New mapping reveals D.C. region's growing vulnerability to flood risk
Large swaths of the Washington region, including many of its roadways, rail lines and bus stops, are more vulnerable to flooding than was previously known, according to a new analysis and flood mapping from the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board.
In hopes of better understanding the area's flood risk, the board, which operates under the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, created two flood maps of the region, one using existing data from the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) and another with data from an independent flood modeler, Fathom.
