Morocco Continues to Strengthen Position as Key Fertilizer Supplier to India

Rabat – Morocco continues to strengthen its position as a fertilizer supplier for many countries, including India. Last week, India's Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Anupriya Patel, said Morocco is among the alternative suppliers for India in terms of water-soluble fertilizers. She told the Indian parliament that a 'significant quantity is important from China as well as alternative suppliers like Belgium, Egypt, Germany, and the USA.' Morocco's OCP Group is one of the leading and giant fertilizer suppliers. In 2023, the Moroccan fertilizer giant announced a deal with India to supply the country with 1.7 million metric tonnes of phosphate-based fertilizer. The agreement sought to provide India with up to 700,000 MT of Triple Super Phosphate. It is a phosphate-based fertilizer that has the highest phosphate content. The fertilizers can be used to meet the specific needs of plants and soils in India. The agreement also includes the delivery of 1,000,000 tons of diamonium phosphate to Indian farmers. In July, OCP Nutricrops celebrated surpassing five million tonnes of Tripe Super Phosphate fertilizer production. The fertilizer is also known as TSP, a key concentrated phosphate fertilizer that contains over 90% of phosphorus in a plant-available form. This makes it suitable for nutrient-deficient soils and smart fertilizer strategies. Morocco's phosphates and their derivatives' exports brought in $2 billion to the North African country in the first quarter of 2025, representing an increase of 18.2%. OCP Nutricrops Surpasses 5 Million Tonnes of TSP Fertilizer

Rabat – OCP Nutricrops has celebrated surpassing five million tonnes of Triple Super Phosphate (TSP) fertilizer production. In a press release today, OCP Nutricrops said it achieved this result thanks to its strategic TSP Hub program, which operates from the Jorf Lasfar industrial platform. The Manufacturing SBU leads the program in collaboration with OCP Nutricrops, OFAS, and JESA. The hub relies on the use of unconventional water resources as part of OCP Group's sustainability strategy. TSP is a key concentrated phosphate fertilizer that contains over 90% of phosphorus in a plant-available form. This makes it suitable for nutrient-deficient soils and smart fertilization strategies, the statement added. OCP Nutricrops stressed the importance of the program and its ability to address challenges of demanding and customized agriculture by delivering fertilizer production tailored to the diverse and growing needs of the market. It uses a 'flexible industrial process that allows precise integration of nutrients and additives.' The plator works to meet the specific needs of farmers according to their soils and crops, providing industrial agility and speed in developing new and customized formulations. The hub has two production lines, each with an annual capacity of 500,000 tonnes. OCP Nutricrops also announced an ambitious program to adapt nitrogen fertilizer that is underway. The new initiative seeks to integrate new equipment and modify existing facilities to enable them to produce TSP. Youssef El Bari, CEO of OCP Nutricrops, said the TSP Hub represents a 'major step in our phosphate fertilizer production strategy,' as it strengthens the group's ability to deliver high agnostic value fertilizers that meet the specific needs of soil and farmers across the world. He further continued that TSP Hub also enhances the group's 'industrial precision, performance, and capacity.' Ahmed Mahrou, Managing Director of the Manufacturing SBU, also spoke of the importance of the TSP Hub, explaining that it reflects the industrial transformation led by the Manufacturing SBU to address the challenges of fertilizer customization amid increasing agronomic diversification. 'It marks the emergence of an ambidextrous, agile, and customer-focused industrial model, where the production tool becomes a strategic lever,' Mahrou stated. He pointed out the Manufacturing SBU's commitment towards delivering an increasing number of customized products to highly differentiated needs. 'This dynamic illustrates our commitment to putting industrial performance – in flexibility, capacity, and adaptability – at the service of sustainable value creation,' he added. OCP Group Sells $1.75 Billion in Dual-Tranche Eurobond

Rabat – Moroccan phosphate giant OCP announced on Friday, April 25, that it had raised $1.75 billion through a dual-tranche Eurobond issuance to support its expansion plan. The state-owned group sold $750 million in bonds it will repay in five years and $1 billion in bonds due in about 11 years. Demand was four times what was on offer, showing strong investor confidence in OCP's outlook. The funds will be used to expand production, modernize facilities, and support sustainability projects around the world. Earlier on April 24, at the International Agriculture Exhibition in Morocco (SIAM), OCP laid out a four-pillar strategy—soil health, sustainable water management, carbon sequestration and inclusion of rural communities—designed to bolster agricultural resilience in Morocco and across Africa. Under soil health, its Nutricrops unit champions the '4R' fertilization approach — Right Source, Right Rate, Right Time, Right Place — combining detailed land mapping and advanced soil analyses with personalized, low-carbon fertilizers such as calcium-enriched Triple Super Phosphate, all managed through a digital agronomy platform. In water management, OCP's Green Water initiative has eliminated the use of freshwater in its industrial operations since 2024 by relying entirely on non-conventional sources like desalinated and recycled water. These sources are delivered via a 219 km pipeline between Jorf and Khouribga capable of transporting up to 80 million m³ per year, and through pilot irrigation zones in arid regions developed with UM6P, INNOVX, Aradinov and AgriEdge. Read also: For carbon action, the Tourba carbon-farming program transforms agricultural soils into carbon sinks, generating tradable carbon credits and providing financial incentives to farmers. More than 2,000 Moroccan growers have joined the scheme, and OCP aims to extend it to six million hectares across Africa and South America, sequestering seven million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2030. By comparison, OCP's prior record bond sale on April 24, 2024, raised $2.0 billion in two tranches—$1.25 billion of ten-year notes at a 6.75 percent coupon and $750 million of thirty-year notes at 7.50 percent, used to finance its Green Investment Program through 2027. OCP Reports Solid Performance in 2024, Revenues Reach $10 Billion

Rabat – OCP Group has reported a solid performance in the year 2024, attributing it to efficiency gains in production and rigorous cost optimization in a favorable market environment. The group recorded MAD 97 billion ($10 billion) in revenue last year, compared to MAD 91.3 billion at the end of December 2023, thanks to the phosphate fertilizer market benefiting from stable prices. The favorable performance was also supported by strong demand in major agricultural regions such as Oceania, Europe, North America, and several African and Asian countries. OCP also attributed the development to fertilizer sales growth, supported by increased exports to Europe, North America, and India. 'Phosphoric acid benefited from strong demand in Europe and Latin America, where OCP seized new market opportunities,' OCP's report said, noting that earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) reached a margin of 40%. OCP described the achievement as 'one of the best in the industry and well above the sector average,' adding that the group made significant progress in its sustainability program with major advances in water resource management and the transition to renewable energy. The group's management celebrated the 2024 performance, noting that it reflects the group's ability to effectively adapt to changing market conditions and enhance its production and operational efficiency. 'The market conditions were generally in line with our expectations, with sustained demand in most key regions. OCP's past and ongoing investments in capacity expansion and innovation have strengthened our industrial flexibility and commercial agility, enabling the group to consistently and efficiently capture additional global demand,' OCP's management said. The group stated that fertilizers accounted for 69% of OCP's total revenue in 2024, compared to 66% the previous year. It noted increases in different components –including a 48% rise in Triple Super Phosphate export volumes that represented 21% of fertilizer sales. This reflected strong demand from key importing regions, especially Brazil and India. 'Our efficiency gains in production and our cost optimization programs have enabled us to generate significant operational leverage, with a 33% increase in EBITDA and an 800 basis point improvement in our EBITDA margin, while our revenues grew by 6%,' the management added. Sustainability program OCP also stressed the progress made as part of its sustainability program, covering water management and renewable energy projects. The group desalinated 63 million cubic meters of water to supply its production facilities. This enabled the group to maintain stable operations despite water stress and drought. The group also reported significant progress in its solar energy program, with the first phase nearing completion. OCP said that these programs contribute to efforts aimed at leveraging Morocco's excellent climate conditions to progressively decarbonize the group's operations. OCP CEO and chairman Mostafa Terrab celebrated these achievements, noting that the group appreciates the 'excellent reception of the second phase of our investment program, currently underway.' 'Following the success of our Eurobond issuance in May 2024, we concluded several additional financing agreements throughout the year,' noting the funds raised are 'being responsibly invested to strengthen our competitiveness and sustainability, address global food insecurity and meet anticipated long-term demand.' As a global leader in fertilizers, the group has established itself as a major investor, producer, and distributor, aiming to contribute to food security worldwide, particularly in Africa.
