Dubai: New access from MBZ Road to Al Warqa to cut travel time to 3.5 minutes

A new entry and exit point to Al Warqa area from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is set to open next week, which will reduce travel time from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes. The new additions will increase road capacity by 5,000 vehicles per hour. Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced the completion of the entry and exit points on Thursday, May 29. The RTA had announced the project in October 2024. The new entry and exit points will slash travel time by a staggering 80%. The distance of key trips will also be cut significantly, from to only 1.5km. See the map below: Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels. Meanwhile, the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project aimed at easing congestion and reducing travel time between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road is nearing completion. The project, which is being developed at a cost of Dh332 million, will include an 800-metre tunnel with four lanes in each direction. Traffic improvement works The RTA has also completed traffic improvement works on Street 13 in Al Warqa 1, which will particularly benefit residents and schoolgoers. These upgrades are part of a broader internal road development initiative spanning approximately 8km, designed to streamline traffic flow. Upgrades are also underway in Al Warqa 3 and 4, where internal roadworks include paving, pedestrian walkways, parking spaces, and more than 23km of cycling tracks aimed at encouraging alternative modes of transport. In Al Warqa 1, the next phase will see the conversion of roundabouts into signalised intersections equipped with smart traffic lights. This change is projected to boost traffic efficiency by up to 30%, with completion expected by the end of the year. New parking spaces RTA has already implemented enhancements around key educational institutions in Al Warqa 4, including the School of Research Science and GEMS Royal Dubai School. These include 150 new parking spaces and improved access points, which have reduced congestion in school zones by an estimated 35% to 50%. Further developments have been completed to support the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment project in Al Warqa 4, which features 136 new residential villas. Works included pedestrian and vehicle access infrastructure, pavements, and an integrated lighting system. A dedicated 7.4km cycling track was also constructed to promote recreational and practical cycling.
