Goodbye Dresses – These Milkmaid Tops Couldn't Be More Perfect For Summer 2025

Last year, milkmaid dresses - essentially, a wafty piece of material that would very much suit a wildflower meadow (think: the best Dôen dresses) - almost overtook the floral dress as summer's most popular throw-on-and-go item. This hot-weather season's update, however, is slightly less immersive, with a top version of the once-ubiquitous dress that utilises its boho credentials without looking as though you've lost your milking stool. Nicole Stark ©@nicolekimberleystark You can't escape the rise of milkmaid tops. As well as Dôen, whose entire 'tops' category right now is practically an ode to being an off-duty milkmaid (Kaia Gerber just wore its Traveler Top), high street brands have discovered the blouse in a big way ahead of summer (H&M, Nobody's Child, you name it). It's not hard to see the appeal. Even if you're not an outdoorsy person, and would rather not get up close and personal with anything of a bovine persuasion, the milkmaid top is tempting. Usually white and made of cotton with details along the lines of lace inserts, bow-tied closures, sheer panels and a general sense of lightness that makes them suitable for sultry temperatures (if only!), it's a top that goes hand in glove with summer occasions like meeting a friend after work for a park date (wine included). Kaia Gerber in Dôen's Traveler Top The trick is perhaps not going head-to-toe milkmaid, which is hard to avoid with the dress version. A milkmaid top, on the other hand, can be paired with a variety of lo-fi bottoms to balance out, or at least temper, its cottagecore leanings, something like knee-length denim shorts, a cargo skirt or even tracksuit bottoms. Lucy Williams ©@lucywilliams02 Of course, if you're fond of the look (and dipped your toe into the milkmaid dress trend last time round), no one's stopping you from teaming your milkmaid top with a lace skirt, bloomers or, following in the very stylish footsteps of Nicole Stark, a similarly wafty skirt. 1. Taylor Swift Floral Dôen Set Is the Perf Date Night Outfit

Taylor Swift has been a litttle busy as of late dealing with Blake Lively lawsuit drama, working on her (alleged) new album, and buying back the masters for all six of her records—for a casual $360 million, I might add. But, somehow, she's still squeezed in some time for date nights with Travis Kelce and a gossip sesh with her besties. Taylor stepped out in Palm Beach early last week in a poppy print matching set from Dôen, before traveling back to New York for a Via Carota dinner with Dakota Johnson. Keeping with the week's theme, she opted for a black floral dress from the same Cali Cool vintage-inspired label. While Taylor's Benoit dress sold out in her Noir Wild Rise pattern (and is nearly out of stock in every other version, too), the Marcie Skirt and matching Traveler Top are somehow still in stock. So, let's talk about it. The two-piece set is made from a lightweight blend of organic cotton and viscose for a breezy and easy-to-wear fabric (perf for Taylor's Florida evening) and features Dôen's springy '30s-inspired Poppy Field print. The skirt has a high-waist design and maxi silhouette that hits just at the ankle and an invisible side zipper, which makes it easy to slip in (or out!) of. The top is crafted from the same fabric and has the identical Poppy Field print for a cohesive look. It has the perfect crop and scoop neckline with a ribbon tie and mother-of-pearl buttons down the front. Plus, it has scalloped eyelets and ladder trim at the neckline, sleeve openings, and hemline for a sweet finish. I'm hardly surprised Taylor went with two Dôen looks in one week. She's constantly reaching for the brand. In fact, she even wore a tank from the label for her first-ever Kansas City Chiefs game. But, while the poppy print set isn't quite as expensive as the head-to-toe Gucci look she wore for dinner with Selena Gomez, it's still expensy. The good news is that Gap dropped a Dôen collab that's a lil more in our price range. Next time you're getting dressed just think, 'What Would Taylor Wear?' Megan Schaltegger is an NYC-based writer. She loves strong coffee, eating her way through the Manhattan food scene, and her dog, Murray. She promises not to talk about herself in third person IRL.

Taylor Swift Put a Romantic Twist on Spring Florals for Her Date With Travis Kelce

Taylor Swift enjoyed a dinner date with Travis Kelce in West Palm Beach, Florida, over Memorial Day weekend. And for the occasion, the singer put a romantic twist on a classic spring trend: florals. Swift opted for a two-piece set from Dôen, featuring a dainty, '30s-inspired poppy print. She wore the brand's Traveler Top (an apt name, as Swift has been traveling throughout her break from the spotlight) with its matching Marcie Skirt. Neither piece has sold out... yet: Swift is a longtime fan of two-piece sets, and they were a signature part of her style during her 1989 era. (She often wore them while leaving the gym.) In late May 2023, she made headlines for bringing the look back when she wore a white eyelet bustier and matching skirt from Ralph Lauren in New York City. Swift has spent the last few months out of the public eye. On April 23, a source gave Entertainment Tonight an update on what she's been up to: 'She and Travis have been laying low, traveling, and enjoying some time off and quiet time together.' Last week, WNBA player Caitlin Clark, who knows both Swift and Kelce, echoed the sentiment in an interview. '[They're] in vacation mode right now,' Clark said. 'So I hope they enjoy a nice little break out of the spotlight.' Swift has still been leaving hints about what's next for her career: the release of Reputation (Taylor's Version). She wore a snake necklace at March's iHeartRadio Music Awards, then released the first snippet of 'Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)' on The Handmaid's Tale last week. The track was the lead single of the original album, which was released in November 2017.
