Silk. (Causeway Bay)

Local bubble tea brand Silk. has unveiled a retro-inspired store on Causeway Bay's Sharp Street. Unlike its other locations across town, this branch is Silk's first dine-in venue, allowing customers to grab a seat and chill out as they sip on their drinks. The vintage-inspired store features old-school board games and local antiques as part of its decor, adding to its nostalgic vibe. Aside from serving up original hand-shaken drinks, there are also branch-exclusive items available. The star of the show has got to be their pistachio mochi topped with honeycomb bits, created in collaboration with Tsuen Wan's traditional food shop, Min Fong Hong. Only 50 of these sweet treats are available daily and each customer can only purchase two pieces of mochi upon purchasing a Silk beverage. They've also reimagined the red bean fleecy in their latest drink, Cool Beans. It's got ingredients like red bean cream foam, chocolate balls, roasted oolong tea, and popping red bean pearls, making it a must-try for those who want a twist on a classic favourite.

45 arrested in major anti-vice crackdown in Hong Kong

Hong Kong's disciplinary forces have arrested 43 women and two men on suspicion of being illegal sex workers and engaging in unlawful employment, with some found to be providing unlicensed massage services, condoms and lubricants. Police said on Monday that a three-week, cross-departmental operation, conducted from May 14 to 30 in Tsuen Wan, targeted illegal sex workers and those who facilitated their activities, including individuals providing premises and equipment. The operation led to raids on multiple suspected illegal vice establishments and intensified efforts against those violating their conditions of stay. In total, 43 local and mainland Chinese women, aged between 25 and 59, and two local men, aged between 47 and 55, were arrested. 'These illegal establishments are often located very close to residential areas, causing significant disturbance to residents,' said Heung Tsz-kin, Tsuen Wan district operations officer. He added that the operation aimed to combat three main types of crime: individuals renting units to solicit clients in public, those violating their conditions of stay by providing illegal services, and people offering illegal massages and sex services under the guise of being masseuses. Senior Inspector Lin Hiu-mei of Tsuen Wan district's special duty squad said the force broadened its crackdown to also target landlords, property owners and intermediaries who facilitate illegal activities.

Traffic in Hong Kong's Tai Lam Tunnel up 10% on first day under government control

The Tai Lam Tunnel in Hong Kong's New Territories has seen a 10 per cent increase in traffic on its first day of operations after authorities took control and introduced cheaper fees. Advertisement Mable Chan, Secretary of Transport and Logistics, said on Monday that the government would also review the pricing at the Aberdeen and Shing Mun Tunnels as the electronic toll payment system across the city was completed. The government took control of Tai Lam Tunnel, which connects Yuen Long with western Tsuen Wan, in the early hours of Saturday after a 30-year franchise ended. Chan said traffic had increased by 10 per cent between midnight and 6am on Monday as she inspected the situation at the site in the morning, the first day of operations after the government's takeover of the tunnel. She also revealed that the traffic flow on June 1 increased by 40 per cent compared to previous Sundays. Advertisement Chan attributed the rise to the 'significant drop' in toll fees for private vehicles from HK$58 (US$7.40) to a fixed toll of HK$18 throughout the day on Sundays and general holidays

Hong Kong police smash loan shark syndicate, arresting 24 including 12-year-old

Hong Kong police have broken up a loan shark syndicate that charged 5,000 borrowers annual interest rates of up to 100 per cent or more, with the operation leading to the arrest of 24 people as young as 12-year-old. The force said the syndicate targeted potential customers randomly through cold calls and text messages, enticing them with discounted loan rates and no vetting requirements for lending. The loan sharks even claimed they were representatives of licensed money lenders. 'Most residents swayed into borrowing money are attracted by the so-called discounted loan rates. But in reality, the syndicate would collect one third of the loaned amount as an administrative fee,' Senior Inspector Poon Sung-lai said. 'On the surface, although the annual percentage rate is lower than the legal limit of 48 per cent, but the actual annual percentage rate being charged can be as much as 100 per cent or even higher.' Poon noted that the syndicate would also charge debtors a penalty amounting to 10 per cent of the amount they loaned if they could not pay their instalments in time, with many victims failing to return the money owed due to soaring debts. The syndicate would then pursue debtors with phone calls and text messages, resorting to threats such as pouring red paint on their doorsteps. Police said that some members of the syndicate's debt collection team were as young as 12 years old. According to the force, the gang had operated for about 10 months using a unit in a Tsuen Wan industrial building as its base of operations, where they coordinated their borrowing, debt collection and money laundering.

4 pigeons found glued on top of wall, Hong Kong police suspect animal abuse

Four pigeons have been found glued to the top of a wall in Tsuen Wan, unable to fly as their legs were stuck to the structure, with Hong Kong police investigating the case as one of suspected animal abuse. Advertisement A force spokesman said a man called the police on Monday evening after discovering streaks of glue covering a wall near the car park of Block Two of Tsuen King Garden, with four pigeons seen in the same position with their feet stuck on the structure at noon and 7pm. However, a source familiar with the matter said the lack of surveillance cameras at the site was affecting how the force could handle the case. 'Since there were no CCTVs at the site, [we] have yet to be able to prove that someone deliberately applied the glue at the spot,' the source said. As of Tuesday morning, officers reclassified the case as one of suspected animal abuse. Advertisement The Post learned that the incident was first listed as a discovery of injured animals, due to the lack of surveillance camera footage as evidence.
