Toyota bZ4X Touring takes aim at Subaru Outback

The Toyota bZ4X Touring you see here will join the updated bZ4X in a year's time. Essentially an expanded version of the current EV, the Touring is aimed at those who need added space. It offers a vast increase in luggage capacity, along with all the technical upgrades recently introduced on the facelifted bZ4X. The Touring comes with a body that is 140mm longer and 20mm taller than the existing bZ4X's. Boot space expanded by around 33 per cent or 148L to 600 litres. The second row benefits from added headroom, bigger windows and a more open interior layout. Toyota has also fitted new roof rails that can tote up to 70kg while towing capacity is boosted to 1500kg, twice that of the bZ4X. This should therefore appeal more to adventurous types who like to haul stuff. Two versions will be offered, both using the uprated 75kWh battery pack. A single-motor version produces 165kW a WLTP range of up to 557km. Read our review of the bZ4X here. A 280kW dual-motor AWD variant will also be available. It implements X-Mode for slippery conditions. Official WLTP range figures for this variant have yet to emerge, but expect a small drop compared with the single-motor model. Both feature 150kW DC fast charging, and come with an 11-22kW on-board charger for the single and dual-motor options, respectively. In terms of design, the new Touring reminds of the Subaru Trailseeker that will also go on sale later this year. But it features a less rugged look with a sleeker front end characterised by C-shaped daytime running lights. Like the refreshed bZ4X, this arrives with a smarter interior that features a large central infotainment screen and redesigned centre console offering addition oddments storage space. Pricing will be revealed closer to its time of arrival.

Electric wagon: The Toyota bZ4X Touring, known as the bZ Woodland in North America, is expected to be sold in 2026. PHOTO: TOYOTA EUROPE Rugged Toyota EV in the pipeline Toyota has stretched its bZ4 electric vehicle (EV), which is a sport utility vehicle (SUV), to create a slightly rugged-looking wagon. Called the bZ Woodland in North America and bZ4X Touring in Japan and Europe, the EV will go on sale in those places in 2026. At 4,830mm long, the electric Toyota is exactly the same length as the BYD Sealion 7. But its wheelbase is 80mm shorter than the popular Chinese EV, at 2,850mm. A front-motor 165kW version a nd a dual-motor 280kW version have been announced for the European market. Depending on specification, the EV has up to 560km of operating range. The maximum DC charging speed is 150kW. The Japanese automotive giant is stepping up its EV efforts after pushing back for years. Singapore was slated to get the bZ4 earlier on, initially as part of a car-sharing scheme, but that has not come to fruition. In March 2025, the company announced that it will be launching nine EVs in Europe by 2026, of which three are Lexus models. PHOTO: CHARGE+ Singapore electric vehicle-charging service operator Charge+ ha s set up a charging station in the Ayer Keroh area in Melaka state. Located at the Amverton Heritage Resort, the charging station has six charging points: Four are DC and two are AC. The station is said to be a three-minute drive from the North-South Expressway and is accessible by motorists heading in either direction, whether northbound towards Kuala Lumpur or southboard towards Johor Bahru. Along with the opening of the charging station, Charge+ announced it will be working with EV Edaran, a subsidiary of Amverton Group, to develop EV-charging infrastructure beyond Peninsular Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak in East Malaysia. In its press statement on May 13, Charge+ said the partnership is part of the company's ongoing efforts to support Malaysia's goal of establishing 10,000 EV charging stations across the country by 2025. More broadly, Charge+ is establishing a network of chargers across Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Go to for more information. Apple CarPlay turbocharged Improved integration: Apple CarPlay Ultra incorporates vehicle data, presenting them on the driver's instrument display. PHOTO: ASTON MARTIN Aston Martin is the first carmaker to offer Apple CarPlay Ultra, which is the next generation of the phone mirroring technology for the iPhone. Other brands, including Kia and Porsche, were said to be partnering Apple to incorporate the software in their models. The new software integrates the vehicle's instrument cluster to present information such as the speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge, going beyond mirroring the phone's functions. The look of the interface will be customised to suit the requirement of each carmaker. Access to the features can be via on-screen controls, physical buttons or Apple's digital assistant, Siri. A range of Aston Martin models will have Apple CarPlay Ultra ready within the next 12 months, said the British company on May 15. Futuristic Skoda motorcycle Tribute act: The Slavia B Concept is the first of a series of reimagined classics that Skoda plans to release. PHOTO: SKODA Skoda has created the Slavia B Concept, a two-wheeler that pays tribute to the brand's 1899 motorcycle. Notably, Skoda began as a bicycle builder in 1895, then went on to produce motorcycles and cars. The original Slavia B was designed and built under the Laurin & Klement brand, the company that would later become Skoda Auto. The two-wheeler was essentially a bicycle with an engine in the middle of the frame. References to the 1899 motorcycle include the integrated leather tool bag, which is said to be a homage to a Skoda factory rider who finished the 1901 Paris-Berlin race with a Slavia B. The Slavia B Concept is the first in a new series of reimagined Skoda classics. Join ST's Telegram channel and get the latest breaking news delivered to you.

2026 Toyota bZ4X Touring: Stretched electric SUV confirmed for Australia

The new Toyota bZ4X Touring unveiled overnight is a longer, more upright, and more rugged-looking version of the facelifted bZ4X. Toyota Australia confirmed the lengthened version of the bZ4X will be available in Australia during the first half of 2026. It will complement a facelifted version of the bZ4X, which will be arriving in Australian showrooms in the fourth quarter of 2025. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Supplied Credit: CarExpert The bZ4X Touring will be offered with just one drivetrain: a dual-motor all-wheel drive setup with 280kW on tap. Toyota hasn't provided performance figures for the bZ4X Touring — which is being sold in the US as the bZ Woodland — but the almost identical Subaru Trailseeker has the same drivetrain, and has a quoted 0-60mph (0-97km/h) time of 4.4 seconds. It has a 74.7kWh battery pack for a range of up to 418km under the US EPA testing regime. AC charging speeds max out at 11kW, and the car supports DC fast charging up to 150kW. It also comes with battery pre-conditioning to reduce rapid charging times. The increased dimensions and more upright rear end boost boot space to 850L. It also features 211mm of ground clearance, and a more rugged look than the smaller Solterra/bZ twins thanks to its dark grey wheel arch extensions. In the States the Woodland/Touring rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with removable covers, and all-terrain tyres are an optional extra. Supplied Credit: CarExpert Details about the bZ4X Touring's pricing and specifications will be announced closer to its on-sale date. Standard features on the US market models include a 14.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, 360-degree camera system, faux leather seats, radar-guided cruise control, lane keeping assistance, six-speaker audio system and heated front seats. Available items there include nine-speaker JBL sound system, Wi-Fi hotspot, ventilated seats with memory settings, digital rear view mirror, and panoramic glass roof. Supplied Credit: CarExpert Supplied Credit: CarExpert Compared to the Subaru Trailseeker that was unveiled at the 2025 New York motor show in April, the bZ4X has a different front bumper design incorporate C-shaped upper headlights, unique rear diffuser/bash plate, and possibly the smallest Toyota logo integrated into the rear tail-light bar.
