A stunt driver with three children and their spouse inside the car had their vehicle impounded on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025. (OPS Traffic Escort & Enforcement Unit/X) An out-of-province driver with their spouse and three children in the car had their vehicle impounded for going at dangerously high speeds on Highway 417 in Ottawa. The Ottawa police's traffic escort and enforcement unit says in a post on X that officers spotted the vehicle going 165 km/h near Boundary Road on Sunday. The speed limit in the area is 110 km/h. 'Driving with your spouse and 3 children demands extra care & attention (for obvious reasons),' police said. On Saturday, the traffic unit also caught a driver going 136 km/h on Highway 174 near Trim Road. The speed limit in the area is 80 km/h and is in a construction zone. Police say traffic unit officers continue to focus on catching aggressive drivers and speeders around the city. In Ontario, a stunt driving charge comes with an immediate 30-day licence suspension and 14-day vehicle impound. Convictions can result in a minimum $2,000 fine, an additional one-year licence suspension, six demerit points and a jail term of up to six months.

Windsor police crack down on rolling stops

The Windsor Police Service is reminding drivers to come to a full stop at a red light or stop sign after officers pulled over multiple vehicles in a short time frame. Officers with the Windsor Police Traffic Enforcement Unit stopped eight drivers in just three hours Monday for failing to come to a complete stop. A social media post by the service said, 'Rolling through a right turn at a red light or stop sign isn't just illegal-it's dangerous.' Const. Bianca Jackson says stopping eight drivers in three hours is a lot. 'In actuality, around the city, I'm sure it happens far, far more than we're able to catch people at these lights,' she said. 'I'm sure people see this on a regular basis. It's unfortunate because you're supposed to come to a complete stop at every red light. Not only for your safety but for the safety of others.' Jackson says it's important to come to a full stop not just for drivers around you but also pedestrians who may try to cross the street at the last minute. 'We see this happen at many intersections, especially those where the opposite light has an advanced turning green light. People assume that the other ongoing traffic is stopping and I can roll through this red light. That's not the case, and for many people now, they're seeing that hefty, hefty fine,' she says. Drivers could face a variety of charges and some hefty fines for failing to come to a full stop. Penalties Failing to stop at a red light: Fine up to $325 + 3 demerit points Failing to stop at a stop sign: Fine up to $110 + 3 demerit points Careless driving: Fine up to $490 + 6 demerit points — Rusty Thomson/AM800 News

How Nevada State police keep traffic flowing at EDC

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) is one of the Las Vegas valley's biggest and brightest events. Every year law enforcement works together to keep the fun going as safely and smoothly as possible. Nevada State Police Highway Patrol (NHP) gave 8 News Now a behind-the-scenes look at traffic enforcement. NHP expects 185,000 people each night at this year's EDC. 'This event is so large, that it is all hands on deck,' Nevada State Police Trooper Ashlee Wellman said. 'We treat it just like, as if it was like New Year's Eve. It is mandatory for all our officers.' Each night of the festival is comprised of three shifts, each of which are around 11 hours. Each day, the Las Vegas Motor Speedway sees around 150 troopers and officers. 'We work together with one mission and one goal, and that's to get everybody here to have a good time safely and get them back home safely, and it just gets better and better every year,' Wellman said. Regarding traffic safety, Wellman said one of the most common causes of traffic jams is people stopping and asking for directions, leading to almost everyone behind the lost driver slowing down or stopping entirely. Sometimes, it's not even a driver that interrupts the flow — it's people walking. 'You cannot walk on the side of the highway,' Wellman said. 'You're generating a call for service, which takes us from our post, or we have to pull someone from town to then get to you. It's a whole thing where we're trying to get everyone in and quickly, and it's yeah, it's a whole domino effect.' When the festival ends in the morning, troopers make sure departing traffic can get home safely. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
