Kremlin Aide Says Trump and Putin to Meet in Coming Days
Rabat – US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet in the coming days, according to a statement released by a Kremlin insider. This announced meeting comes after negotiations between the Kremlin and US envoy Steve Witkoff on Wednesday. An aide to the Kremlin, Yuri Ushakov, said that a location for the meeting between the two figures has been agreed, and more details will be released shortly. Also, members of the foreign offices in both countries are in the process of negotiating and finalizing the details of the bilateral summit. This meeting was the fourth time Witkoff has travelled to Moscow, and the visit was followed by optimism from Trump, but no breakthroughs were reached. After the meeting on Wednesday night in the White House, Trump said that there was a 'very good prospect' for a three-way summit. This summit, which has been proposed several times in the past, would be a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and US President Donald Trump. Read also: Ushakov noted that the idea of a three-way summit was mentioned during the Wednesday talks, but that Russia left it 'without comment.' Zelensky, on the other hand, welcomed his support for such a summit. 'We in Ukraine have repeatedly said that finding real solutions can only be truly effective at the level of leaders,' he wrote on X. The US President suggested that the bilateral meeting and summit idea are the culmination of his administration's sustained efforts to bring an end to the devastating Ukraine war. 'I don't call it a breakthrough,' he said. 'We have been working at this for a long time; there are thousands of young people dying… I'm here to get the thing over with.' Expectations are muted for a settlement to be reached by Friday, when Trump's deadline expires for Russia to stop its continued assault on Ukraine. Previous threats from Trump against Russia have stated that unless Moscow reaches or negotiates a peaceful solution to the conflict, the US will impose tariffs and sanctions on the Russian government and economy. Moscow's military and political pre-conditions for peace remain unacceptable for Kyiv, and it remains to be seen whether it will agree to halting its attacks on Ukraine as part of the Trump-announced ceasefire talks.
