Two Police Officers Are Shot and Killed at House in Utah

Two police officers were fatally shot and a sheriff's deputy was wounded while responding to a domestic disturbance call in northern Utah on Sunday, the authorities said. A suspect has been taken into custody. The officers 'took fire' upon arrival at the home at just after 9 p.m. local time Sunday in Tremonton, Utah, the Brigham City Police Department said in a statement shared on social media on Monday. An officer from the Tremonton Garland Police Department who responded to the call was speaking with a person at the residence when a man came out and opened fire, 'striking and killing the officer,' the statement said. The man then shot a second Tremonton Garland officer, who was 'struck and killed,' it said. The man fired several rounds into the vehicle of a deputy from the Box Elder County Sheriff's office who had also responded to the scene, injuring him and his police dog. They were in fair condition, the police said. Bystanders persuaded the shooter to put down his weapon, the police statement said. He was charged with aggravated murder and was being held at the Box Elder County Jail, the statement said.

3 Utah police officers shot responding to ‘disturbance' call; suspect in custody

One suspect is in custody after shooting three police officers who were responding to a "disturbance" call in Utah Sunday night, authorities said. Tremonton Garland Police officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to the area near North Park Elementary School and were met with gunfire from a suspect, Brigham City Detective Crystal Beck told reporters during a briefing overnight. The officers involved in the shooting called for backup, but at some point, stopped responding to their radios, Beck said. Officials confirmed that three officers were shot, though have not said whether any had died as of Monday morning. No further details about the officers shot or the "disturbance" they were responding to were immediately provided. The suspect was eventually taken into custody following a massive police and SWAT response from neighboring agencies in Box Elder, Weber and Cache Counties. Beck said the suspect was not believed to be barricaded at the time of the shooting. Officials have not released any details about the suspect. Authorities said there is no current threat to the community, though they asked the public to avoid the area on Monday morning. Randy Kilman, a resident who said he was driving home at the time of the shooting, told FOX13 Salt Lake City that he saw two police cars and believed someone was "lighting off fireworks" when a bullet struck his car. "I went to go back out, and when I went to back out, I caught a bullet through the driver's side door and it went out my windshield," he said. "So I dove-tailed and ran and ran home and called my wife and told her to come outside, make sure I didn't have no holes in me. It's pretty freaky."

19-year-old exchanged sexual photos, met with minor in Garland, charges say

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. GARLAND, Utah () — A man from Cornish, Utah, is facing 14 felony charges after allegedly exchanging sexual photos and meeting up with an underage girl in Garland. Eric Stephen Stuart, 19, has been charged with eight counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony; six counts of distributing material harmful to a minor, a third-degree felony; and sexual abuse of a minor, a Class A misdemeanor. According to documents, on July 4, just after midnight, the Tremonton-Garland Police Department was contacted by a mother who said that her 14-year-old daughter had left the house to meet up with someone named 'Eric.' An officer was searching an area along Main Street and located a white Buick parked on the north side of Harris Market in Garland. The officer could see the 14-year-old girl sitting in the front middle seat with a man in the driver's seat. That man was later identified as Stuart. Both Stuart and the 14-year-old victim were removed from the vehicle and separated, documents say. The officer asked Stuart about the situation, and Stuart allegedly explained that they were 'just hanging out' and 'talking in the dark' after getting dinner together. Stuart confirmed to police that he was aware of the 14-year-old's age. 'Obviously, she likes me, and I told her she was too young,' Stuart allegedly stated to police when asked why he was sitting with a 14-year-old alone in the dark. The officer asked to search Stuart's phone, and when Stuart gave his consent, he went through the photo album and Snapchat in front of him. Nothing was found in the photo album, but the 'My Eyes Only' folder on Snapchat revealed several pieces of evidence. Stuart gave the officer the password to the secret folder on Snapchat, and inside were multiple photos and videos of the 14-year-old that qualified as child sexual abuse material (CSAM). When asked directly, Stuart confirmed that the CSAM involved the 14-year-old. The 14-year-old and her parents spoke with the officer, and the young victim confirmed that she and Stuart had been exchanging photos and videos. During a search of the 14-year-old's phone, graphic sexual photos and videos of Stuart were located. Both Stuart and the 14-year-old victim allegedly told police that they did not have sex, but the two had kissed before, and Stuart had touched the underage child inappropriately while they were in his car that night. Stuart was arrested and booked into the Box Elder County Jail, where he is currently being held without bail. 17-year-old killed in Summit County motorcycle crash Section of Jordan River Trail to reopen after three-month closure Dean Phillips: Mamdani 'grave threat' to Democrats around US Senate committee votes to block Trump FBI headquarters move Police detonate 'suspicious explosive device' at isolated Farmington parking lot Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
