Letter to the editor: U.S. aid and Christianity

Letter to the editor: U.S. aid and Christianity | Opinion Editor's note: Our San Angelo area readers reflect many diverse opinions and viewpoints. Letters to the editor are written by members of our local community and reflect their personal beliefs not those of the San Angelo Standard-Times. The opinion of these letters is neither endorsed nor opposed by the SAST. Reading the report, "US aid help halt cripples famine efforts," in the Feb. 7 Standard-Times immediately brought this from Matthew 25 to my mind: 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me ... . 45 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.' Five hundred thousand tons of food assistance worth $340 million in limbo. So much for our "Christian" president. Richard Sutherland Letters to the editor can be submitted to Executive Editor Trish Choate at tchoate@ or through an online form. Letters must be signed, no more than 250 words, free of abusive language and free of personal attacks. Please include address and telephone number for verification. We cannot print letters from individuals who are incarcerated. Letters are subject to editing for length, grammar and spelling.
