Local musicians chosen to open for Dean Brody at Barrie's Troubadour Festival

Three emerging musicians from across the region have been selected to perform as part of the Local Opener Showcase at this year's Troubadour Festival Summer Concert Series in downtown Barrie. The winners—Cam Brown, Rebekah Hawker, and Lance Dobinson—were announced Friday. Each will take the Meridian Place stage on Sat., June 14, each performing 30-minute sets ahead of Canadian country music superstar Dean Brody, who headlines the opening night of the four-part series. 'This is the best news,' said Brown, an acoustic singer/songwriter based in Barrie. 'I'm absolutely ecstatic to be a part of the Local Opener Showcase.' Brown, known for his heartfelt performances at venues across the region, said his sound is influenced by chart-topping artists like Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen, and Kacey Musgraves. Cam Brown Hawker, who blends country and folk, has earned attention after opening for artists such as Jim Cuddy and The Good Lovelies. She was also named the Emerging Artist Showcase winner at the Mariposa Folk Festival. 'Thank you so much,' she said after receiving the news. 'I appreciate this so much and am so excited to be included.' Rebekah Hawker Dobinson, a performer with a passion for classic country and the timeless voice of Elvis Presley, rounds out the trio. He has previously shared the stage with Canadian country artists Aaron Pritchett and Jamie Warren. 'I am certainly honoured to be a part of this event, so thank you,' stated Dobinson. Along with Dean Brody on June 14, the festival also features headliners The 99s on July 26, Hawksley Workman on Aug. 16, and Brett Kissel on Sept. 6.

We are now less than one month away from Dean Brody taking the stage to kick off the Troubadour Festival Summer Concert Series in Barrie. The festival is proud to announce the return of its Local Openers Showcase, an exciting opportunity for emerging artists to step into the spotlight and perform live in front of thousands at Meridian Place. The series is a four-part celebration of live music, presented by CTV Barrie, Pure Country 106, BOUNCE 104.1, and the Downtown Barrie BIA. Open to solo performers, duos, and bands, the showcase features separate categories for youth and adult artists (18+). Selected performers will be chosen by a local jury and given the opportunity to open one of the major concerts in this year's summer series. 'Events like the Troubadour Festival and Open Air Dunlop are what define our city's spirit. They connect people, energize local businesses, and draw thousands to our beautiful waterfront and downtown core,' said Barrie Mayor Alex Nuttall. Each event in the concert series includes three local opening slots, offering a total of twelve performance opportunities. How to apply Submissions are open now and will close on Fri., May 23. Star-studded concert series comes to Barrie

Downtown Barrie will be rocking this summer with star-studded performances as part of the Troubadour Festival Summer Concert Series, a four-part celebration of live music at Meridian Place, presented by CTV Barrie, Pure Country 106, BOUNCE 104.1, and the Downtown Barrie BIA. The series features 18-time CCMA award winner Dean Brody, the high-energy, eight-piece supergroup The 99s, critically acclaimed singer-songwriter and multiple Juno award-winner Hawksley Workman, and multi-award-winning country music star Brett Kissel as headliners. The Local Opener Series will showcase emerging regional talent, including Elmvale's powerhouse vocalist Dayna Reid, who says she's excited to perform in front of a hometown crowd. Reid will be the opening act for Kissel. 'My little town of Elmvale has always supported me,' Reid said. 'I would say it's a very small town with a big heart, and just seeing familiar faces, but also connecting with new people and Brett's fans, that just kind of makes it full circle for me.' Submissions for the Local Opener Series open on May 8 and close on May 23. There are multiple categories: Youth Under 18, House Band, plus three opening spots for each event day.
