Oxford 'have to step up together'
Oxford United midfielder Tyler Goodrham said that his side need to "step up together" for "a tough season" ahead. The U's lost their opening Championship game to Portsmouth on Saturday but got their first competitive win of the new campaign on Tuesday night at they beat Colchester United in the Carabao Cup. "Everyone is frustrated from Saturday but it is a long old season," Goodrham told BBC Radio Oxford."The first game of the season is always going to be tough and you don't quite know how teams are going to set up, but it was a little reminder of where we are and what we need to do." He added: "We didn't quite hit the levels we need to hit on Saturday. We know it is going to be a tough season, and now we all have to step up together and be a team."Every game is tough but we will just take each one as it comes."Despite spending time in the bottom three in the 2024-25 campaign, Oxford finished 17th and four points clear of the relegation Tuesday, Goodrham caught the eye with a trademark long-range goal against Colchester. He picked up the ball centrally and from outside the box curled a right-footed effort into the top left-hand corner. The 22-year-old scored four goals and had six assists in 44 appearances for Oxford last season. "Hopefully, that goal can kickstart a positive season for me," Goodrham said."One where I can score and create more goals. It might be a bit of a cliche but I just want to play games and make stuff happen."I want to get fans off their seats, so as long as I'm on the pitch then I'm quite happy. I want to find some form. Hopefully, this is the start of a positive season."Oxford are next in league action when they travel to Hull City on Sunday. Click here to listen to more Oxford United content on BBC Sounds

Tyler Goodrham effort enough as Oxford see off Colchester in Carabao Cup
Tyler Goodrham's fine early strike proved enough as Championship outfit Oxford claimed a narrow 1-0 win over League Two Colchester in the Carabao Cup first round. The 22-year-old midfielder showed his class by firing a dipping 22-yard shot over goalkeeper Matt Macey in the ninth minute. Both teams made six changes from their league games at the weekend for what was Colchester's first-ever visit to the Kassam Stadium. Oxford started fast, winning a corner in the opening seconds and going ahead inside the opening 10 minutes. Adrian Akande shot well wide when the visitors tried to respond. Oxford almost doubled their lead when Matt Phillips cut in from the left and saw his shot spectacularly pushed around his post by Macey. Jamie Cumming saved efforts from Arthur Read and John-Kymani Gordon before the break as Colchester worked hard to get back on level terms. Goodrham screwed a low shot wide early in the second half and Cameron Brannagan later warmed Macey's fingers with a swerving 35-yard drive. Colchester captain Tom Flanagan headed off the line to keep out Mark Harris's angled shot in the closing minutes. Yet Danny Cowley's visitors were never out of it and kept believing they could get something out of the tie until the final whistle.
