Arsenal make unusual Leandro Trossard decision after summer transfer exit links

Arsenal have been linked with a host of widemen this summer with Mikel Arteta keen to bolster his attacking options but a bizarre deal has already been struck with Leandro Trossard Leandro Trossard has reached an agreement over a new contract with Arsenal, but it won't keep him at the club any longer. ‌ The Belgian winger had just two years remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and as a result he had been linked with a move away from North London amid reported interest from Saudi Arabia. But it now appears likely that he will stay with Arsenal for the time being. ‌ According to The Athletic, Arsenal have agreed a new contract with Trossard that will see him secure a 'significant pay rise'. But the deal will not be extended beyond its current expiration of 2027. ‌ It is suggested that the new deal will bring the former Brighton man's salary in line with his valued role in the squad. Trossard has scored 23 goals in 124 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal since a £27m move in January 2023. Speaking last season, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta hailed Trossard for his importance and winning mentality. He said: 'Yeah, Leo is naturally a bit of a moaner but I like that because he's very competitive and you have training sessions, he's always busy with the referee's decision, because he wants to win. That's what I love. 'He always wants to be the best and when he's not there, he's not happy. But that's what pushes him. That's where he comes in on the pitch, he can make an impact because he's got that drive, that anger which says: 'I'm gonna show you.' I love that about him. 'He's a really good character. They all want to play. Always want to play. Leo has shown a lot more consistency in the last 12 months, he's deserved that. He's had a lot of competition in his position. That's it. Raise the level. If he plays at that level then he will play like anyone else. He has the capacity to do something special in the final third. 'He's played and with us he's played as a left winger, as an attacking midfielder, he's played as a nine and he's a player that I value a lot, we value a lot because he's very versatile and very competitive and he's a massive goal threat for the team. Really happy with him.' ‌ Meanwhile, Trossard was asked at the time about a new contract and underlined his happiness with life in North London. He said: 'I'm just focused on my football. But you never know in football how things turn out but I'm really happy here. 'I still want to win things here and I think there's a great squad, a great team with a great manager who pushed us every day to achieve great things.' Trossard was left on the bench as Arsenal opened up their campaign with a 1-0 win vs Manchester United at the weekend. Leandro Trossard: Arsenal forward set to pen new deal as 'value' recognised

Leandro Trossard is set to sign a new contract at Arsenal. The Belgian, who joined the Gunners for £27million from Brighton and Hove Albion back in 2023, has spent two and a half seasons in north London, scoring 28 times and assisting 23 in 124 games at the Emirates Stadium. He has played a crucial role in Mikel Arteta's turning around of the club's fortunes, with Arsenal now firmly considered title contenders. The Athletic reports that the winger has agreed on fresh terms to his current deal, which will mean a 'significant' wage increase to reflect his valued role within the first-team fold. Trossard's current contract expires in 2027, and that will be the case once more with his new deal. Previous reports had claimed that Trossard could leave north London with Arsenal rumoured to be wanting to strengthen their frontline. Trossard was an unused substitute in Arsenal's opening-day victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford last Sunday, when Riccardo Calafiori notched the winner. Trossard suffered a groin injury during the Gunners' pre-season friendly against rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong earlier last month, and has yet to return to action since then.

Leandro Trossard makes final decision on Arsenal future

Leandro Trossard has put an end to speculation over his future by agreeing to a new contract at Arsenal, according to reports. There have been rumours throughout the summer that Trossard could quit Arsenal for a fresh challenge before the transfer deadline on September 1, three years after joining the club from Brighton. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich had been exploring a move for Trossard while scouring the market for a replacement for Leroy Sane, who left to join Galatasaray back in June. But Trossard has reportedly been unreceptive to Bayern's advances and 'there are no significant developments' regarding the Belgian potentially leaving, according to The Athletic. The report claims Trossard and Arsenal have now struck an informal agreement during positive talks between the two parties and the winger is set to receive a salary increase 'in line with his valued role' at the Emirates. More Trending Mikel Arteta opted to start Gabriel Martinelli on the left flank for Arsenal's Premier League opener with Manchester United and the Brazilian was replaced by summer signing Noni Madueke in the second half. Trossard was left as an unused substitute at Old Trafford and will no doubt be desperate for minutes in the Gunners' second match of the campaign against newly promoted Leeds. More to follow. 5:18PM Injury news Gabriel and Jurrien Timber are continuing their rehabilitation after undergoing surgery earlier this year, while Riccardo Calafiori picked up a knee issue during Arsenal's tour of Asia. The Sweden forward eventually signed for the north London side at the end of July after a drawn out transfer saga in a deal worth up to £64 million, and Mikel Arteta will be hoping the 27-year-old can solve his most pressing issue from recent seasons as Arsenal have fallen short of the title – the lack of an out-and-out, goalscoring No 9. Fellow summer signing Noni Madueke, meanwhile, could make his first appearance for the club following his move from Chelsea, worth up to £52m. The England winger makes the bench this evening having been left out of Arsenal's pre-season tour to Asia following his Club World Cup exploits with Enzo Maresca's side. This evening's clash with Villarreal is the fourth of Arsenal's five pre-season matches. Arteta's men picked up wins against AC Milan and Newcastle United in Asia but were beaten in their final game of the tour by Tottenham Hotspur thanks to Pape Matar's Sarr spectacular halfway-line strike. They take on Athletic Bilbao on Saturday, also at the Emirates, in their final game before kicking off their Premier League campaign the following Sunday against Manchester United at Old Trafford. Arteta will be desperate to go one step further this time around having finished second in the last three seasons. Speaking ahead of tonight's clash, the Spanish manager said: 'We've been changing conditions, changing contexts, and now we are playing at home against two teams preparing to be in the Champions League this season… I expect these to be really good games.'
