Councillor demands ‘earlier input' on masterplan for major Trim expansion
The matter arose during the July meeting of the Trim Municipal District, where Councillor Noel French tabled a motion requesting that a plot of land be made available to Trim Women's Shed for a community gardening project near the town's sensory garden.
In response, the council stated it could not grant access to the land, as it falls within the draft masterplan area, which is still under review.
The council said: 'The location identified by Trim Women's Shed for a Community Garden forms part of a wider masterplan area in Trim known as MP31 as designated in the MCDP 2021–2027.'
'A draft masterplan is currently submitted to the Planning Authority for consideration but not yet agreed.'
'Unfortunately MCC would not be in a position to allow any use of the subject lands prior to any agreement on the wider masterplan area.' the local authority added.
Cllr French said he was 'disappointed' by the response and voiced concern over the lack of input from elected representatives in the early stages of the planning process.
He said: 'The councillors needed to be consulted before a draft plan is finalised. As representatives of the people of Trim it is important that we have a say and that a plan by the council officials and private developers is not pushed through without the local representatives having a say in its development.'
'The plan will go on display and the public will have their say on it but I want earlier input. The area at the back of Emmet Street if developed properly could enhance the town and if done improperly could ruin the town,' Cllr Noel added.
