How Atlanta Is Celebrating 404 Day
This post has been updated. In Atlanta, 404 is more than just an area code. April 4th — or 404 Day (or 'fo-oh-fo') — is an annual celebration of all things unique to Atlanta. Since 2020, Official 404 Day with Atlanta Influences Everything and has been producing programming around the holiday that honors and recognizes Black Atlanta's global influence. In past years, the holiday has been marked by musical performances, community givebacks and scholarships for HBCUs, and limited-edition merchandise from homegrown brands. Not to mention, you might catch a glimpse of a celebrity or two throughout the day! 'When you think of Atlanta, you think of Black everything,' said Bem Joiner, co-founder of Atlanta Influences Everything. '404 Day is a day where we celebrate what it means to be Black in Atlanta every day.' This year, Atlanta Influences Everything, Trap Music Museum, Finish First, and other local organizations to celebrate our city at the official 404 Day events starting Thursday, April 3. 'Globally, Atlanta culture is important, and it has been for a long time,' said Tory Edwards, co-founder of Atlanta Influences Everything. 'For decades, Atlanta has been the first when it comes to celebrating Black culture, and we use 404 Day to recognize that.' So, if you are outside and ready to put on for the city, here are the events you can check out this 404 Day holiday season! And if you happen to see us, be sure to holla! Pull those gowns and tuxes out the closet for an evening of elegance that supports a good cause — supporting Atlanta students! There will be food, drinks, and entertainment. All proceeds will go toward the 404 Fund Scholarship, and all ticket purchases are tax deductible. When: Thursday, April 3, 7-10 p.m. Where: Fox Theatre, 660 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta Cost: $104.04 RSVP. Now, it isn't Atlanta unless there is a party on someone's block! Be sure to come out to celebrate the visionaries and innovators who are helping to shape the city's Black tech ecosystem. Culture, community, perhaps meeting your future business partner — we couldn't think of a better place to be! When: Friday, April 4, 2-8 p.m. Where: The Interlock; 1115 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta Cost: Free. RSVP. It's a vibe! College Park's native son is shutting down the holiday with a performance of his biggest hits and most beloved deep cuts. You won't want to miss a night of music, dancing, and shouting '2 Chainz!' at the top of your lungs. Note: You have to be at least 21 years of age to attend this afterparty. When: Friday, April 4, 8 p.m-midnight Where: The Stave Room; 199 Armour Drive, Atlanta Cost: Free. RSVP. Atlanta is hitting the streets! Whether you're a Grady baby or you've adopted the A as your home, all are welcome in this celebration of our city that will include marching bands, floats, and most of all, fun! When: Saturday, April 5, 10 a.m – 12 p.m. Where: Peachtree Street — from Ralph McGill Blvd. to Marietta Street, Atlanta Cost: Free. Down for a good ol' fashioned competition? We got you covered. Be sure to check out this event at Georgia State University in Summerhill. Not to mention, all proceeds will be donated to a local Atlanta charity. Celebrate 404 Day in Atlanta with these events
404 Day has arrived, and there's no shortage of celebrations happening around the city this weekend. Why it matters: 404 Day, which is named after the month and day that coincide with Atlanta's OG area code, celebrates the cultural hub of the Deep South. And y'all know there's nothing ATLiens like to do more than put our hometown pride on blast. 404 Day - Piedmont Park (Friday) From noon to 9pm, visitors can expect a DJ lineup that's "curated with meticulous care to deliver an unparalleled musical experience," according to the 404 Day website. You'll hear sounds from electronic dance artists, indie acts and everything in between. The free festival will include art and food and drink vendors. Sine Die 404 Day Block Party (Friday) Before you head to the state capitol to watch the last day of the legislative session, check out this gathering at Liberty Plaza where you'll be treated to music, food and family-friendly games. The fun begins at 1pm. Old Atlanta MegaMix Listening Party (Friday) Old heads, assemble: The Trap Music Museum has a night of nostalgia for you. The party, which starts at 8pm Friday, will give you a chance to hear the soundtrack to the "Bo Legs: Marvin Arrington, Sr., An Atlanta Story" documentary. Some of the artists on the soundtrack include Dungeon Family, Young Dro, Raheem the Dream, BlackOwned C-Bone and Pastor Troy. Official 404 Day After Party (Friday) 2Chainz will be at The Stave Room for a performance at 8pm Friday organized by the 404 Collective (Atlanta Influences Everything, ButterATL, Finish First, Trap Music Museum, etc.) 404 Day Parade (Saturday) What's a celebration without a parade? New this year, the inaugural procession steps off at 10am Saturday and runs along Peachtree Street from Ralph McGill Boulevard to Marietta Street. Celebrity softball game (Sunday)
