One dead and one injured after head-on crash in Smyth County

SMYTH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal two-car accident that occurred on Friday, June 6, around 9:34 a.m. on Route 16 near the Intersection with Old Prater Road in Smyth County. According to police, a Toyota Scion was traveling east on Route 16 and crossed the center line. A Dodge Ram 2500 was traveling west on Route 16 and attempted to avoid the Scion, but it crashed into the Dodge head-on. One dead and two injured after crash in Rockbridge County The driver of the Scion died on the scene and has yet to be identified. The driver of the Dodge was taken to the Smyth County Hospital with serios injuries. The crash remains under investigation. WFXR News will update this page when new information becomes available. (WJHL) — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating a fatal crash in Smyth County on Friday morning. According to a news release from VSP, a Toyota Scion was traveling eastbound on Route 16 when it crossed the centerline just after 9:30 a.m. VSP investigating I-81 crash in Bristol 'A Dodge Ram 2500 travelling westbound on Route 16 tried to avoid the Scion, but the Scion struck the Dodge Ram 2500 head-on,' the release stated. The driver of the Toyota died at the scene, VSP reported. The driver of the Dodge was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The crash remains under investigation. ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WSPA) – The Asheville Police Department (APD) is investigating a car crash after it left one motorcyclist dead. On Tuesday, April 1st, officers were called out to the 320 block of New Leicester Highway. Authorities say that a 2008 Honda VT750C Shadow motorcycle, driven by the victim, was traveling south when a a 2014 Toyota Scion attempted to turn left from the Highway into a parking lot, colliding with the motorcycle. The victim, 69-year-old Norman Lawrence Murray, was transported to Mission Hospital, and succumbed to his injuries on April 2nd. The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing. What we know On Friday, police shared they were looking to locate Harron DeJesus, 31, who they say was wanted in connection with a sexual assault that occurred on Saturday, March 8, 2025, on the 6300 block of Old York Road. Police said DeJesus may have been driving a gray Toyota Scion and he was considered armed and dangerous. In an update Saturday, police say DeJesus is now in custody. Police also located the vehicle. BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET)– On Sunday, March 9, a pedestrian was struck on Edison Highway at Mount Vernon Avenue approximately at 10:53 p.m., the California Highway Patrol says. According to the California Highway Patrol, the pedestrian traveled northbound across Edison Highway and into the westbound lanes, outside of a marked crosswalk and into the path of the moving vehicle. The driver was a 46-year-old male driving a 2004 Toyota Scion. The male pedestrian is yet to be identified. The pedestrian suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver did not appear to be under the influence according to the California Highway Patrol, but it is unknown for the pedestrian.
