Phase 3 of Washington Street remodel begins Monday
GREENSBURG – Beginning Monday, April 14, the intersection of Broadway and Washington streets will be closed and will remain closed until mid-May as the third phase in the complete revamp of the Washington Street corridor through downtown Greensburg continues.
When complete, this project will complete the revisioning project of the Greensburg downtown area that began in 2013. In August of that year, the work of installing brick-paved passageways and landscaped crosswalks to Broadway Street began.
In 2018, higher curbs, wrought iron benches and landscaping replaced the sidewalks on Main Street along the south side of the square.
In the summer of 2024, Franklin Street got a makeover.
By September, in time for the Tree City Fall Festival, Washington Street will feature new crosswalks, sidewalks, green spaces and slanted parking places from Franklin Street to Ireland Street.
The project was divided into 4 phases:
Phase 1: Oct. 25 to Dec. 6 2024, Washington Street was closed from Monfort to Jackson Street while the intersections of Jackson and Washington streets remained open.
Phase 2: Dec. 9 to March 3, Washington Street was closed from Jackson Street to the alley behind Pickers' Paradise. The Jackson and Washington Street intersection was closed, but the Broadway/Washington Street intersection remained open.
Phase 3: April 14 to May 15, Washington Street will close from the alley behind Pickers' Paradise to the alley between the tAAp and the Drew Young law office.
Phase 4: May 15 to Sept. 1, Washington Street will close between the tAAp alley and the intersection of Washington and Franklin streets.
All of the businesses bordering Washington Street will remain open during construction.
