Monday Morning Minnesota: The 'Signs of Life Redux' Edition
After playing some of the worst baseball of the season, the Twins bounced back from their internal decimation by winning two division series! At 56-61, they are only 5.5 games back of the final wild card spot, and Fangraphs gives them a 2.7% chance to make the playoffs. Nothing like a little mid-August optimism, especially considering that the Twins are about to face the Yankees in the Bronx, and then wrap up the week with a four-game series against Detroit.

In the World of Baseball:
The Toronto Blue Jays took back first place in the American League, one game ahead of the Tigers, and 2.5 games ahead of the Houston Astros. Currently, the Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, and New York Yankees occupy the wild-card spots.
The Milwaukee Brewers now have a solid lead atop the National League, five games ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Los Angeles Dodgers round out the top three, and the Chicago Cubs, San Diego Padres, and New York Mets are the current wild-card teams.
Shanthi Sepe-Chepuru at highlights Jen Pawol, who became the first woman to umpire in a regular-season MLB game.
