THOOTHUKUDI: A 22-year-old dropout student was arrested by the Kovilpatti West police for allegedly assaulting a physical education teacher of a government arts and science college in Kovilpatti on Monday. The injured lecturer was identified as K Boopathy Rajan (37), and the suspect was identified as V Manoj Kumar of Koosalipatti. According to sources, Manoj, who dropped out of the college a few months ago, had demanded a Transfer Certificate (TC) from the college principal (in charge), Santhanamari, and he had allegedly been denied, citing enormous fees due. Gadwal: District Collector B.M. Santosh announced that every student completing training at the newly established Advanced Technology Centres (ATCs) will be assured of employment opportunities. Chairing a meeting at the Collectorate's video conference hall on Thursday, the Collector explained that the Telangana Government has transformed traditional ITIs into modern technology hubs by setting up ATCs, equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, world-class laboratories, and Industry 4.0-standard machinery. The district has a total of 172 seats this year, and officials have been directed to complete admissions within a week. Each mandal must ensure the enrolment of at least 15 students, he said. Panchayat Secretaries have been instructed to create awareness at the village level. The District Education Officer will compile and submit a list of 10th-grade pass-outs, while school dropouts from Intermediate and even ITI graduates are also encouraged to join the courses for enhanced job prospects. The Collector revealed that six specialised courses are currently available at ATCs, all promising secure employment for trainees. Hostel-based SC, ST, BC, and Minority students will also be provided with free mid-day meals. There is no admission fee, and applications can be submitted online via the Telangana ITI admissions portal by providing SSC/Transfer Certificate and Aadhaar details. UP Board removes SR, TC upload requirement for registration of students

Prayagraj: In a welcome move for schools and educators, the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Board (UP Board) withdrew the mandatory requirement of uploading photos of the Scholar Register (SR) and Transfer Certificate (TC) during the advance registration process for Class 9 and Class 11 students. This decision follows persistent demands by school managements and teacher associations who raised concerns about the security of confidential documents. Earlier this year, the UP Board introduced new guidelines for advance registration of students who will appear in the 2027 high school and intermediate board examinations. For the first time, schools were asked to upload a permanent education number (PEN) along with images of either the SR or TC. While the Board already dropped the requirement of PEN on July 15, the SR/TC photo upload clause remained active until now. Teachers and school administrators argued that the process of uploading sensitive documents was risky, especially since most school principals use private cybercafes for online registration. They pointed out that SR and TC documents are official and confidential, and taking them outside the school premises could pose serious security threats. Acknowledging these concerns, the UP Board has now removed the photo upload option from its registration portal. Currently, advance registration for the 2025-26 academic session and exam form submission for Classes 10 and 12 is ongoing in more than 28,000 UP Board-affiliated schools. The deadline for submission is August 5. However, due to ongoing flood conditions in Prayagraj and several other districts, an extension of the deadline is considered likely. In previous years, similar weather disruptions led the Board to extend key dates.
