Hononegah wrestlers ready to get after it at regionals
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Local wrestlers will be going after regional championships this week. Hononegah will be going after a team championship in Class 3-a at its own Indians dominated the NIC-10 Tournament last weekend. They put 11 wrestlers in the finals and all 11 of them won. The Indians have very big goals for this postseason.
'It's just all offseason putting in practices, workouts every day. You know, each day we're thinking about getting better than the day before. It's just that little improvement each day is going to carry us,' said Hononegah 190-pounder Kurt Smith. 'We put in the work hard practices, wrestling hard against each other, going live, pushing each other, and I think the results are showing.'
'They're really hungry individually, but as a whole, this team wants to win Team State,' said Hononegah coach Tyler Demoss. 'They've been talking about it for months. All summer we've been talking about it.'Other wrestling regionals this weekend will be held at Rockford East, Byron, Dixon and 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
