Tennessee Titans WR Treylon Burks leaves Nissan Stadium practice with shoulder injury
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks left practice with a shoulder injury on July 26 during training camp held at Nissan Stadium. The injury occurred during team drills after Burks made a diving catch along the right sideline from quarterback Cam Ward. Burks caught the ball out of bounds, then immediately grabbed his shoulder as he stood up. He left the field and went straight to the locker room after talking to trainers. "Treylon Burks is being evaluated right now for a shoulder injury," Titans coach Brian Callahan said "We'll have an update on his status at the appropriate time" "I don't know, I didn't really see too much," said rookie receiver Elic Ayomanor, who was on the field during the play. "(I saw) the play, but that's all I really know." The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Burks is coming off a torn ACL that caused him to miss most of the 2024 season. Other injuries caused him to miss several games in 2022 and 2023. The Titans' 2022 first-round pick, Burks has played in 27 games over three seasons. He has 53 catches for 699 yards and one touchdown in his career. In 2022, the Titans drafted Burks at No. 18 overall in a pick they acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles after trading away wide receiver A.J. Brown. Burks was a standout player at Arkansas, where he caught 146 passes for 2,399 yards and 18 touchdowns. BURKS' FUTURE: Forget stardom. Titans WR Treylon Burks fractures collarbone in practice, will miss start of season
Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks, who left practice at Nissan Stadium with a shoulder injury on July 26, suffered a fractured collarbone, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. Rapoport added Burks is expected to miss the start of the season, which begins on Sept. 7 against the Denver Broncos. "Treylon Burks is being evaluated right now for a shoulder injury," coach Brian Callahan said after practice. Titans WR depth chart after Treylon Burks injury: Battle for final receiver spot could be heated
The Tennessee Titans' wide receiver room had the first major injury impact of training camp on July 26. Treylon Burks suffered a fractured collarbone after diving for a pass during a team period at Saturday's practice in Nissan Stadium, NFL Network reported. Burks, the 2022 first-round pick whose career has been overrun by injuries, enters his fourth NFL season with something to prove. He has missed 24 games over the first three seasons due to injury, including missing the final 12 games in 2024 after a torn ACL. Burks' roster spot was far from secure heading into camp, and it's unknown how long he'll be out or if he factors into the mix once healthy. For now, this is how the Titans wide receivers stack up early in the preseason: SATURDAY PRACTICE OBSERVATIONS: Tennessee Titans training camp observations Day 3: Cam Ward dazzles fans with best practice yet GENTRY ESTES: This was a fun Tennessee Titans fan day. Then Treylon Burks got hurt again Tennessee Titans WR depth chart after Treylon Burks injury No. 1 WR: Calvin Ridley Ridley is the top target for quarterback Cam Ward and is coming off of his third 1,000-yard season. He has at least 1,000 receiving yards in his last three full-time seasons. If Ward has a solid rookie year, it's a near-certainty that Ridley's numbers tick up from 2024. Proven veterans: Van Jefferson, Tyler Lockett Lockett is a reliable secondary option for Ward, but how often can he get vertical like he could earlier in his career? Did Seattle change his role for a reason? (His average depth when targeted numbers dropped over the last three seasons.) Jefferson has been a part of the rotation with the first-team offense during early camp practices. Roster locks (and unknown roles): Elic Ayomanor, Chimere Dike Ayomanor and Dike are fourth-round rookies who will have a spot on the roster, but their roles are unknown. Frontrunner for final spot: Bryce Oliver Oliver has also gotten some run with Ward and the first team early in camp. A training camp bright spot last year, Oliver eventually was added to the main roster in November 2024 and played 10 games. He also adds special teams value and versatility (five special teams tackles, a long of 54 in a brief stint as a kickoff returner), which can only help his case. Need a good camp to make roster: Jha'Quan Jackson, Mason Kinsey, Ramel Keyton, Matt Landers, James Proche, Xavier Restrepo, TJ Sheffield Jackson and Kinsey played last season in Nashville but may be the consequence of increased talent and competition in the room. Restrepo's signing as an undrafted free agent garnered attention nationally, but it's going to take a big effort during camp and preseason given the numbers game. (Maybe the Titans keep seven receivers?) Keyton (NFL Network reported Saturday that he was signing with the Titans) and Landers are additions this week, while Proche and Sheffield's best way to make the roster could be via special teams. Tennessee Titans release oft-injured WR Treylon Burks, waiving former 1st-round pick
The Tennessee Titans have waived former first-round pick Treylon Burks with an injury designation following Burks' shoulder injury in practice over the weekend. As a countermove, the Titans signed former University of Tennessee receiver Ramel Keyton. Burks, 25, was the Titans' first-round pick in 2022, selected with the draft pick acquired when the Titans traded Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles. Burks never lived up to his first-round billing, only catching one touchdown in three seasons with the Titans as health struggles and on-field inconsistencies have consistently derailed him. Burks missed most of the 2024 season with an ACL injury. He'd also sustained another knee injury and had multiple concussion issues over his Titans career. Burks caught 53 passes for 699 yards and a touchdown across 27 games with the team. The Titans drafted four players using the picks acquired in the Brown trade, three of whom have already been released. The one remaining player from the trade is cornerback Roger McCreary, with Burks, tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere and receiver Kyle Philips all being off the roster. Treylon Burks released: What Titans have at WR, roster remaining Burks hadn't been working with the Titans' top group of receivers in the early days of training camp pre-injury. Without Burks, the Titans' leading options at receiver still consist of Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett, Van Jefferson, Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor and Bryce Oliver. The receiver corps also includes fringe options like Xavier Restrepo, James Proche II, Mason Kinsey, Jha'Quan Jackson, Matt Landers and Keyton. Titans NFL draft history: Treylon Burks and the enduring legacy By waiving Burks prior to his fourth season, the receiver becomes the third consecutive first-round pick the Titans have failed to get to a second contract. Burks wasn't as big of a bust as 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Wilson, who only lasted one year and never started a game, or as 2021 first-rounder Caleb Farley, who started just two games in his Titans career. But the final three first-round picks of Jon Robinson's tenure as Titans GM are among three of the worst in franchise history, and a big reason for why the team has struggled in recent years. Burks is the seventh of nine players the Titans drafted in 2022 who's already been cut, waived or traded. Other early draft picks from that year who haven't worked out include Petit-Frere, quarterback Malik Willis and running back Hassan Haskins. McCreary and tight end Chig Okonkwo are the only Titans remaining from the Class of 2022. The Titans' three first-round picks since Burks ― offensive linemen Peter Skoronski and JC Latham and quarterback Cam Ward ― are all projected to start in 2025. Tennessee Titans roster: Injuries, surgeries, retirements in training camp Burks isn't the first Titans player who's found his way off the roster in a surprising way within the first week of training camp. Quarterback Will Levis elected to have season-ending surgery before camp even started, ending his season before it begins. And edge defender Lorenzo Carter chose to retire before the start of camp, creating a bit of a hole at outside linebacker. Nick Suss is the Titans beat writer for The Tennessean.
