Liverpool move one step CLOSER to signing new left-back

Tsimikas lined up for exit The 29-year-old Greece international has been at the club since 2020 - when he arrived from Olympiacos for around £12m. Tsimikas has never really shown the class or quality to become a permanent successor to Robertson throughout his time at the club - although he has had a lot more starts (17) this season than he might have expected. Advertisement But with new left-backs lined up, the player contracted until 2027 might well find himself squeezed out. A diverse set of teams ranging from Barcelona to Fulham have been linked with signing Tsimikas - although now a newly-promoted side could be in the running. According to Lewis Steele in the Daily Mail, Leeds United are weighing up whether to make a move for him in the upcoming window. © IMAGO Leeds close in on Firpo replacement The Whites need Premier League reinforcements following their promotion from the Championship and current first-choice Junior Firpo is likely to leave on a free for Real Betis. Accordingly, it has been reported that Tsimikas is a target for Daniel Farke. Advertisement 'Leeds are considering a move for Kostas Tsimikas this summer after their promotion to the Premier League,' Steele states. 'It is widely anticipated that Leeds' current left back Junior Firpo will join Real Betis and Daniel Farke's men are in the market for a replacement with Premier League experience.'

Liverpool steps up Milos Kerkez transfer plan as space to be made in roster

Liverpool is seemingly stepping up its plans to address the left-back position during the summer transfer window, with the club planning to offload Kostas Tsimikas. Tsimikas has been at Liverpool since 2020, largely operating as a back-up option to Andy Robertson, but it is clear that the Greece international, who was recently inked with a trophy-winning tattoo, is not an appropriate option to succeed Robertson as the team's first-choice left-back. Liverpool is keen to sign a new left-back during the upcoming window as Arne Slot looks to put his stamp on the squad after winning the Premier League title with a group of players that was assembled by Jurgen Klopp. Robertson, 31, has endured a difficult season on an individual level, but despite that, it seems as though Liverpool plans to keep him at the club to compete with whichever new signing the club makes in the off-season. READ MORE: Arne Slot makes mockery of Manchester United with Sir Alex Ferguson comment — 'Don't believe' READ MORE: Harvey Elliott transfer 'option' could be ruled out due to Liverpool asking price Hungary international Milos Kerkez, 21, has emerged as Liverpool's top target after impressing for Bournemouth, and if he does end up moving to Anfield, it seems likely that he and Robertson will be the two left-backs in Liverpool's squad next season. Tsimikas, therefore, will be allowed to leave Liverpool this summer, two years before his Reds contract is due to expire. The 28-year-old has made 114 appearances during his five seasons with the club, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and two League Cups. Tsimikas may not have featured a whole lot during Liverpool's title-winning campaign, but he has still appeared in 17 games — comfortably enough to guarantee him a winner's medal. The left-back, who moved to Liverpool from Olympiacos, is the only Greek player in history to have won the Premier League. Bournemouth's Kerkez has emerged as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League this season and is a firm Liverpool target. Bournemouth signed a new left-back during the January transfer window, with Julio Soler, 20, arriving from Argentinian team Lanus, and while he was not signed as a direct replacement for Kerkez, Soler's arrival would no doubt smooth over any possible exit for the Liverpool target. In a YouTube stream during January, Kerkez responded to rumors linking him with Liverpool in a manner that Reds fans wouldn't have liked, saying: "I will not go to Liverpool. For everybody listening, I will not go to Liverpool." It would be silly to read too much into that, though, given Kerkez was unlikely to say otherwise and risk piling unnecessary pressure on himself for the remainder of the campaign.

Liverpool defensive REBUILD begins with sale of these three players

Quansah, Gomez and Tsimikas could be offloaded Quansah signed a new long-term deal last year and given his age (22) and his homegrown status, he could earn the club decent sums in the transfer market. Newcastle and Everton are among the Premier League teams listed as interested in the England squad member. It was recently reported that £30m wouldn't be enough to sign Quansah so let's assume he could command £35m to £40m this summer. Advertisement Gomez has started just six games in the league this season. He was initially out of favour under Slot but did provide some cover when needed. Sadly, a hamstring injury ended his season early and the 27-year-old's future is now in some doubt. Liverpool were ready to sell him last summer - to either Newcastle or Aston Villa - and £45m was the mooted price point. Gomez is under contract until 2027 and is a well-established Premier League performer with two league winner's medals in his cabinet. He probably couldn't go for £45m one year on - and with significant injury trouble behind him once again - but Hughes should be aiming for £35m or so before considering an exit. And Tsimikas has been linked with both Olympiacos and Fulham. With Liverpool keen to do business in the left-back area, there is not going to be space for Robertson, a new arrival and the Greece international. Advertisement At 28 and with two years left on his contract, Liverpool should be optimistic of securing at least £30m for the defender this summer. © IMAGO Huijsen, Kerkez and Aina in? Just those three exits alone could give Liverpool £100m extra to spend in the upcoming window. And we know where £95m of that could go straight away. Liverpool are known to be interested in Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth. Huijsen, 20, is on the shopping list of several top clubs and boasts a £50m buyout in his contract. Kerkez, meanwhile, could go for £45m. That means Liverpool get two solid, long-term options in defence for the price of three reserves and still have £5m left over. Where could that go? Advertisement Perhaps part of it could be used as a signing-on package for free agent Ola Aina at right-back. © IMAGO - Ola Aina Liverpool Liverpool can REBUILD defence on a budget The Nottingham Forest defender is out of contract in summer 2025 and has been in sensational form as his side chase Europe. He's also got several top clubs on his case - including Chelsea - but could well be a viable first-team option at Liverpool with Alexander-Arnold leaving. So that leaves Van Dijk standing tall at centre-back with Huijsen in tandem. On the left we have Kerkez and on the right, Aina. All for the price of three players who are expendable for one reason or another.

Sky Sports: Liverpool are ‘Expected' to Sell Defender This Summer

Kostas Tsimikas Set for Anfield Exit as Liverpool Eye Left-Back Reinforcements Kostas Tsimikas has long embodied what fans love in a squad player — passion, loyalty, and the occasional moment of magic. Since joining Liverpool in 2020, the 'Greek Scouser' has never nailed down a starting place, but that has not stopped him from becoming a beloved figure among supporters. Advertisement Now, according to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, the 28-year-old full-back 'is expected to be moved on' this summer, as Liverpool prepare to refresh and evolve their defensive options ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Tsimikas' future has come under scrutiny amid strong links to emerging talents such as Milos Kerkez, with the Anfield hierarchy reportedly targeting 'a new left-back who can initially 'share the workload' with Robertson before eventually succeeding' him. Other names under consideration include Antonee Robinson and Rayan Ait-Nouri, both regarded as 'the type of attacking left-backs Liverpool are looking for'. The shift in strategy suggests the club is now actively planning for life beyond Robertson's prime, and unfortunately for Tsimikas, that means his time on Merseyside may be up. Photo: IMAGO Playing Time Always at a Premium Tsimikas has never hit double digits in Premier League starts across any of his five seasons in red — a statistic that paints a clear picture. Even with Andy Robertson enduring a mixed run of form, neither Jürgen Klopp nor his successor Arne Slot has seen Tsimikas as a long-term solution at left-back. Advertisement As Sky Sports notes, he 'would need three [starts] from the next four games if he's to break that unenviable sequence,' according to data from WhoScored. At 28, and turning 29 in a fortnight, it's only natural for the Greek international to seek regular first-team football. What's more telling is the absence of noise from Tsimikas himself. Despite the lack of consistent opportunities, he's remained respectful and grounded — no interviews agitating for a move, no social media antics. That sort of attitude will ensure any potential departure is met with nothing but goodwill. FA Cup Glory Cemented His Place in Hearts Tsimikas' legacy at Anfield may not be defined by appearances, but rather by the appearance. His nerveless penalty against Chelsea in the 2022 FA Cup final brought silverware to the red half of Merseyside and solidified his cult status. Advertisement That one moment alone etched his name into Anfield folklore. As Sky put it, he seems assured of ''cult hero' status among Kopites for years to come'. It's rare for a backup player to receive such warm affection, but then again, Tsimikas' journey has always been unique. Photo: IMAGO Should he depart this summer, his name will be sung in the stands — not with regret, but with fondness and appreciation for a player who gave his all, even when he wasn't the headline act. Future Plans Point to Evolution Over Sentiment With Arne Slot now firmly at the helm and fresh off delivering the Premier League title in his debut campaign, Liverpool's plans to rejuvenate the squad reflect a club focused on sustained success. Advertisement Bringing in someone like Kerkez would not only add depth but also lay the foundation for the post-Robertson era. The fact that Tsimikas is 'expected to be moved on' is no slight against him, but rather an unavoidable consequence of progress at the highest level. As the summer window nears, Liverpool's ambitions are clear: maintain the competitive edge, blend youth with experience, and ensure there's no room for sentimentality when silverware is the goal. Our View – Anfield Index Analysis There's something undeniably bittersweet about this. Tsimikas has never been the main man, but he's our man. The sight of him racing down the wing, arms outstretched after that FA Cup winner — it's etched in our memories. You can't fake that kind of joy. Advertisement We've seen him make the most of every start, every minute. While others moaned or drifted, Tsimikas embraced the bench and still gave 100% when called upon. In the modern game, where ego often outweighs effort, that attitude is gold dust. It's understandable that Slot wants to build for the future, especially after the triumph of his first season. But some players, like Tsimikas, deserve a proper send-off. Not just a mention in the gossip columns, but a flag in the Kop and a song in his name. If this is the end of the road for the Greek Scouser, we'll remember him not for what he didn't achieve, but for how he made us feel — like every player in red mattered. Good luck, Kostas. You'll always have a place at Anfield.

Kostas Tsimikas shows off new tattoo to mark Liverpool trophy after title win

Kostas Tsimikas already had plenty of tattoos, and he's just had another one to mark a Liverpool trophy win. However, rather than marking the Reds' Premier League success, Tsimikas' new tattoo is of him lifting the FA Cup in 2022. Tsimikas has not featured particularly frequently in the league for Liverpool this season, lining up on just seven occasions, so perhaps he felt a reference to Liverpool's cup win from three years ago would be more appropriate. The 28-year-old started in three of Liverpool's six games en route to FA Cup glory, also coming off the bench in the final against Chelsea and scoring the decisive penalty in the shoot-out. READ MORE: Andy Robertson makes Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk plea over Liverpool future - 'I still believe' READ MORE: Lamine Yamal made Liverpool feelings clear and it speaks volumes about job Arne Slot has done The tattoo depicts a newspaper article with the headline "Tsimikas brings it back" alongside a picture of the left-back lifting the cup. Tsimikas revealed after the game at Wembley that the penalty was the first he had taken during his career. He said: "It was only the first one and maybe I will shoot more often now!' Tsimikas may not have featured a whole lot during Liverpool's title-winning campaign, but he has still appeared in 16 games — comfortably enough to guarantee him a winner's medal. The left-back, who moved to Liverpool from Olympiacos in 2020, is the only Greek player in history to have won the Premier League. There is a good chance, however, that he will leave Liverpool this summer as the club targets a left-back who is capable of succeeding Andy Robertson. Despite the Reds winning the Premier League, Robertson has endured a difficult season on an individual level, facing criticism after committing a series of mistakes over the course of the campaign. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Puerto Ink - Tattoos & Piercings Athens (@puertoink_athens) It makes more sense, though, for Robertson to remain at the club to ease the team's transition to a new left-back, so Tsimikas is likely to be sacrificed. Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez has emerged as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League this season and is believed to be a target for Liverpool.
