Toyota Tundra recall: Is Toyota's most expensive truck reliable or plagued with issues?
Recalls often cause car buyers to question the reliability of certain makes and models, especially mass recalls. No automaker is perfect, and some of the best-selling cars, trucks, and SUVs have been recalled for everything from infotainment issues to major mechanical issues. Toyota just recalled models of its only full-size truck, the Toyota Tundra. The Tundra is its largest truck and the Tundra Hybrid is its most expensive pickup, starting at $58,005. Toyota's recall extends to over 440,000 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid models with model years ranging from 2022-2025. Is Toyota's recent mass recall indicative of a major reliability issue with the Tundra, or is it business as usual in the auto industry? Drivers have their favorite car brands and preferences, but experts have made serious research efforts to determine which brands are the most reliable and the best for vehicle longevity. Toyota's luxury division Lexus ranked second for predicted reliability and Toyota ranked third, according to Consumer Reports member surveys. Automotive research company iSeeCars said, "Toyota has perhaps the best reputation for reliability due to its wide range of models that have performed well over the past few decades" in a research piece regarding the reliability of 2025 cars. A vehicle reliability study conducted by J.D. Power also found Toyota to be one of the top-three highest-ranked car brands. Numerous automotive publications and review experts place Toyota near the top of most reliable mass-market car brand lists. The pickup truck vehicle class is arguably the most capable vehicle class due to the typical body-on-frame design of trucks, ground clearance and the utility of their beds. Some of the best-selling trucks in America like the Ford F-150 are known for their toughness and versatility. The Tundra nameplate has a long history of reliability based on ratings and studies. A study of the vehicles most likely to last over 250,000 miles conducted by concluded that the Tundra has the highest percentage chance of lasting over 250,000 miles (36.6%). It was followed by four other Toyota models, making the top five vehicles most likely to last over 250,000 miles all Toyota models. While the Toyota Tundra nameplate is reliable, recent model years have been under scrutiny since the 2022 model year's redesign. Consumer Reports gave the 2022-2025 Tundra models low predicted reliability scores. The Tundra nameplate may be synonymous with reliability for many drivers, but recent model years could threaten its reputation if recalls and complaints continue to pile up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that 443,444 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid model years could potentially have reverse lamp assemblies that may not "illuminate when the vehicle is operating in reverse". The estimated percentage of vehicles with the defect is 1%, according to the safety recall report. The report also states that "for the purpose of this report 1 means unknown" and clarifies that "not all vehicles in this range were sold in the U.S.". So, while a large number of Tundra models are being recalled, this recall is primarily a cautionary measure to avoid accidents, based on the findings of NHTSA's safety report. Toyota recall affects over 440K vehicles, see if yours is included
Toyota is recalling more than 443,000 pickup trucks due to a defect in the reverse lights that could reduce visibility and increase the risk of a crash, federal safety officials announced. The recall, first reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on May 19, affects 443,444 vehicles from model years 2022 through 2025, including the Toyota Tundra and Tundra Hybrid. According to the notice, moisture may seep into the light assemblies over time, causing the reverse lights to fail. If both lights malfunction, drivers may have limited rear visibility, and other vehicles or pedestrians may not be alerted when the vehicle is reversing. Owners of the affected vehicles can take them to authorized Toyota dealerships to have the reverse light assemblies and wire harnesses inspected and replaced as needed, free of charge. Toyota will begin mailing owner notification letters around June 30. In the meantime, vehicle owners can contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331 with recall reference numbers 24TB06 and 24TA06. To check if their vehicle is part of this or other recalls, consumers can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) into the NHTSA recall database at This article originally appeared on Toyota Tundra recall for light issue impacts over 440K vehicles

(Don't) Back Up: Toyota Recalls Nearly 500K Tundras Due to Faulty Reverse Lights
The latest car news, reviews, and features. Once considered bulletproof, the Toyota Tundra is being recalled again. This time, the issue is that the reverse lights are not operating as intended, leading to poor visibility when the truck is put into reverse during low-light conditions. Announced this month, roughly 443,444 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid trucks from model years 2022 to 2025 are part of a safety recall. According to the recall report, this is because the reverse light housing on some vehicles has a design defect with regard to an adhesive on the vent patch. In some cases, this flaw can lead to moisture intrusion into the lighting housing. Over time, that condensation can lead to corrosion, which, in turn, could cause the reverse lamps to malfunction or fail completely. Although a rearview camera is standard on Toyota trucks, the camera (and driver) need a bit more assistance in the lighting department when the truck is backing up. It's not nearly as big a deal as the engine issues this truck was having, but it's a pretty annoying assembly issue affecting a whole lot of vehicles. As a remedy, Toyota says dealers will replace both reverse light assemblies free of charge. Additionally, the assembly wiring harnesses will also be inspected and either repaired or replaced if corrosion is found to have crept into the wire harness connector. The affected Tundras were built between May 10, 2021, and March 26, 2025. The hybrids that are part of the recall universe were manufactured between June 30, 2021, and March 20, 2025. Toyota will send owner notification letters at the end of June. Built in San Antonio, Texas, the third-generation Tundra made its debut with the 2022 model year. Although this is the first recall for the 2025 model, this marks the 11th time the 2022 truck is being given notice. Last year, due to machining debris found in the engine crankshaft, some 100,000 Toyota Tundra trucks and Lexus LX SUVs needed new engines. That recall was specific to the 3.6-liter turbocharged V6. Tundra owners are probably beyond peeved by now. Had any taillight issues with your Tundra?
