Man Utd Women head of recruitment Harvey Bussell set to join Utah Royals
Manchester United Women head of player recruitment Harvey Bussell is set to join National Women's Soccer League side Utah Royals. Bussell joined United in October 2022 from Millwall, where he was head of recruitment, as a talent scout. Bussell was named head of player recruitment on United's women's side in June 2023. Advertisement He is set to leave his role at United at the end of this summer transfer window and take up the same position with bottom-of-the-table Utah Royals. This summer, United have made just one signing in 27-year-old Sweden midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme. Under Bussell, United signed Brazil forward Geyse, Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, 2023 World Cup winner Irene Guerrero, England defender Gabby George, USWNT goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, Netherlands defender Dominique Janssen, France forward Melvine Malard, Canada international Simi Awujo and Wales defender Gemma Evans. Of those recruitments, three have since departed (Geyse, Guerrero and Evans), amongst other high-profile exits including former club captain Katie Zelem, former England goalkeeper Mary Earps and Spain forward Lucia Garcia. United finished third in the Women's Super League (WSL) last season and are set to compete in the Women's Champions League qualification stages next month. Since the start of this year, Bussell has been working closely with director of football Jason Wilcox in putting a data team in place. Bussell will become the fourth backroom staff departure for United this summer. Assistant Charlotte Healy has taken over as head coach of Bristol City, while goalkeeping coach Ian Willcock departed to take up the corresponding position with the Canada Women's national team, ending nearly seven years with the club. Assistant coach Lawrence Shamieh is set to join Tottenham Hotspur in a reunion with new head coach Martin Ho. Utah sits bottom of the NWSL after 15 matches. They recently sold USWNT striker Ally Sentnor to the Kansas City Current for a record-breaking intra-league transfer fee of $600,000. Newcastle Manager Blames PSR for Missing Out On Key Targets
Eddie Howe has admitted that Newcastle United's transfer plans are being 'controlled' by the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR), leaving the club unable to financially compete for top targets this summer. Newcastle have endured a frustrating window, missing out on nearly ten players according to all reports that have popped up at some points throughout the summer, most glaringly Benjamin Sesko, who chose Manchester United despite a higher bid from St James' Park at the last minute. Hugo Ekitike, James Trafford, and Joao Pedro also slipped away, with most of the players Newcastle failed to land joining Premier League rivals, adding fuel to a fire already burning. The situation is compounded by uncertainty around Alexander Isak, who is training away from the squad after expressing his desire to join Liverpool. The Magpies rejected a £110 million offer from the champions but are unwilling to sanction his sale until a replacement is secured. 'We're controlled by PSR,' Howe said after Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid. 'That's still limiting what we can do, and that's the reality. We're not the highest payers in the league, far from it, and that is sometimes reflected in the choices players make.' Howe stressed that Newcastle remains a 'special place to be' but acknowledged that financial considerations often sway player decisions. The manager also confirmed the obvious in publicly stating—just in case PIF went deaf—that the club still needs a new striker, if only a backup, following Callum Wilson's departure, with Anthony Gordon's ankle injury adding to the urgency just a week until the new season gets rolling.

Everton Step Up Pursuit of Southampton Winger in Transfer Push
Everton's Transfer Frustrations and Ambitions Everton's summer window is shaping into one of determination and negotiation, yet also one that is testing the patience of the club's hierarchy and fanbase. According to The Sunday Times, and reported by Sky Sports, the Toffees remain 'frustrated' in their attempts to secure Southampton winger Tyler Dibling, with three bids already tabled. 'The Toffees have now made three separate bids for the Southampton winger but there remains, says the Sunday Times, a 'huge discrepancy' between what Everton are offering and Southampton are demanding.' This pursuit underlines David Moyes' clear vision for the club's attacking rebuild. Dibling, a player tipped for a bright future, fits the mould of a young, energetic wide man who can bring both creativity and pressing intensity. However, Southampton's stance signals they are in no rush to sell, especially to a fellow English club, and they believe their valuation reflects his potential. Photo: IMAGO Renewed Focus on Grealish Loan Possibility While talks over Dibling continue, Everton's recruitment strategy is not confined to one target. Sky Sports report that the club has 'strengthened' its interest in Manchester City's Jack Grealish. The deal, however, is unlikely to be straightforward. The Sunday Times suggests a £12 million cost if Everton cover the forward's wages during a proposed season-long loan. For a player of Grealish's calibre, proven both in the Premier League and at international level, such a figure may be considered a worthwhile gamble, particularly if Moyes' side aim to add both flair and proven experience. Yet the financial constraints Everton face, under continued Premier League monitoring, mean the deal would have to be meticulously structured. Photo IMAGO Balancing Long-Term Planning with Immediate Impact The double-pronged approach to these negotiations reveals a broader Everton strategy. Dibling represents a long-term investment, someone who could grow with the team and deliver over multiple seasons. Grealish offers the instant star quality and ability to unlock defences that could make the difference in tight matches. Supporters will no doubt debate whether the club should prioritise youthful potential or immediate attacking firepower. Moyes will be aware that the Premier League offers little patience for slow builds, yet financial missteps could weigh heavily on the club's future. Negotiations That Could Define Everton's Season Everton's recruitment decisions in the coming weeks may define the tone of their campaign. If they can bridge the 'huge discrepancy' in valuation for Dibling, it could be a coup that energises the fanbase and strengthens the side's future prospects. If they find a way to bring Grealish to Goodison Park, even temporarily, it could add the kind of attacking dynamism supporters have long craved. Photo IMAGO Sky Sports' report paints a picture of a club willing to act, but also one walking a tightrope between ambition and realism. Success in either deal could help set the tone for a stronger, more creative Everton in the 2025-26 season. Our View – EPL Index Analysis For Everton fans, this report will stir mixed feelings. On one hand, the club is clearly showing ambition by targeting both a talented young winger like Dibling and an established star such as Grealish. On the other, there is a familiar worry about whether negotiations will drag on too long, leaving the squad short when the season starts. Dibling feels like a player who could become a fan favourite if given the right development and opportunities. Supporters have seen enough in recent years to know that backing youth can pay off, especially when they bring energy and fearlessness to the pitch. However, Southampton's hard stance is a reminder that talented English players come at a premium. As for Grealish, his potential arrival is a mouth-watering prospect, yet the financial outlay is a big question mark. Fans will want reassurance that such a deal does not compromise other positions in need of reinforcement. Ultimately, the feeling among many in the Gwladys Street end will be that both moves, if pulled off, could signal a real statement of intent. Yet, until something is signed, the frustration will linger, and the call for swift, decisive action will grow louder.

Journalist: Three Liverpool Stars Could Still Leave This Summer
Liverpool's Transfer Window: Business Far From Done Liverpool's summer rebuild under Arne Slot has been methodical, ambitious and quietly ruthless. Fresh from lifting the Premier League trophy in his debut season, Slot's second campaign in charge looks set to feature a squad reshaped for another title push. The recent insights from Anfield Index, where Lewis Steele spoke to Dave Davis, paint a picture of a club operating with surgical precision in the market, underpinned by a significant windfall from player sales. While the rumour mill spins, Liverpool's strategy appears well-defined. Pushing Hard for Isak and Guehi Top of the agenda is Alexander Isak. The Newcastle United forward has emerged as Liverpool's primary target to bolster their attacking options. Isak, with his pace, link-up play and clinical finishing, fits Slot's system perfectly. Although prising him away from St James' Park will not be cheap, the club seems determined. At the back, Marc Guehi remains the standout centre-back target. With just one year left on his Crystal Palace contract, there is a growing sense that a deal could be done if Liverpool decide to act decisively. His composure on the ball and ability to play out from the back are likely key attributes that have caught the attention of Liverpool's recruitment team. Steele confirmed as much, stating, 'I think they will definitely sign a forward and then they will do their best to sign a centre-back before the end of the window.' £200m Raised in Sales Fuelling Moves There is understandable curiosity about how Liverpool are financing these bold moves. Steele addressed this directly: 'A lot of people will be saying how can Liverpool afford all of this? But in terms of outgoings, Liverpool have brought in close to £200m in player sales.' That figure is telling. It reflects a wider strategy that is not simply about splashing cash but balancing ambition with sustainability. These funds have largely come from high-profile exits, with a handful of further departures expected. Who Could Still Leave? Several familiar faces could be nearing the exit door. 'We've already seen Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, Tyler Morton, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Caoimhin Kelleher and Jarell Quansah,' said Steele, in reference to potential or confirmed exits. He added, 'Then you look at the likes of Harvey Elliott, Ben Doak and Kostas Tsimikas who could all still leave.' Each name represents either an opportunity for reinvestment or the clearing of space in a tightly managed wage structure. Liverpool are clearly not clinging to sentiment, instead prioritising what is required for success in the Slot era. Focused and Forward-Thinking Approach The key takeaway from Steele's conversation with Anfield Index is that Liverpool are not operating in panic mode. There is a clear plan, executed with pragmatism and confidence. The club understands the pressures of maintaining momentum after a title-winning campaign, and the moves being made suggest that complacency will not be tolerated. Slot, now fully settled into life at Anfield, is building a team that can not only defend the title but also evolve stylistically. Adding Isak and Guehi would enhance both ends of the pitch, while trimming the squad allows for focus, cohesion and opportunity for others. With weeks still remaining in the window, expect movement. Liverpool have already done plenty, but they are not done yet.

It's the first ever North London Derby in the fixture's 138-year history to take place outside of the UK, with Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur coming to blows in the Kai Tak Stadium, Hong Kong this afternoon - 12.30pm BST kick off! As seems to be custom with these two sides, they head into the pre-season fixture in polarising positions, with Arsenal well set under the six-year reign of Mikel Arteta and boasting a plethora of new signings to examine, whilst Spurs face their first properly-scrutinised test under new manager, Thomas Frank. Europa League Champions Spurs do have some signings to experiment with - Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel have arrived for a combined £85m - but the onus is on the team's, and specifically the attack's coherence today. Frank has made it clear that defence has been his first priority since taking over six weeks ago, but the hangover of Ange Postecoglou's departure has seemed apparent in their pre-season so far. They have laboured to a 2-0 win against Reading, and 2-2 and 0-0 draws against Wycombe and Luton respectively. Needless to say that this attacking output needs to improve for their UEFA Super League Final against PSG in two weeks' time. Arsenal, meanwhile, have enjoyed a more successful pre-season against more esteemed opposition. They beat Watford 2-0 in a match behind closed doors, before beating AC Milan 1-0 and Newcastle 3-2 out in Singapore. Whilst their busy transfer activity has dominated headlines, it's the emergence of 15-year-old Max Dowman that will have pleased Mikel Arteta most on tour. He's looked to the manner born so far, with his confidence and ability in taking players on readily apparent - it was his surge into the box in the dying embers of last Sunday's match against Newcastle that won Arsenal the decisive penalty. Given Dowman is ineligible for Premier League football until his 16th Birthday on December 31st, we can expect another look at him today. There should be some familiarity elsewhere: Thomas Frank told media this week that despite it being a pre-season fixture, the match is 'no friendly', stay tuned to see just how committed both sides are to that mantra.
