Traeshon Holden 'moving up the depth chart' with Dallas Cowboys
Former Oregon Ducks wide receiver Traeshon Holden is impressing with the Dallas Cowboys in training camp and during the first preseason game, earning high praise from his head coach. Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had this to say about Holden, who signed with Dallas as an unrestricted free agent after going undrafted in 2025: "He shows up every day," he said. "Literally every day there's been one or two big plays. And when you do that, you get noticed … you get more opportunities." He finished with the biggest statement of all, saying "You'll see him moving up the depth chart." Holden caught two passes for a team-high 42 yards in the Cowboys' preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams. That included a 35-yard reception on a vertical route from quarterback Joe Milton III. Milton, noticing the defense in Cover 2, layered a pass down the sideline to Holden, who caught it on the run before being tackled. After beginning his career with the Alabama Crimson Tide for two seasons, Holden transferred to Oregon for the final two seasons of his college tenure. In 26 games for the Ducks, Holden caught 83 passes for 1,170 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was the team's second-leading receiver in 2024. He finished his career with a monster seven-reception, 116-yard, two-touchdown performance in the Rose Bowl despite Oregon's 41-21 loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Now carrying over that momentum to the pros, Holden, straight from his head coaches words, is moving up the depth chart in Dallas. If he continues to excel, he'll find himself in position to be on the Cowboys' final roster -- a major feat for an undrafted prospect. Traeshon Holden, Noah Sewell shine in Week 1 of NFL preseason for Oregon Ducks
We are still a few weeks away from football games that actually matter when it comes to season standings, but fans got a nice supply of action over the weekend in the NFL with the first week of the preseason taking place. We got 16 games from Thursday to Sunday, offering a look at the new faces in new places, and scratching the football itch for many eager fans. In Oregon Ducks circles, it was a great week, with many former players taking the field and having standout performances on the gridiron. Some of those performances came from established guys on their roster, like Josh Conerly with the Washington Commanders or Troy Franklin with the Denver Broncos. Others, like Chicago Bears' Noah Sewell or Dallas Cowboys' Traeshon Holden, did a great job of vying for a roster spot with their production over the weekend. Whether it was an established veteran who got minimal reps or a young gun fighting for a spot on the 53-man roster, the former Ducks provided a lot to look at this weekend. Here's a glance at some of the standout performances. WR Traeshon Holden — Dallas Cowboys Traeshon Holden only had two targets during the game against Los Angeles, but he caught both of them for a team-high 42 yards. Afterward, Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had some high praise for the UDFA, saying that he is moving up the depth chart this fall. LB Noah Sewell — Chicago Bears Noah Sewell had a breakout day, with six tackles and one tackle for loss against the Dolphins, including this one on 4th and goal from the 1-yard line. After struggling in his first two seasons, Sewell appears to be thriving under new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen, whose 4-3 defense fits Sewell. OT Josh Conerly Jr. — Washington Commanders In his first NFL action, Conerly made good on his first-round selection with a solid day against the New England Patriots at the RT position. He had only 14 pass-blocking snaps, but allowed just one pressure, and had a 77.7 run-blocking grade, according to Pro Football Focus. LB Troy Dye — Los Angeles Chargers Troy Dye only had one tackle on the day, but it was a big one, stopping the Saints on 4th and goal from the 1-yard line with a crushing tackle. Dye is someone who is likely already solidified on the 53-man roster, but can establish himself as a potential starter with plays like this. DL Jamaree Caldwell — Los Angeles Chargers Jamaree Caldwell had himself a day in the Hall of Fame game against the Detroit Lions, getting his first NFL sack to go along with four tackles. He has his place on the 53-man roster cemented, but could really contend for a starting spot on the DL if he keeps this up. Assessing Traeshon Holden's performance at the 2024 NFL Combine
Assessing Traeshon Holden's performance at the 2024 NFL Combine The 2025 NFL Combine continued for the Oregon Ducks on Saturday, with senior wide receiver Traeshon Holden hitting the field for some drills and getting his measurables taken. While other Ducks like Derrick Harmon and Terrance Ferguson have solidified — and potentially improved — their draft stock this weekend in Indianapolis, Holden had a relatively average week at the combine. His scores weren't bad by any means, but he didn't jump off the page. gives Holden a prospect grade of 5.93 (on an eight-point scale), which, according to the rankings, means he will be "an average backup or special teamer." Here's a look at all of Holden's numbers from the day: Measurables Height: 6-foot-2 Weight: 205 pounds Hand Size: 9 7/8 inches Arm Length: 31 5/8 inches 40-yard Dash Time: 4.57 seconds Rank at Position: 15th of 19 Players Traeshon Holden's 40-yard dash time was nothing spectacular, but he isn't a player who is going to keel you with speed. Rather, he will excel with route running and physicality at the next level, so a 4.57 is a perfectly acceptable time. The fastest time was Texas' Matthew Golden at 4.30. 10-Yard Split Official Split Time: 1.54 seconds Rank at Position: 28th of 39 Players Vertical Jump Official Measurement: 32.0" Rank at Position: 32nd of 37 players Broad Jump Official Measurement: 10'3" Rank at Position: 20th of 33 players
