Eddie Hearn drops Anthony Joshua injury update and reveals return fight plans
The two-time heavyweight world champion is hoping to return to competitive action later this year after undergoing successful elbow surgery Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has shared that his top client, Anthony Joshua, is plotting his next steps after a successful elbow operation. The two-time heavyweight world champion has not stepped into the ring since his crushing knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September. Initially, it seemed 'AJ' was gearing up for an immediate rematch with 'Triple D', but minor injuries from their first bout meant the 35-year-old was not ready for a quick return. The British boxer had planned a summer comeback, but an elbow injury delayed his return to full training. Now, post-surgery, Joshua is eyeing a return to the ring towards the end of the year, according to his promoter. "He's had the operation, which went very well, and now he's just sort of rehabbing it," Hearn told BoxingScene. "I believe about six weeks till he can punch again properly, and that kind of lends itself to a September, October, November fight. That gives us a chance to see what happens with Dubois against Usyk. That gives us a chance to see if Mr. Fury will ever return, and maybe something else. But he's definitely fighting this year and looking forward to it." Tyson Fury retired for the fifth time in January following his second consecutive defeat to Oleksandr Usyk. However, Joshua hasn't given up on the prospect of a match with the former champion. 'AJ' remains sceptical about Fury's retirement being permanent and seems confident that their bout could still happen. The 35-year-old recently shared a snap of himself watching Fury's fight on his private Snapchat, hinted at a future showdown with the 'Gypsy King', stating: "One of these days I'll be standing in the opposite corner. Ready and fully charged spiritually." However, Fury dealt another blow to his long-time rival by asserting he had nothing left to prove in the boxing ring. Speaking from Lake Como, he said: "I hear a lot of talk about the Gypsy King returning to boxing and I ask this question: for what? What would I return for? More belts? I've won 22 of them. "I've been used, that's it, fair play to them, they got their use out of me. But I'm happy, I am happy, content with what I have achieved and accomplished. I've been around the world and back again. And this is what retirement looks like for the Gypsy King, not too shabby." Fury added: 'I'm in no rush at all, to come back to boxing and get my face punched in. For what? What would I return for? I ask that question. I am retired and I am staying retired. I have nothing to prove to anybody and nothing to return for." The video was shared just days after he teased an imminent announcement hinting at a potential comeback. In an Instagram video alongside his father John Fury, the Gypsy King said: "Business meeting today, dad. En-route. Incoming, incoming." Before dropping a hint to his fans, Fury treated them to a sneak peek inside the gym with his coach SugarHill Steward. "Just in the gym, happened to bump into somebody you might know," the Gypsy King teased in the video he shared. As the camera swivelled to capture his trainer's beaming face, SugarHill made no secret of the excitement in the air, declaring: "You know what time it is!" Closing out his social media share, the heavyweight champ dangled a tantalising teaser, saying simply but suggestively: "You know what's coming."

Oleksandr Usyk describes hardest punch he has ever taken
Oleksandr Usyk has faced some of the biggest punchers in the sport during his career - but the Ukrainian has revealed the hardest punch he's ever taken was not from Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua Boxing star Oleksandr Usyk has left many surprised with a revelation about the toughest punch he's ever taken. The former undisputed cruiserweight world champion is gearing up for what promises to be an electrifying rematch at Wembley Stadium in July against Daniel Dubois. The two have previously locked horns back in 2023, which saw Usyk knock out. 'Triple D'. But there was controversy as Usyk took a tumble in the fifth round due to what turned out to be a low blow, leaving Dubois exasperated. The contentious punch has been a prime subject of debate since their next bout has been confirmed. The verbal sparring continued on Piers Morgan's Uncensored, where Usyk and Dubois exchanged taunts just last week. During the fiery discussion, Usyk was quizzed on whether Dubois' below-the-belt punch was the hardest he'd ever encountered. Having faced boxing giants like Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua, Usyk stunned many by confessing that the most forceful hit he'd ever endured didn't come from a fellow human but rather from a horse. Addressing Dubois' punch, Usyk remarked, "It was a hard punch", leading Morgan to ask, "The hardest you've had?" To this question, the 38 year old Ukrainian retorted, "No, because when I was young I took a punch [from a] horse." A perplexed Morgan responded with, "A horse? Really?". The heavyweight sensation Oleksandr Usyk set the record straight regarding a rather quirky incident involving an animal. "A horse, yeah," he clarified with a gesture imitating riding a horse. "I worked on a farm. I go, 'Hey, get it out, get it out,' Boom, [it's] legs [caught me]." He lightheartedly bragged about the equine adversary: "Zero fights, zero wins... KO." Piers Morgan curiously asked if that was the hardest punch he'd ever received from a living creature. "It was a hard punch," Usyk admitted, and then Daniel Dubois butted in with his thoughts on their sparring history: "I don't think it landed... he ain't really felt my power yet. Last time he got away, he ain't really felt it." The Ukrainian champion is hoping to keep his unbeaten streak as he faces Dubois later this year, hinting at hanging up his gloves after two more bouts. During a chat with Mail Sport, when questioned about who he wants for his last dance in the ring, the 38 year old boxer revealed two prospects: Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, leaning towards the latter for another throwdown. "Right now my focus is on Daniel Dubois and that is what I am working towards. But, for my last fight, I have two options. Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury," Usyk disclosed. Pushed to choose between the two heavyweights, Usyk, with a sly grin, quickly confided: "Tyson Fury."

Daniel Dubois shoves Oleksandr Usyk in first face-off ahead of undisputed fight
Daniel Dubois has viciously shoved heavyweight king Oleksandr Usyk during their first face-off ahead of their blockbuster rematch. On Sunday evening, it was announced that the pair would go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium, London, on July 29 with all four world titles on the line in what promises to be a historic night of action. 'I'm grateful to God for the opportunity to once again fight for the undisputed championship,' said Usyk. 'Thank you, Daniel, for taking care of my IBF belt - now I want it back.' 'As for Dubois, the Brit said: "This is the fight I wanted and demanded and now I get my chance for revenge against Oleksandr Usyk,' said Dubois. 'I should have won the first fight and was denied by the judgement of the referee, so I will make no mistake this time around in front of my people at the national stadium in my home city. I am a superior and more dangerous fighter now and Usyk will find this out for himself on July 19. I would like to thank my promoter Frank for making this happen for me and I intend to repay him by becoming the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.' The British star was famously stopped by the Ukrainian two years ago in a controversial dust-up in which 'Triple D' was convinced he dropped Usyk. However, his shot was deemed as a low blow, much to the frustration of Dubois. The 27-year-old is confident he can exact his revenge in the rematch and it seems as if there's a bit of bad blood following their physical altercation on Monday morning.
