Raiders' Geno Smith wildly compares Tre Tucker to legendary receiver

The post Raiders' Geno Smith wildly compares Tre Tucker to legendary receiver appeared first on ClutchPoints. Geno Smith is already high on his new group of receivers with the Las Vegas Raiders. Although no longer throwing to DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, Smith believes he gets to work with the second coming of Santana Moss in the form of third-year wideout Tre Tucker. Tucker, who was third on the team with 539 receiving yards in 2024, has apparently impressed Smith in training camp. Smith called his new receiver a 'spitting image of Santana Moss,' according to Underdog NFL on X, formerly Twitter. There are a lot of factors that go into comparing a receiver with 870 career receiving yards to a former All-Pro like Moss that raised eyebrows. However, many forget that Moss did not get off to the best start to his career, accumulating just 470 receiving yards in his first two seasons. Perhaps Tucker has a chance to live up to Smith's lofty expectations of him with a breakout 2025 campaign. The Raiders return two 1,000-yard receivers from the 2024 season: Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers. Smith, however, seems to have the strongest connection with Tucker. There is no reason to believe that Tucker will suddenly emerge as the team's top wideout, but the two have nonetheless appeared to form a bond over the offseason. Raiders' receivers seek improved numbers in 2025 The Raiders return their top-three leading receivers from the 2024 season — Brock Bowers, Jakobi Meyers and Tre Tucker — and expect an even bigger year in 2025. Their acquisition of Geno Smith, whom they acquired in an offseason trade with the Seattle Seahawks, is the biggest factor in the team's confidence. Since his re-emergence with the Seahawks in 2022, Smith has established himself as a starter in the NFL. Despite his rocky up-and-down year in 2024, he is coming off a career-high 4,320-yard season. His presence under center is a substantial upgrade from the horrid play Las Vegas dealt with between Gardner Minshew II, Aidan O'Connell and Desmond Ridder. The Raiders also made notable upgrades to their receiving room in the 2025 NFL Draft. Following a quiet free-agency period, Las Vegas added intriguing rookie prospect Jack Bech and Dont'e Thornton. Both young wideouts are expected to have an immediate role in Pete Carroll's offense. Raiders Insider Provides Update On Second-Round Pick's Contract Situation

Raiders Insider Provides Update On Second-Round Pick's Contract Situation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Las Vegas Raiders have completely retooled their wide receiver room ahead of the 2025 NFL season. After trading Davante Adams to the New York Jets last year, the team has needed another wideout to step up alongside Jakobi Meyers. Advertisement 2023 third-rounder Tre Tucker is the obvious candidate, but the team still utilized three picks on wide receivers in this year's draft. They took TCU's Jack Bech in the second round, Tennessee's Dont'e Thornton in the fourth round, and Montana State's Tommy Mellott in the sixth round. While both Thornton and Mellott have signed, however, Bech is yet to put pen to paper for the Silver and Black. Las Vegas Raiders WR Jack Bech (18).Andrew Dieb-Imagn Images With mandatory minicamp approaching on June 10, Bech will not be allowed to participate if he is not under contract. The Las Vegas Review-Journal's Vincent Bonsignore recently provided an update about his contract situation and if there is any reason to be concerned. Advertisement "No (there is no concern about Bech's contract)," Bonsignore wrote. "Bech has been a full participant during OTAs. His contract will get sorted out." This is music to the ears of Raider Nation, who know all-too-well what can happen when a rookie sits out too long. It seems like the finer details are being resolved, and the team can expect him to be at mandatory minicamp. Bech is in a difficult spot, as no second-rounders from this year's draft have signed their contract yet outside of picks No. 33 and No. 34. The Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns set a precedent by signing these players -- Jayden Higgins and Carson Schwesinger -- to fully-guaranteed deals. Now, every agent of a second-round pick is attempting to get their player a fully-guaranteed contract, which typically only happens for first-rounders. Bech was the No. 58 pick, which is in the latter half of the second round, so it may be a reach to get that level of guarantees. Advertisement However, Bech will sign eventually and join the team, it will simply be a matter of how lucrative his contract is before ever playing an NFL snap. Raiders Position Assessment: Breaking down the Las Vegas WR group

With the NFL Draft less than a month away, it's time to check in on the Raiders' wide receiver position to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical. Starters: Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker , ?? Backups: Kyle Philips, Ramel Keyton, DJ Turner, Tyreik McAllister, Jeff Foreman, Kristian Wilkerson, Alex Bachman, Shedrick Jackson Condition: Critical Before all is said and done, this may not be the final group the Raiders head into the draft with. Though all the top free agent options area all gone, there are a few still out there, some with ties to the Raiders. But as of now, the above group is it. Which is to say no true number one and not even a viable number three starter. Draft projection Now that the Raiders found their QB in Geno Smith. they could turn to receive atop the draft. Even if they do sign a veteran free agent. What they could really use is a big X receiver. The most obvious of those in a somewhat thin wide receiver class is Arizona's Tetairoa McMillan. Should they pass on taking him at sixth overall, there are some decent options they could look at on day two. But getting a starting caliber receiver high in this draft should be a priority.
