Kolhapur: A youth, seen in a video brandishing a knife and grabbing a schoolgirl by the neck, was arrested by the Satara police on Monday. He was charged under the Pocso Act and was produced before the Satara court on Tuesday. The court remanded him in police custody until Wednesday. The girl had filed the police complaint against him. The youth, an 18-year-old Std XII student, can be seen in the video threatening the 16-year-old schoolgirl with a knife and even charging at the crowd trying to intervene on Monday afternoon. The video also captured the girl's mother urging the young man to put the knife away, while the girl pleads with him and attempts to persuade him to discuss the matter. Residents eventually managed to overpower the youth and beat him up before handing him over to the police. Police took the youth into custody and took him to the hospital for a medical examination. An FIR was registered against him late on Monday. The incident occurred in the Karanje area, close to Satara city. The young man, believed to be a neighbour of the girl's family, was arrested by the Satara police. She was safely rescued." The girl attends a school in Satara city. Police have learned that the school lodged a complaint against the 18-year-old, and Doshi added he would investigate further into past incidents. The accused has been charged under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act for abduction, threatening, causing hurt, and other offences at the Shahupuri police station.

KOLHAPUR: Police in Maharashtra's Satara district raided a private chemical factory at Tasawade on May 21 and confiscated 1.3 kg of cocaine, valued at over Rs 6 crore. Five men, including the company's proprietor and the cocaine supplier, were booked, and three of them were arrested on Friday. Satara SP Tushar Doshi said while the supplier was in Telangana Police's custody, efforts were on to locate another suspect. "Police received information that narcotics was being stored and manufactured at the facility of Suryaprabha Pharmachem at the Tasawade MIDC. When police raided its premises, 1,270 grams of cocaine worth Rs 6.4 crore was seized," Doshi said. Three employees of the company, identified as Sameer Padwal, Ramesh Patil and Jeevan Chavan , were apprehended.

K olhapur: Law enforcement officials in Satara district raided a private establishment at Tasawde MIDC on May 21 and confiscated 1.3 kg of cocaine, valued at roughly Rs 6.4 crore. Five men, including the company's proprietor and the cocaine supplier, were charged in connection with this incident, and three of them were arrested on Friday. Satara superintendent of police Tushar Doshi announced at a press briefing that while one accused (the supplier) is in Telangana police custody, efforts to locate another suspect continue. Doshi said, "Police received information that narcotics were being stored and manufactured in the private company named Suryaprabha Pharmachem at the Taswade MIDC. When police raided the company on May 21, around 4 pm, 1,270gm of cocaine worth Rs 6.4 crore was found in the company." Police arrested arrested three of the company's employees — Sameer Padwal of Malkapur in Karad), Ramesh Patil of Malharpeth in Patan, and Jeevan Chavan of Awarde in Patan. Charges under the Narcotic Drugs Act, 1985, were filed against these three men. Even the company owner Amarsinh Deshmukh, a resident of Satara's Nandgaon, and supplier Vishwanath Shipankar, of Daund in Pune, were charged During the check of the chemical factory, police seized a questionable substance. The three employees had initially claimed the company was into manufacturing agricultural medicines and pesticides. Upon examining four plastic bags in a cupboard, officers discovered crystal-like substances. Unsatisfactory responses from the three employees to questioning raised suspicions, leading to the seizure of white-yellow crystalline material. Initial forensic analysis confirmed it is cocaine. The cocaine discovery in Satara district suggests potential international connections. Doshi added, "Work is underway to investigate the other three elements found in that company, and an investigation will be conducted to find out where their roots lie and who else is involved in it."
