Name KCI terminal after President Truman? Mayor hears group's proposal
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas met with a group Wednesday to hear a proposal to name the terminal at Kansas City International Airport after President Harry Truman.
The terminal at KCI opened to travelers in 2023 after years of planning and construction.

According to the mayor's office, Mayor Lucas met with representatives of the , who wish to honor Truman, a native of the Kansas City area, by naming the terminal after him.
'The Mayor is meeting with representatives of the Truman Library Institute, dedicated to preserving the memory of President Truman's impact on the world and the Kansas City region,' Megan Strickland, a spokeswoman for the mayor, wrote in reply to an email from FOX4.
'Mayor Lucas continues to listen to proposals on naming initiatives that have recently included honors for former Mayor Sly James, proposed renamings for former City Auditor and Mayor Mark Funkhouser, and other figures of local importance over Kansas City's 175-year history.'
Additionally, the Truman Library Institute Executive Director, Alex Burden, released the following statement:
'The Truman Library Institute had an engaging meeting with the Mayor to discuss ideas to honor President Truman at KCI. The ideas are in very preliminary stages and we look forward to collaborating with civic leaders on a specific plan of action in the coming weeks. President Truman's legacy of leadership continues to resonate and remain relevant 75 years after his Presidency.'
No decisions have been made at this time. Any naming for the airport, the mayor's office said, would require approval by the city council and consultation with federal authorities.
