The UK's smartest cities named after locals take on quiz that only 1% get full marks in
The 10-question quiz tested all-round brain capacity, with a mix of general knowledge, problem solving, cryptic challenges, and optical illusions. We all enjoy a good quiz every now and again - a chance to prove our brainpower and maybe earn some bragging rights along the way. From fun at family parties to puzzling pub quizzes, there are many occasions to test our mettle. And the team at London's Twist Museum have created a quiz that is proving extremely challenging to people up and down the UK. In fact, less than one per cent of people managed to get a perfect 10 out of 10. The quiz tested all-round brain capacity, with a mix of general knowledge, problem solving, cryptic challenges, and optical illusions. The responses of 2,000 participants were broken down into several categories. When looking at generational differences, Gen Z and Millennials produced the highest proportion of perfect scores, with Baby Boomers and the Silent Generation failing to get a single ace. However, when it came to some of the general knowledge questions, a surprising 46 per cent of Gen Z members didn't know which author wrote 1984 and Animal Farm - a question that was correctly answered by 91 per cent of the Silent Generation. There was a wide variance in the answers to the Twist Museum quiz, with the highest proportion of people getting four right out of 10 (23 per cent). This was closely followed by five correct answers (21 per cent) and three (17 per cent). And, perhaps surprisingly, more people came away with no correct answers (1.1 per cent) compared to those acing all the answers (0.95 per cent). The average score across the nation was 4.35, with men averaging 4.83 and women averaging 4.14. If you want to take the quiz and see how you stack up against the nation, click HERE, then you can come back and compare against your home city. While there were noticeable differences between the UK cities, the top 10 were all pretty close to the average score. Taking the crown in first place was England's capital, London. People from Britain's largest city scored an average of 4.67 correct answers. Following in second was Manchester with 4.55, while Nottingham was close behind in third with 4.52. In terms of Scottish cities, both Edinburgh and Glasgow made the top 10. Our capital was in seventh, averaging 4.43, while our largest city scored 4.26, just below the UK-wide average but still enough for 10th spot. City 1 London 4.67 2 Manchester 4.55 3 Nottingham 4.52 4 Brighton 4.51 5 Belfast 4.48 6 Norwich 4.47 7 Edinburgh 4.43 8 Cardiff 4.34 9 Bristol 4.30 10 Glasgow 4.26 At the other end of the scale was Plymouth, where the mean score was 3.94, with Liverpool only performing slightly better with 3.96. Although Cardiff itself scored 4.34 and came in eighth, the Wales-wide average was just 3.96 - on par with those just across the border in Liverpool. If you don't think you've got time for the full quiz, then here's a three-question sample to get your started. 1. Which author wrote 1984 and Animal Farm? 2. What is the square root of 144? And if that has piqued your interest and you want to try the full 10-question quiz, click HERE and see how you fare.
