Aaron Judge injury: Yankees reveal ‘the plan' for when MVP front-runner will return

Aaron Judge should return to a reeling Yankees lineup on Tuesday night in Texas. 'That's the plan,' Aaron Boone told reporters. The MVP front-runner has been sidelined with a right elbow flexor strain since Jul 25. and is likely to return at designated hitter on Tuesday night. Judge's reemergence won't come a moment too soon for New York, as Boone's team is riding a four-game losing streak and have dropped 9 of their last 14, falling to third in the AL East. 'It's Aaron Judge, we know what he means to our lineup, to the guys in the room,' Boone said. 'So to get him back, we're certainly excited about that. And then hopefully, shortly thereafter, he's back out in the field, too.' Judge will serve as a designated hitter for the time being until the training staff deems him ready to return to right field. Prior to his injury, the outfielder had been delivering a mammoth 2025 season. Judge has hit 37 home runs with 85 RBIs, and leads the league in batting average (.342), slugging percentage (.711) and OPS (1.160). At ESPN Bet, Judge is currently favored to win the AL MVP Award (-220), with only Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh in striking distance (+165). Stressed-out Yankees feel ‘like crap' as they tumble below Red Sox in standings

The New York Yankees are in a bad place – in more ways than one. After Monday night's walkoff loss to the Texas Rangers, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the team is in a 'stressful' situation and isn't feeling particularly good physically. 'I know everyone feels like crap, but we've got to go take it,' Boone said after Monday's game. 'Haven't been able to do that on this road trip so far. We've got to do it better.' As for the standings, it's even worse. New York has lost four straight games since the MLB trade deadline and has dropped to third in the AL East, behind both the first-place Blue Jays and second-place Red Sox. It's been an especially rough stretch for a Yankees team that was considered to be a serious contender in the first half of the season. But now, New York is in a funk, having gone 7-12 in its past 19 games. Boone suggested that his team is feeling the stress and needs to snap out of it immediately. 'Doesn't matter, though. Doesn't matter – weigh on us, stress. We gotta win. Period. We know that,' Boone said. 'Nobody cares how stressful it is. That's all just noise, excuses, whatever. We've got to go play better and we've got to win, and we know that.' The Yankees' summer sweet has been music to Boston's ears. The Red Sox have peaked right as their chief rivals are hitting their worst stretch of the season. The Yankees are set to get a major boost this week with the expected return of star slugger Aaron Judge. Will that help New York bust out of its funk? We'll find out later this week. Boston Red Sox playoff chances have skyrocketed in past month, per ESPN

The Boston Red Sox have flipped the script on their playoff picture over the course of the past month, both in the MLB standings and ESPN's predictions. On Tuesday, ESPN released the latest version of its Stock Watch and placed Boston as a 'second level' contender in the AL, ranking at the No. 10 spot in Major League Baseball. But don't let that 'second level' label fool you. Boston's outlook has brightened considerably. In last month's Stock Watch, ESPN gave the Red Sox just a 17.8% chance of making the postseason. On Tuesday, their playoff chances sat at 87.6%. Not only that, the Red Sox jumped ahead of the Yankees in both the rankings and playoff chances. New York (ranked No. 11), was given an 87.2% chance of making the postseason. That's down from 95.8% last month. As part of the Stock Watch, ESPN assigned one 'lingering concern' for each team. In Boston's case, that concern was the starting rotation. 'This team makes a lot more sense if you plug a true No. 2 (or a co-No. 1) in the rotation next to Garrett Crochet,' ESPN's Bradford Doolittle wrote. 'The Red Sox are playing so well it seems greedy to quibble, but what will this look like in the playoffs? Some teams tread water with the rotation and ride the bullpen in October. Boston's bullpen has been solid, but it seems like the Red Sox will need more balance. Boston needs big finishes from every starter not named Crochet. And Crochet, too.' Despite not making a big splash at the trade deadline, the Red Sox have been on a hot streak as of late. Despite starting July with a losing record, Boston now sits 12 games over .500 with a record 63-51. That's thanks in large part to the Red Sox winning six straight (and eight of their last nine). Roman Anthony not only key Red Sox outfielder missing from lineup Tuesday

BOSTON — As expected, Roman Anthony is not in the Red Sox lineup against the Royals on Tuesday. Anthony was scratched with mid-back tightness right before Boston's 8-5 win over Kansas City on Monday. Manager Alex Cora said Anthony would be held out of the lineup Tuesday but could return as soon as Wednesday. Kansas City and Boston will play at 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park. Righty Ryan Bergert (1-0, 2.78 ERA) will start for the Royals opposite Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet (12-4, 2.23 ERA). Anthony isn't the only key Red Sox outfielder not in the lineup. Ceddanne Rafaela also will start the game on the bench. Masataka Yoshida is back in the lineup for the first time since Friday. He will play left field. David Hamilton is at second base. Romy Gonzalez is at DH. Crochet is pitching on nine days rest. He hasn't pitched since Saturday, July 26 against the Dodgers at home. The Red Sox are mindful of his workload as he's just 4 ⅔ innings shy of his career high. He's tied for the MLB lead in innings (141 ⅓).
