Benches clear as Red Sox, Angels get into heated pregame confrontation
The Boston Red Sox salvaged the final game of a three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday afternoon. But, tempers flared well before the first pitch was thrown. During a practice session at Fenway Park, Red Sox first base coach Jose Flores had an exchange with Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson. The context of the apparent confrontation or what it stemmed from remains unclear. But, it was clear that Anderson was not fond of what Flores expressed. Flores did appear to start walking away before players and coaches from both teams began engaging in more exchanges. Videos surfaced on social media showing just under one minute of the incident. Red Sox manager Alex Cora remained in the outfield during the heated moment. Cora was seen drinking what appeared to be coffee and also spoke to Angels' personnel at the time. Anderson was on the Fenway Park mound on Monday for the opening game of the series. He allowed five runs, but Los Angeles was still able to secure a 7-6 victory. The Angels followed up Monday's win with another close victory on Tuesday. Boston bounced back on Wednesday and celebrated a 9-11 win. The Red Sox have struggled this season. While Wednesday's victory marked the Red Sox's 30th victory of the year, the team is still trying to find a level of consistent success. Boston has gone 3-7 over its last 10 games. Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson gets into shouting match with Red Sox coaches 2 days after rough start
BOSTON (AP) — Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson got into a shouting match with Red Sox first base coach José Flores on the field at Fenway Park before Wednesday's game. Neither team would discuss what it was about. A video posted on social media showed Anderson and Flores going face-to-face during batting practice. Angels pitching coach Barry Enright also joined the argument before Red Sox third base coach Kyle Hudson came in and tried to break it up. The video also showed Red Sox manager Alex Cora speaking calmly with Anderson, who gave up five runs in 4 1/3 innings against Boston on Monday night. Asked what the brouhaha was about, Cora said, 'Just baseball talk. Disagreements that happened during the series, but everything's good.' He declined to elaborate. The Angels did not make Anderson or Enright available to reporters after the game, which Boston won 11-9, referring questions to manager Ron Washington. Washington also would not get into specifics. ___ AP MLB:

Benches cleared before Angels-Red Sox after heated argument during batting practice
Benches cleared before Angels-Red Sox after heated argument during batting practice Over the course of an MLB season, it's not uncommon to see several bench-clearing incidents. Those just almost always take place during the games. On Wednesday, we got to find out what a pregame bench-clearing incident looked like. And fittingly, it featured an iced matcha latte. As the Angels and Red Sox were warming up during batting practice at Fenway Park, NESN cameras caught a heated argument between Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson and Red Sox first base coach Jose Flores. The two exchanged words for a few seconds and tossed some F-bombs back and forth. When the altercation seemed to be winding down, Angels pitching coach Barry Enright joined in to stand up for his guy and got back into Flores' face. Players from both teams convened to separate the two. It didn't come anywhere close to a brawl as players really just joined in out of curiosity. Like, what possibly could have happened before a game to set Anderson off like that? One reporter speculated that it had to do with possible sign stealing from Monday night, but Anderson does typically use PitchCom. The best part, though, was when Red Sox manager Alex Cora talked through the situation with Anderson while sipping on a matcha. Absolute scenes.

Red Sox, Angels get into heated shouting match ahead of series finale at Fenway Park
Before the Red Sox and Angels had a chance to close out their three-game series at Fenway Park on Wednesday, the two teams got into a heated pre-game argument on the field. Coaches from both teams had to be separated as they jawed back and forth with each other. It's unclear why there was a loud and animated confrontation between the two teams, but it started when Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson had words with Red Sox first base coach Jose Flores, according to WEEI's Rob Bradford. It erupted from there with Flores getting into it with Angels pitching coach Barry Enright, which prompted a number of Red Sox players to take the field. There was kerfuffle between the Angels and Red Sox a little while ago with words exchanged along third base line. Seemed to start with Angels pitcher Tyler Anderson having words with Red Sox coach Jose Flores. Numerous Sox players came over to that side of the field — Rob Bradford (@bradfo) June 4, 2025 After cooler heads prevailed, Boston manager Alex Cora was seen having a conversation with Anderson, who was the Angels starting pitcher Tuesday night. NESN initially posted video of the altercation to the station's X account ahead of Wednesday's game, but later deleted the post. Cora had already spoken with reporters ahead of Wednesday's series finale when the incident occurred, so we'll have to wait until after the game to get his thoughts on what went down. But it would seem as though Anderson took exception to something that happened during Los Angeles' 4-3 win in 10 innings and aired his grievances to Boston before Wednesday's finale. Angels centerfielder Joe Adell was plunked by Boston starter Brayan Bello early in Tuesday night's game, but pitchers don't usually target a team's No. 8 hitter. Maybe Anderson wasn't happy with some high heat from Boston relievers during the contest, as Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman both threw some chin music to Angels hitters (likely unintentional) late in the game. Now we'll wait to see if there are any carryover fireworks in Wednesday's series finale. It's the final time the Angels will play at Fenway Park this season, though the Red Sox head out West for a three-game series in Los Angeles from June 23-25. The Angels won the first two games of the current three-game series, which has sent the scuffling Red Sox to a 29-34 record for the season.
