, customized tools that support workflows, enhance worker safety, and withstand wear and tear. Much of this work is powered by the Toyota Add Lab, the company's in-house additive manufacturing center that was opened in January 2023 and dedicated to accelerating R&D and factory innovation. 'Sometimes we start with nothing more than a sketch on paper or an idea in our heads,' said Dallas Martin, Additive Manufacturing Engineer at Toyota North America. 'We can model it digitally and hold a working part in our hands the very next day. That speed lets us move quickly, implement safer solutions, and continuously iterate to improve our processes.' The collaboration reflects Stratasys' broader commitment to helping automotive leaders transform their manufacturing workflows with scalable, cost-effective additive solutions that drive innovation. From jigs and fixtures to ergonomic aids and complex assembly tools, additive manufacturing is helping Toyota team members solve production challenges with unprecedented speed and flexibility. 'Additive manufacturing has transformed how our teams collaborate and innovate,' said Lisa Bednar, Group Manager, Production Engineering at Toyota North America. 'Instead of sending an idea out and waiting weeks for a part, we're building it ourselves, refining it the same day, and getting it into production faster. It's not just about speed — it's about giving our people the tools to think differently and act immediately.' Thanks in part to the Add Lab's innovations, Toyota engineers have used 3D printing to redesign a door assembly fixture, creating a lighter, more ergonomic tool on-site in just a few days. In another case, they developed a custom window alignment jig that turned a multi-person job into a one-person task, boosting both safety and efficiency. 'Toyota is a standout example of how leading manufacturers are leveraging additive manufacturing to deliver meaningful operational impact,' said Rich Garrity, Chief Industrial Business Officer at Stratasys. 'Their teams are using our technology to move faster, adapt on the fly, and build safer, more efficient production environments. We're proud to support a partner that's turning bold ideas into real-world, measurable improvements on the factory floor.' About Stratasys Stratasys is leading the global shift to additive manufacturing with innovative 3D printing solutions for industries such as aerospace, automotive, consumer products, and healthcare. 2026 Toyota RAV4 goes all-hybrid: New models, more power and bold design

America's bestselling non-pickup will switch to an all-hybrid lineup when the 2026 Toyota RAV4 compact SUV goes on sale later this year. The dramatic move follows Toyota's change to all-hybrid last year with the Camry, America's No. 1 midsize sedan. Toyota is dramatically increasing sales of hybrid and electric vehicles at the same time the company says U.S. tariffs will raise prices and make it harder for people to afford a new vehicle. 'A 25% tariff is not sustainable long term without significant price increases,' Toyota North America Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Mark Templin said at the company's sprawling headquarter complex in Plano, Texas. 'They put a new car out of reach of many consumers.' The new RAV4 lineup will include plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and performance GR-Sport models as the automaker looks to expand sales of its franchise vehicle. The PHEVs will produce 320 horsepower, up from 302 for the 2025 RAV4. The sporty GR-Sport will be a PHEV. Key features: DC fast charging port for PHEVs Nine-speaker JBL audio Head-up display Standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Toyota's "hammerhead" grille and front lights are new, along with LED taillights. The interior features a 10.5- or 12.9-inch touch screen, depending on trim level. Digital climate controls are integrated into the bottom of the screen. A 12.3-inch digital instrument replaces 7-inch mechanical gauges. Upper trim levels will get a toggle-switch gear selector. Toyota Redesigns America's Best-Selling RAV4 SUV to be Fully Hybrid

Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) has declared that it will only sell its updated 2026 RAV4 SUV as a hybrid or plug-in hybrid, doing away with conventional gas-powered models. America's best-selling SUV, the RAV4, will continue to use a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with hybrid technology. Workers assembling a car in a modern manufacturing plant, emphasizing the company's sense of progress. Strong consumer demand was mentioned by David Christ, head of Toyota North America, who noted that in 2024, hybrids will account for 44% of RAV4 sales and plug-ins for 6.5%. Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM) has not yet revealed the price of its upcoming U.S. sales. In 2024, the company's RAV4 sales increased by 9.3% year over year to about 475,200 vehicles. The firm's electrified vehicles made up 43.1% of its 2.3 million U.S. sales the previous year. Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM)'s decision to switch to hybrid-only RAV4 models coincides with rising tariffs and a slowdown in the uptake of all-electric vehicles under President Donald Trump's administration. Trump's 25% tariffs have raised concerns about costs because 84.3% of RAV4s sold in the United States are now imported, primarily from Canada and Japan. Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM)'s COO, Mark Templin, hinted that the company would boost RAV4 production at its Kentucky facility, but he did not disclose plans to mitigate tariffs. According to Cox Automotive, the RAV4 continues to be one of the best-selling cars with just 29 days of inventory and high demand. Additionally, the switch to a hybrid-only model complements Toyota Motor Corporation (NYSE:TM)'s expanding lineup of seven other hybrid-only vehicles. While we acknowledge the potential of TM to grow, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and have limited downside risk. Toyota Considering Small Pickup for the US to Rival Maverick

Small pickups are having a moment. Trucks like the Ford Maverick and the Hyundai Santa Cruz are flying off the shelves, while startup Slate Auto is seeing huge interest for its back-to-basics, small electric utility pickup . Now, it seems like Toyota wants to get in on the action. 'We're looking at it,' Mark Templin, Toyota's chief operating officer in the United States, told Bloomberg in an interview published Wednesday. 2024 Toyota Hilux Champ Bigger full- and mid-size pickups still account for the majority of sales, but their increasing prices and sizes have consumers—whom are more cash-strapped than ever—looking for more affordable, efficient options. Ford sold 131,142 Mavericks in 2024, an increase of nearly 40 percent over the year prior. So the demand is certainly there. 'We could really do well in that segment, so we're trying to do it,' senior vice president for planning and strategy at Toyota North America Cooper Ericksen told Bloomberg . 'It's a matter of timing.' We're inclined to agree. Representatives for the brand went on to tell Bloomberg it sees the compact truck segment as a way to bring in more budget-minded fleet and retail buyers who want the utility but don't want to shell out $42,000 for a new Tundra. Add in Toyota's reputation for steadfast reliability, and you've got some serious potential here. While Toyota didn't get into specifics like pricing, specs, or delivery timeline, it's safe to assume a small Toyota truck would compete directly against the Ford Maverick, which starts at $29,840 including destination. Such a pickup would likely also borrow the company's current corporate design fascia. Toyota has some recent history in the small trucking game. It introduced the Hilux Champ , shown above, in 2023 for overseas markets. The tiny truck proved an internet sensation thanks to its utilitarian nature, simplicity, and $13,000 base price. Sadly, a small Toyota pickup meant for American buyers would likely share very little with the Champ. But there is precedent within the brand. With the demand for small, useful vehicles increasing every day, it'd be crazy for Toyota not to break into the segment. Hopefully it dives in sooner, rather than later.
