Gorio to be a typhoon in next 12 hours; Habagat rain showers seen
Severe Tropical Storm Gorio (international name: Podul) is expected to reach typhoon category in the next 12 hours, PAGASA said Monday. Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will bring rain showers in other areas. Podul entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility at 11:20 p.m. on Sunday and was given the domestic name Gorio. At 4 a.m., Gorio's center was estimated to be located at 1,305 km east of Extreme Northern Luzon. The storm has maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 135 km/h, and central pressure of 985 hPa. Gorio is moving westward at 25 km/h. From its center, strong to storm-force winds are extending outwards up to 280 km. PAGASA said it has not raised any Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal. "Wala tayong inaasahang direktang epekto sa ating panahon ngayong araw (We are not expecting it to have a direct effect on our weather conditions today), DOST-PAGASA weather specialist Daniel James Villamil said in a public weather forecast. "Gorio is unlikely to directly affect the country within the next three days," PAGASA said in its tropical cyclone bulletin. "However, in the event of a further southward shift in the forecast track, hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 over Extreme Northern Luzon is not ruled out," it added. Meanwhile, the coastal waters of Extreme Northern Luzon will have moderate seas (1.0 to 1.5 meters) due to Gorio. "Mariners of motor bancas and similarly sized vessels are advised to take precautionary measures while venturing out to sea and, if possible, avoid navigating in these conditions, especially if inexperienced or operating ill-equipped vessels," PAGASA said. Gorio is expected to continue moving generally westward in the next 24 hours, then west northwestward from Tuesday afternoon onward. It is seen to make landfall over Taiwan's northeastern coast on Wednesday and exit PAR by Wednesday evening or Thursday early morning. "Gorio may reach typhoon category within the next 12 hours before gradually weakening throughout the remaining forecast period," PAGASA said. Habagat Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) will affect the western section of Luzon, the weather bureau said. Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, Batanes, and Babuyan Islands may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the monsoon. Flash floods or landslides may result during severe thunderstorms. The rest of the country, meanwhile, will likewise have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms but this is due to localized thunderstorms. During severe thunderstorms, flash floods or landslides may occur. Slight to moderate seas will prevail in coastal waters. Sunrise was at 5:42 a.m. while sunset will be at 6:21 p.m. —KG, GMA Integrated News

Marcos says some areas can't be entered yet as floods still high
President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on Thursday, July 24, 2025, inspected evacuation centers in San Mateo, Rizal, where he led in the distribution of food packs to those displaced by the bad weather. BERNADETTE REYES/GMA Integrated News President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. said Thursday that some areas could not be entered yet as they are still submerged in floods. Speaking to reporters, Marcos, however, ensured that help is on the way for the affected residents, including medicines and relief goods. ''Unfortunately we are at the mercy of the weather,'' Marcos said. ''And there are areas na hindi pa natin mapasok, but mag-aanatay tayo, pagbaba ng tubig, we're finding ways kahit may baha, eh siyempre may mga rubber boat, magpadala ng doktor, magpadala ng gamot, ng relief goods o kung hindi para i-evacuate 'yung tao,'' he added. (And there are areas which we can't enter yet, but we will wait for the floodwaters to subside, we're finding ways that even there's floods we can send doctors, medicines, relief goods or just evacuate the residents.) The President, however, did not identify these areas. Marcos also pointed out that in the long run, the public must think of adaptation as the impacts of tropical cyclones, as part of climate change, are inevitable. ''That is the fact of climate change and we are now having to think more. Of course mitigation, kung ano 'yung mga pwedeng gawin para matulungan nga 'yung mga naging biktima (Of course mitigation, whatever we need to do to help the victims),'' he said. ''Pero in the longer term, kailangan na nating mag-isip tungkol sa adaptation. What do we have to do when it comes again because it will come again,'' Marcos said. (In the longer term, we need to think about adaptation.) Weather agency PAGASA said the combined effects of Dante, Emong, and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat are bringing heavy rains in different parts of the country. Due to Emong, rainfall of over 200 millimeter is expected over Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Benguet from Thursday to Friday noon, according to PAGASA's 11 a.m. advisory. Habagat, which is enhanced by Dante and Emong, will also bring over 200 mm of rainfall in Bataan and Occidental Mindoro from Thursday to Friday noon. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 is still hoisted over two areas as Typhoon Emong is seen to make a close approach over Pangasinan province. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News

LPA near Cagayan may develop into Tropical Depression 'Bising'- PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced Wednesday that a low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has a high chance of intensifying into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. If it develops into a storm, it will be locally named 'Bising', the second tropical cyclone to affect the Philippines this year, said PAGASA weather specialist John Manalo. As of 3:00 p.m., the LPA was located approximately 155 kilometers east of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. Due to its close proximity to land, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 may be raised over parts of Eastern Northern and Central Luzon once it develops further. PAGASA cautioned residents in these areas to stay alert for weather advisories and potential heavy rainfall. Meanwhile, a separate tropical depression is being monitored outside PAR, located 2,615 km east northeast of Itbayat, Batanes, moving northwestward at 15 kph, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness up to 70 kph. Earlier, PAGASA forecasted that 2 to 3 tropical cyclones may form inside PAR in July, some of which could potentially make landfall in the Visayas or Central Luzon, or pass close to Batanes.
