Reports: Royals bringing up No. 1 prospect Jac Caglianone
June 2 - The No. 6 overall pick in the 2024 draft by the Kansas City Royals, highly touted prospect Jac Caglianone is on the verge of getting the call to the majors, according to multiple reports on Sunday night. Ranked as the No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline, the 22-year-old Caglianone has been tearing it up in his first professional season. At two levels, the 6-foot-5, 250-pound slugger is slashing .322/.389/.593 with 15 home runs and 56 RBIs in 49 games, including .319/.370/.723 with six home runs and 13 RBIs in 12 games at Triple-A Omaha. Caglianone has mainly played the outfield while at Triple-A and is expected to remain there when he joins the Royals for a road series against the St. Louis Cardinals that opens Tuesday. He was a two-way player at the University of Florida but set pitching aside to play first base when he was drafted last July. The Royals, who have scored the second-fewest runs (194) in MLB, are hopeful Caglianone's powerful bat in the middle of the lineup can boost a slumping offense, especially among the outfielders. Kansas City's outfield group ranks last in home runs (seven), RBIs (46) and slugging percentage (.330). --Field Level Media

Justin Slaten goes on injured list with shoulder inflammation
Righthander Related : 'Just a matter of getting ahead of it and taking care of it before something major could happen,' Slaten said. During spring training, the Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up 'I told him [Saturday], I appreciate you being honest,' manager Alex Cora said. Advertisement Slaten has been the primary setup man for closer Greg Weissert and Justin Wilson will likely get much of the opportunity. So far, the Sox don't think Slaten needs an MRI. 'Just general fatigue, just get ahead of it,' he said. 'Give the shoulder a little time to calm down.' Slaten had a 3.47 earned run average over 24 appearances this season. He has allowed fewer hits per nine innings than last season but his walks are up and strikeouts down. Advertisement Change of plans The Sox were planning to give Abraham Toro for the third straight game. Toro was 2 for 4 with a run scored 'Toro's pushing the envelope,' Cora said. 'He's putting good at-bats.' As to when Campbell will play first, Cora said only that the coaches will keep working with him. Campbell started at second base and was 1 for 4. Shuffling the deck The Sox switched up utility players, calling up Nate Eaton and demoting Nick Sogard . Eaton, a righthanded hitter, hit .277 with an .810 OPS at Worcester and started games at every position except first base, catcher, and pitcher. Related : With lefthanders Tyler Anderson and Yusei Kikuchi scheduled to pitch for the Angels on Monday and Tuesday at Fenway Park, Eaton could be in the lineup. Eaton, who didn't play on Sunday, appeared in 72 games for the Royals from 2022-23 hitting .201 with a .549 OPS. He was signed as a minor league free agent in November. 'They just told me to be ready with the slate of guys we face coming up,' he said. 'Definitely nice being part of the Red Sox organization.' Sogard is a switch-hitter but the Sox wanted to get a look at Eaton. The graduate Richard Fitts graduated from Auburn recently, having completed his degree in business administration. He left school after three years to sign with the Yankees after being drafted in 2021 and finished up online. Fitts is scheduled to start Monday night in the first game of a three-game series against the Angels at Fenway Park. The Sox plan to use Hunter Dobbins for multiple innings in relief. Brayan Bello and Jarren Duran is hitless in his last 16 at-bats, dropping his OPS to .718 … The Sox are 11-6 at Truist Park since 2017, and again this weekend a good percentage of fans were rooting for the visiting team … To make room for Eaton on the 40-man roster, the Sox designated Triple A catcher Blake Sabol for assignment. He was 2 for 16 in eight games with the major league team earlier this season. Advertisement Peter Abraham can be reached at

‘Unreal': Seattle's Cole Young walks off Twins in MLB debut, Raleigh ties home run lead
Cole Young still can't describe the unforgettable moment: Seattle's No. 3 prospect walked off the Minnesota Twins in his MLB debut. The 21-year-old infielder chopped a ground ball down the first-base line that was enough to score Miles Mastrobuoni from third for a walk-off fielder's choice, sealing Seattle's 5-4 win in the 11th inning at T-Mobile Park. Mere hours after soaking in the atmosphere and discovering his major league locker for the first time, Young was Seattle's hero — becoming the first player in Mariners history to record a walk-off plate appearance in his major league debut. 'That was unreal,' Young said. Rumors swirled of a potential Young call-up on Friday night, when the left-handed hitting infielder was removed from Triple-A Tacoma's 7-2 win over Salt Lake in the fourth inning. Seattle made his activation official on Saturday morning after Young hit .366 (37-for-101) with 21 RBI in the month of May for the Rainiers. '(Tacoma manager John Russell) came up to me after the third inning,' Young said, recalling Friday night's game. 'He was like, 'You're going to Seattle tomorrow.' 'And I had him repeat it. Like, 'What?' I couldn't believe it. 'Last night, I didn't sleep at all, just thinking about what would happen today. … That was a crazy game.' Young's infusion was the difference after Minnesota rallied to tie Saturday's middle game in the ninth inning but failed to score in the 10th or 11th. He drove his first-career MLB hit into right field in the home ninth and finished 1-for-4 with a walk, RBI, and the game-winner. MLB's No. 43 overall prospect is the youngest position player to appear in Triple-A's Pacific Coast League this spring, a first-round draft selection (21st overall) by the Mariners in 2022. He was named PCL Player of the Week from May 5-11, amassing a 1.357 OPS after reaching safely in all six games. 'He's been on fire down in Tacoma,' Mariners manager Dan Wilson said before Young's debut. 'Obviously, getting some time down in Triple-A to see how things worked out for him, and he took that opportunity and ran with it. It's exciting to have him here and part of the club today.' Young's flyout to right field ended the second inning in his first career at-bat, and doubt crept in — but the 21-year-old thought back to what he learned throughout an April slump, when Young slashed .200/.327/.274 across 25 games in Tacoma. 'It made me take a step back and realize what I need to do different,' Young said. 'Since I learned my lesson that whole month, it helped me adjust my mindset after that first at-bat, and just realize what got me through that struggle. 'Whenever I'm feeling those types of emotions, I can handle it.' The Mariners rallied from an early 3-0 deficit, propelled with two-run home runs by catcher Cal Raleigh (third inning) and shortstop J.P. Crawford (seventh) before Young snapped Seattle's three-game losing streak. Raleigh's 22nd home run of the season tied the Platinum Glove-winning backstop with Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani for the MLB lead. He's the first Seattle player with consecutive 10-homer months since Alex Rodriguez in July and Aug. 1999.

Dodgers transfer pitcher Tyler Glasnow to 60-day injured list and claim catcher Chuckie Robinson
Los Angeles Dodgers starter Tyler Glasnow has been transferred to the 60-day injured list. The team made the move Saturday when catcher Chuckie Robinson was claimed off waivers. The 30-year-old was designated for assignment this week by the Angels. Glasnow first went on the 15-day IL on April 28 with right shoulder inflammation. With the current move, the right-hander would be eligible to return in late June. He threw his first bullpen session last week. Glasnow has made five starts this season, going 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 18 innings. His first season with the Dodgers was cut short last year because of right elbow tendinitis. Robinson was batting .272 with one home run and 18 RBIs with Triple-A Salt Lake City. He debuted in the majors with Cincinnati, playing 25 games and hitting two homers and driving in five runs. He also spent time with the Chicago White Sox last year. Robinson has a .992 fielding percentage and is 12-for-48 in runners caught stealing.
