Former Premier League side forced to hold half-time team-talk on BUS due to plumbing issue during Carabao Cup clash

IPSWICH TOWN were unbelievably forced to hold their half-time team-talk on their team BUS due to a plumbing issue during their Carabao Cup clash with Bromley. Championship outfit Ipswich travelled to Hayes Lane to take on League Two side Bromley in the first round of the competition. 6 6 Kieran McKenna 's side had been playing in the Premier League last season, lining up in stadiums like Old Trafford and the Emirates in front of tens of thousands of fans. But the Tractor Boys were slapped in the face by the reality of the football pyramid when they found themselves taking on Bromley in their 1,300-seat Hayes Lane ground. That reality hit even harder when they went in trailing 1-0 at half-time, only to be told they had to hold their team talk on their team bus due to plumbing problems in the changing rooms. Their squad, which featured the likes of Ashley Young and Ben Johnson, had to cram onto the bus just so that they could use the toilet. However, the unusual circumstances didn't seem to immediately bother the travelling team as they came out swinging in the second half. Former West Ham man Johnson netted an equaliser just nine minutes after the break. That was only enough to force penalties as Bromley held firm to keep the game tied at a goal a piece. Incredibly, Bromley seemingly pulled off the impossible as they came out on top in the test of nerves from 12 yards - knocking out their heavyweight opposition on a historic night for the club. 6 6 6 The result will have been a frustration for pop superstar Ed Sheeran, a minority owner of Ipswich, who had made the journey to watch the game from the stands. The first round of the Carabao Cup had already thrown up some madness throughout the evening. Carabao Cup introduces popular new feature on 24 teams' shirts as Arsenal are brutally trolled Tranmere Rovers' tie against Burton Albion was postpone d because of a power cut at Prenton Park. The clash was called off just 26 minutes before kick-off after a Scottish Power outage had left Tranmere unable to operate any tills, floodlights and some of the turnstiles. Elsewhere Bradford City fans were hit by travel delays after a COW shut down the motorway en route to their tie against Blackburn. A photo taken at the scene saw a marked vehicle attempting to guide the cow safely off the M62. However, the animal's wellbeing came at the expense of Bradford fans, who were left pressed for time ahead of a 7.45pm kick-off. Many were left in gridlocked traffic as their movements ground to a halt. 6

Wrexham edge nearer to transfer breakthrough as £7m star's move announced

Ipswich's signing of Chuba Akpom may revive Wrexham's club record £7.5million move for Nathan Broadhead, with more transfers expected by Phil Parkinson before deadline day Wrexham's bid to sign Nathan Broadhead could be back on track after Ipswich Town took action to bolster their attacking options. The Tractor Boys announced the arrival of Ajax striker Chuba Akpom on Sunday as part of an initial season-long loan deal, beating rivals Birmingham City and Middlesbrough to secure his services. ‌ Ipswich will have an obligation to buy the 29-year-old for £7million if they gain promotion to the Premier League this season, according to Sky Sports. The successful swoop for Akpom could provide a boost to Championship new boys Wrexham 's hopes of acquiring Ipswich forward Broadhead. ‌ The Red Dragons, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, were previously reported to have reached an agreement to purchase the Wales international for a club record fee of £7.5m. However, the 27-year-old's move was later placed on hold by Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna amid injuries to other attacking players and transfer interest in Omari Hutchinson from several Premier League sides. ‌ The Northern Irishman admitted last week that Broadhead had expressed a desire to leave, but said he would not sanction his departure unless the Tractor Boys were able to add new recruits up front. He later featured as a second-half substitute during Ipswich's 1-1 draw at Birmingham in their opening Championship fixture on Friday. Broadhead's inclusion in the matchday squad raised doubts over whether his switch to Wrexham would materialise. But McKenna offered a clue about the potential knock-on effect of Akpom's arrival during a post-match interview. He indicated Ipswich had more business to do in the transfer market to be considered contenders for automatic promotion, with players likely moving both in and out of the club before the window closes on September 1. "We've got work to do with the group on the training pitch," McKenna told Sky Sports."It's a short turnaround between Premier League and the Championship. It's still been a short pre-season, so we've got work to do on the training ground. "We've got new players to integrate, and to still get up to full speed. We know we've got some incomings and outgoings that we need to resolve. Our squad needs to be stronger if we want to consider ourselves one of the top teams in the division." ‌ Wrexham kicked off their first Championship campaign in 43 years on Saturday with a 2-1 defeat at Southampton. Phil Parkinson's team took the lead in the first half after Josh Windass converted a penalty, but were beaten in dramatic fashion as Ryan Manning and Jack Stephens grabbed two late goals for the Saints. The former Bolton manager has already signed eight new players this summer after securing promotion from League One in April. However, Parkinson indicated that he was keen to add to his squad further after the loss at St. Mary's. ‌ When asked if he wanted more fresh faces, Parkinson said: "Without a doubt - we're working towards that. We want to keep strengthening the squad so it's competitive enough to give us a chance in this division. We're bringing players in to help the existing players." As well as Broadhead, Wrexham have also been linked with a bid to sign Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson in a permanent deal. Loan moves for Liverpool forward Lewis Koumas and Wolves' right-wing back Pedro Lima are also reported to be in the offing. Sign up to our newsletter! Dara O'Shea delivers perfect description of returning Ireland teammate

Chiedozie Ogbene can play a key role in Ireland's World Cup qualification campaign, according to his Ipswich Town and Boys in Green teammate Dara O'Shea. Tractor Boys skipper O'Shea welcomed the Corkman back from an agonising 10-month injury lay-off as Ogbene completed 68 minutes of their 1-1 Championship opener away to Birmingham City. He delivered an apt description of the 28-year-old and his impact on returning to first-team duties for the first time since he tore his achilles last October - calling Ogbene a 'burst of happiness.' READ MORE: Heimir Hallgrimsson will be thrilled with Troy Parrott's comments as Ireland striker's sensational scoring run continues READ MORE: Ciara Mageean receives support on Camogie's big day at Croke Park The man who was handed the captain's armband during pre-season said: 'Having Chieo back is like a new signing. It's quite remarkable really how he carries himself, I've never known someone to be as positive as he was. 'If you ask anybody a question about him, they'll probably give you the same sort of answer. He's just such a burst of happiness. 'He comes in in the morning, he's dancing, and I'm thinking, fair play to you. For someone to be on the sidelines for so long, be so happy, to have the mindset and the work ethic as well, he's worked so so hard to get himself back in the shape that he's in and you've seen that in the pre-season games. 'He's almost ahead of schedule and shouldn't have played as many minutes, but because he's moving so well and looking so well, he's got that opportunity. 'Credit to him and I'm really looking forward to having to play with him again this season, it's been a long time without him and obviously he'll do well for our country too.' Turning his focus briefly onto international affairs, O'Shea spoke of the importance of Ireland returning to the biggest stages in football. He was a 16-year-old in the West Brom academy when the Boys in Green last appeared in a major tournament - when Martin O'Neill and Roy Keane guided Ireland to the last-16 at Euro 2016 in France. Heimir Hallgrímsson is now in charge and O'Shea said: 'It's World Cup qualification. It's something that as a nation we need to qualify for and get to a major tournament. There's no better time than the next World Cup which will hopefully be amazing. 'There's obviously a few games to go before we meet up with them but definitely one of my goals this season is to try and qualify for that.' Scotland striker George Hirst's late penalty rescues point for Ipswich

Kieran McKenna's side were given a reminder that things will not be easy for them back in the second tier but they were handed a lifeline with minutes remaining as they snatched a point from under the nose of Birmingham. A competitive first half raised the curtain on the new season between two teams who have been tipped for success this campaign. Sammie Szmodics missed the best chance of the half after Kyogo Furuhashi saw a goal ruled out by referee Andrew Kitchen who blew for 17 fouls in the opening period, which contributed to the stop-start nature of the affair. Birmingham won 30 more games than the Tractor Boys last season and they thought that winning habit would resume in the 55th minute thanks to Jay Stansfield, who opened his season account with his 37th goal for the club. But, despite Ipswich failing to register a shot on target in open play, they were able to take a point back to Suffolk thanks to Hirst's penalty in time added on before tempers flared. The hosts thought they had taken the lead in the seventh minute when Furuhashi outjumped Jacob Greaves and lobbed Alex Palmer but referee Kitchen adjudged the striker to have fouled Greaves and blew for a free-kick. Ipswich were allowing the Blues to have possession and they were growing in confidence. Stansfield cut into the middle and slipped in to Furuhashi who dragged wide with the best chance of the opening quarter. Szmodics won the Golden Boot the last time he was in this league, and he should have opened his account in the 25th minute. Goalkeeper Ryan Allsop lazily gifted it straight to Szmodics on the edge of the area, he took his time to set himself but blasted it wide of the target to spare the keeper's blushes. Both teams seemed to switch into their groove and started to show their quality, Stansfield received a pass from Tomoki Iwata but rifled over the bar. It took 39 minutes for the first effort on target of the match to arrive but Keshi Anderson's tame strike from outside the box was easily collected by Palmer and he was soon called into action again to stop Demarai Gray's free-kick in routine fashion. The roof came off St Andrew's 10 minutes after the break. Furuhashi latched onto a ball over the top which Ipswich failed to deal with and he dinked a finish over Palmer and onto the post but Stansfield was waiting to pick up the scraps and blasted high into the net. Ashley Young was among a number of substitutes in the second period, Hirst failed to connect with his delivery as time began to run out. Ipswich were given the chance to equalise after the referee pointed to the spot after a ball was headed onto the hand of Lyndon Dykes inside the area and Hirst confidently sent Allsop the wrong way to snatch a 1-1 draw.
