Two women killed, 15 injured in Kulai multi-vehicle crash on NSE

KULAI: A tragic collision involving a container lorry and three vehicles on the North-South Expressway claimed the lives of two women and left 15 others injured at Km34 northbound last night (May 9). Two men and a woman sustained severe injuries, while the remaining victims escaped with minor injuries. The fatal crash, which occurred at 10.35pm, involved a Toyota Estima, a Mazda 5, a Toyota Hilux and the container lorry. Kulai Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Firdaus Juritah said all the vehicles were travelling northbound when the incident occurred. "Upon arrival at 10.56pm, our team confirmed a major road accident involving four vehicles. Two female passengers in the Toyota Estima were pronounced dead at the scene," he said, today. "There were five occupants in the Estima, including the deceased. The remaining occupants, including the driver, were two men and another woman. All sustained injuries. There were six occupants in the Mazda - a man, two women and three girls, who escaped with minor bruises. The Toyota Hilux with a family of five, including three girls, were unharmed, while the lorry driver, a man, sustained injuries and was transported to Hospital Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim here. Firdaus said rescue personnel provided emergency medical care at the scene. "None of the victims were trapped, and the scene was declared under control by 11.42pm. Operations concluded at 12.13am," he said. The deceased have been identified as Gee Yin Chin, 42, and another woman pending identification. The New Straits Times has contacted district police chief Assistant Commissioner, Tan Seng Lee. Further details on the accident are expected to be released soon.
