MAGA reacts to Trump appointing another Fox News host to top position

President Donald Trump announced Thursday evening his decision to appoint Judge Jeanine Pirro as the interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, triggering immediate support from his supporters. Trump's choice triggered praise from MAGA figures across social media. 'This is EPIC! Judge Jeanine is a freaking BULLDOG! She takes NO [expletive] from the Democrats,' wrote conservative journalist Nick Sorter on X in reaction to the news. 'Okay, let's get Judge Jeanine Pirro confirmed as U.S. Attorney for D.C.,' wrote Sen. Mike Lee on X. 'We have no time to waste, and don't want to give Judge Boasberg any chance to make the appointment.' 'This reaction will be glorious,' wrote conservative radio host Clay Travis. 'Now this is going to be fun. BIGLY,' wrote Trump's Senior Director for Counter Terrorism National Security Council Sebastion Gorka, predicting she would be 'cleaning up the Swamp' for the president. 'Judge Jeanine is truly a patriot for stepping forward to serve in this crucial temporary post,' wrote conservative legal activist Mike Davis. 'As a former judge and prosecutor, she is clearly in a league of her own with her qualifications.' 'Let's hope President Trump can convince her to stay for all four year,' he continued. 'DC residents, particularly poor black families trapped in crime-ridden neighborhoods, are the biggest winners.' A longtime friend of Trump's for over 30 years, Pirro is currently a host of the popular evening Fox News show 'The Five' and has long been rumored for various positions in the administration. Trump has appointed or considered over 20 Fox news stars to serve in his administration, as he values television performance skills as a major qualification for serving in public office. Trump's decision took place after his first choice Ed Martin, currently DC's interim top prosecutor would not take the position permanently, as some Senate Republicans voiced their dissatisfaction with the pick. Trump touted Pirro's record as a Westchester Country, New York Assistant District Attorney followed by a position as a County Judge and District Attorney. 'During her time in office, Jeanine was a powerful crusader for victims of crime. Her establishment of the Domestic Violence Bureau in her Prosecutor's Office was the first in the Nation,' he wrote. 'She excelled in all ways.' Pirro also hosted her own show Justice with Judge Jeanine, for ten years.

Chris Hayes plays bonkers ‘sizzle reel' of ex Fox News host, now US attorney,Jeanine Pirro,

MSNBC's Chris Hayes on Thursday aired a 'sizzle reel' of clips of now-former Fox News star Jeanine Pirro just hours after Donald Trump appointed her the new interim U.S. Attorney for Washington, D.C. The former co-host of Fox's The Five immediately stepped down to take the job after Trump failed to win support for Ed Martin, who currently holds the role. Republican North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis vowed to block Martin because of his support for violent rioters in the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. Pirro served as a judge in Westchester County, New York, and later the county's district attorney. She launched an unsuccessful Senate race in 2006. The frequently over-the-top right-wing conspiracy theorist was presented in characteristic form in the reel Hayed presented on his program All In. Pirro attacked against Hollywood, Bill Barr and FBI agents who 'need' to be 'in handcuffs.' 'As for those liberal Hollywood leftists in need of a lobotomy like Rosie O'Donnell, they are straight-up communists!' she spouts in a 2023 clip. 'There is a cleansing needed in our FBI and Department of Justice ... of individuals who ... need to be taken out in handcuffs,' Pirro rants in another attack. At one point Pirro scolds the president's attorney general in his first term, Bill Barr: 'You, Mr. Barr, are so deep in the swamp, you can't see beyond your fellow reptiles!' Hayes' guest was Sam Stein, the laughing managing editor of The Bulwark. 'I was very impressed by that sizzle reel you played. That's good TV!' Stein guffawed. Hayes pointed out to Stein: 'When it comes time to staff the government, the president of the United States is, like, 'Who's on my TV box? How about them?'' Stein called the Fox TV link 'almost essential' to Trump's government, noting that as many as 23 appointments have 'some sort of tie to Fox News.' Pirro's former Fox News program, Justice with Judge Jeanine, was canceled in 2022 after she became a key figure in a lawsuit brought against Fox by Dominion Voting Systems, which accused the network of making false claims about its voting machines in the 2020 election, which Fox relentlessly, baselessly claimed was rigged. Fox paid Dominion a massive $787.5 million settlement. Now Pirro will be the top protector of truth, justice and the law in the District of Columbia.

Trump appoints former Fox News host as interim U.S. attorney for D.C.

May 9 (UPI) -- President Donald Trump has appointed former Fox News host and ex-prosecutor Jeanine Pirro as interim U.S. attorney for Washington, D.C. Trump made the announcement on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Thursday, after withdrawing his original pick for the job due to a lack of congressional support for confirmation. Pirro continues the trend of Trump, a former TV personality himself, selecting people for his cabinet and other positions from among Fox News personalities and those who pushed his false claims of election fraud. "Jeanine is incredibly well qualified for this position, and is considered one of the Top District Attorneys in the History of the State of New York," Trump said in the post, without providing proof. "She is in a class by herself." Trump picked Pirro after abandoning Ed Martin, as it became clear this week he would not have the votes for Senate confirmation. Martin was a controversial pick for the position, as the only prosecutorial experience he had gained came after Trump named him interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia on Jan. 20. A far-right activist, Martin supported the president's false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election who has aligned himself with Jan. 6 defendants, reasons why Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said he could not support his nomination. On Friday night, Trump said in a statement that Martin will be named the new director of the Justice Department's Weaponization Working Group. "In these highly important roles, Ed will make sure we finally investigate the Weaponization of our Government under the Biden Regime," Trump said, "and provide much needed Justice for its victims." Like Martin, Pirro has been accused of supporting Trump's claims of election fraud following his 2020 loss to Joe Biden, and was among Fox News hosts named in a lawsuit brought against the broadcaster by Dominion Voting Systems for spreading Trump's false election denial claims. Fox News and Dominion settled the lawsuit in April 2023, with Fox agreeing to pay the election company $787.5 million. "Grand slam, home run, hat trick pick," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said in a statement Friday. "She is exactly the right person at the right time to take on this responsibility," he continued, adding that "This is exactly what is needed to clean up DC." Pirro was elected a Westchester County Court judge in 1990 and became the county's district attorney three years later. In the 2000s, she became a right-wing TV personality, hosting Justice w/ Judge Jeanine from 2011-2021 and The Five from 2021-2022, according to her IMDb page. "Jeanine Pirro is yet another unqualified TV personality with a history of putting Trump and violent insurrectionists above the rule of law," the Democratic National Committee said Friday in a statement. "She'll be a disaster for public safety and an embarrassment to law enforcement -- just like Trump's last failed pick for the same job."
