Mika Salamanca, Will Ashley volunteer in soup kitchens for families affected by inclement weather
Mika Salamanca and Will Ashley braved the weather to extend help to those affected by Typhoon Crising and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). On Instagram Wednesday, Sparkle GMA Artist Center shared photos showing the 'Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition' housemates taking part in food preparations. 'From the PBB kitchen to kitchens for-a-cause. Despite the heavy rains and in the spirit of bayanihan, Mika Salamanca and Will Ashley stepped up to serve — volunteering in two soup kitchens in Quezon City and Marikina for families affected by Typhoon Crising and the Southwest Monsoon,' Sparkle wrote in the caption. Aside from preparing hot meals, Mika and Will also helped in raising funds online to support more communities in need. Their efforts were made in partnership with the Angat Bayanihan Volunteer Network of the Angat Buhay Foundation. The triple threat of Crising, Habagat-induced rains, and low-pressure areas contributed to heavy rains — and heavy flooding — in Metro Manila and nearby provinces. On Wednesday, PAGASA said three dams in Luzon continued to release water amid heavy rains due to the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat and a low-pressure area. Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III has accepted the challenge of Davao City Acting Mayor Baste Duterte to a fistfight—but with a twist: Torre proposed it be held as a charity boxing match instead. Torre said the fight could be a way to raise funds for victims of Typhoon Crising and recent flooding, suggesting a Sunday bout at the Araneta Coliseum. 'Maybe this is a very good time for a charity boxing match. At least Mayor Baste and I can help those affected by the storm,' Torre told reporters. 'I'm sure a lot of people will want to watch.' The challenge stemmed from a vlog posted by Duterte, in which he called Torre out and accused him of being brave only because of his position. Duterte claimed he could beat the police chief in a fight, but labeled him a coward. The online spat follows recent tension between the Duterte family and the Marcos administration, amid ongoing political drama surrounding Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment and her brother Baste's appointment as acting mayor of Davao City.

Palace Rebukes VP Sara for Criticizing Typhoon Response, Rainwater Remark
Malacañang, through Presidential Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro, strongly pushed back against Vice President Sara Duterte's recent criticisms of the government's handling of Typhoon Crising and President Marcos' rainwater reuse proposal. In a briefing, Castro said VP Duterte is not in a position to comment on the administration's disaster preparations as she is currently on vacation in The Hague and was absent during key emergency meetings held before President Marcos left for the U.S. Castro emphasized that government agencies such as the DSWD, DOTr, and the Philippine Coast Guard had already acted swiftly, including providing free transportation and preparing food packs, all under the directive of the President. Responding to Duterte's sarcastic remark suggesting floodwater be sent to Malacañang for the President to drink, Castro said the VP appeared unaware of existing rainwater collection laws, specifically Republic Act No. 6716 enacted in 1989. She added that this proposal is rooted in sustainable water management policy—not simply storing water in pails as Duterte implied. Castro also cited examples of active rainwater collection projects by the DPWH and legislative efforts by Rep. Robert Ace Barbers to mandate such systems nationwide, criticizing Duterte for mocking the idea without understanding its legal and practical basis.

Ninong Ry is among those affected by the floods brought about by the Habagat. On social media, the content creator shared snaps of his kitchen in thigh-deep flood waters. He also shared photos from what appears to be living room, as well as from the garage that shows a lone black car in the floodwaters. "Heto na naman tayo. Stay safe mga inaanak. Makakaahon din tayo. Laban lang," Ninong Ry said. He didn't reveal his whereabouts but last year, the internet-famous chef also experienced flooding in his Malabon home during Typhoon Carina — remember her? Anyway, Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon have been experiencing heavy rains caused by Habagat, following Typhoon Crising. According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday said more than 490,000 families have been affected by the bad weather. Classes in all levels, as well as government offices have been suspended on Wednesday, July 23, while malls and establishments have started waiving parking fees and offering WiFi and access to charging stations. In its 10am bulletin on Tuesday, PAGASA said it was monitoring three LPAs in and outside of the Philippine Area of Responsibility. Pag-IBIG Fund heeds PBBM's call, mobilizes calamity loan for members affected by Typhoon Crising
Pag-IBIG Fund has mobilized its Calamity Loan Program to assist members affected by Typhoon Crising, in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to deliver immediate support to Filipinos in disaster-hit areas. 'We are ready to assist our members affected by Typhoon Crising through the Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan,' said Secretary Jose Ramon P. Aliling, head of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development and chairperson of the 11-member Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees. 'We continue to closely monitor developments and are prepared to provide immediate aid in areas that may be declared under a state of calamity in the coming days. This is part of our continuing effort in heeding the call of President Marcos to deliver timely relief and support to those in need.' Under the Pag-IBIG Calamity Loan Program, qualified members may borrow up to 90% of their total Pag-IBIG Savings, which consist of their monthly savings, employer counterpart contributions, and earned dividends. The loan carries an interest rate of 5.95% per annum, the lowest for cash loans in the market, and is payable over a period of up to three years, with a three-month grace period before the first payment is due. Members may file their loan applications within 90 days from the declaration of a state of calamity in their area. Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene C. Acosta, meanwhile, stated that Pag-IBIG branches are now in coordination with local government units in their respective areas for the deployment of the agency's mobile branch, the Lingkod Pag-IBIG On-Wheels, to receive applications for loans from members, as well as insurance claims from current Pag-IBIG Housing Loan borrowers whose properties have been damaged due to the typhoon. 'When calamities strike, we at Pag-IBIG understand that our members in affected areas need immediate financial assistance. For this reason, we make sure that all our services and benefits remain accessible to our members. Even while our offices and personnel in typhoon-hit areas have also been affected, our branches remain open and are ready to receive loan applications and housing loan insurance claims. We are also set to deploy our Lingkod Pag-IBIG On-Wheels to initially go around these areas once roads are accessible, to further bring our services closer to our members who are most in need. And, for members who have internet access, the Virtual Pag-IBIG is ready to accept their Calamity Loan applications online. During these trying times, our members can continue to count on Lingkod Pag-IBIG,' said Acosta.
