Children Services celebrates families overcoming adversity
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — Trumbull County Children Services is celebrating its community partners while also recognizing families who have overcome adversity. It's all part of the agencies 'Rising Up and Moving On' luncheon at DiVieste's Banquet Centre. The annual event honors families that have embraced agency services and other resources to successfully rebuild and keep a safe, healthy home for their children. This year's theme was 'hope flutters on painted wings,' reminding us that transformation is possible.' 'It's important for the families that we're honoring as well as for our staff because they trauma and horrible things ever day and for them to see families overcome that, it's an inspiration for them,' said Marilyn Pape with Trumbull County Children Services. The luncheon takes place during National Child Abuse Prevention Month each year. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. A day in the life of a Trumbull County social worker
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) — National Social Work Month may be over, but the vital work these people do continues all year long. Take Trumbull County Children Services case worker Bryan Bartlett, for example. Bartlett is one of the agency's intake workers. They're considered the front doors to the agency and are the case workers who initially look into reports of abuse and neglect. Bartlett says the most rewarding part of his job is keeping children safe and in their homes. 'We want to keep your children in your home and with you and raise a happy family. We're not here to take your children,' Bartlett said. 'We're here to help you and make your situations stronger and your families stronger.' Bartlett has been working at Trumbull County Children Services for 28 years. He says what he loves most about his job is helping children and families. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Over 1,300 pinwheels planted to represent child abuse and neglect cases in Trumbull County
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – Over a thousand pinwheels are now planted in front of Warren G. Harding High School and while they're pretty to look at, they're also raising awareness. Each pinwheel represents one child abuse or neglect case that happened within Trumbull County in 2024. The official count is 1,302. It's a collaboration between Trumbull County Children Services and the Touch Class of 4-H. Club members plant them every year. 'It's very sad that each one of these represent one case in Trumbull County and we're hoping it's lower every year,' said Elaine Brown, an advisor. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month. On April 1, Trumbull County Children Services will hold its annual pinwheels for prevention ceremony. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Woman receives sentence in local child endangering case
BROOKFIELD, Ohio (WKBN) – A woman from Masury accused of leaving children home alone after multiple complaints was sentenced last week in her child endangering case. Brianna Daye, 29, pleaded guilty to four counts of misdemeanor child endangering on Thursday and was sentenced to a suspended jail sentence with credit for time served. She will spend two years on probation, according to court records. Four other counts against her were dismissed. As part of her probation, she was ordered to have no contact with the juvenile victims of the case unless approved by Trumbull County Children Services, and she will have to submit to psychological examinations and drug and alcohol evaluations. Daye was charged after Brookfield officers were sent to an apartment in the 8100 block of Addison Rd. on Halloween for a report of children screaming. Officers arrived and didn't see a disturbance but reported that they had dealt with the residents of the home before on complaints of the children being left alone. Police were also given a recording in which children could be heard screaming, sounding like it was coming from the apartment. Maintenance for the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority (TMHA) — which owns the building — entered the apartment, and seven children, ranging from ages 2 to 10, were found inside the apartment. The children said the oldest child was watching them. Investigators from each agency noted in their reports that the home was in deplorable condition, with rotten food in the sink, raw meat on a table and feces smeared on a wall. Police added that they found an antihistamine pill on the floor of a bedroom and other such pills lying in the bathroom. Daye returned while the officers were there and said she had a babysitter who must have left without telling her, but police said Daye would not provide any information on the person who was supposed to be watching them. Police said two of the children in the home were Daye's children, and the other five belonged to a family member. Another police report shows that charges were filed against the father of some of the children after officers were called to the same apartment in March for a report that a child without shoes was running through the parking lot of the apartment complex alone. Police said the father, Jerami Wells, told police that he left the 2-year-old and 5-year-old children home alone for 5 to 10 minutes while he walked to a drive-thru nearby. Wells was sentenced to three years of probation in September after pleading guilty to a fourth-degree felony child-endangering. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
