‘He's been great.' As OTAs near, Dolphins coaches confirm Tyreek wants to stay in Miami

Rewind to January and you would be hard-pressed to find a member of the Miami Dolphins who thought Tyreek Hill would still be in South Florida at this point. Yet that is certainly the case as the star receiver prepares for his fourth season as a Dolphin. There are still a few hurdles ahead of him — namely recovery from wrist surgery to repair an injury that hampered him in 2024 — but signs point to the eight-time Pro Bowler being here at the start of the season. 'He's got energy every day,' Dolphins offensive coordinator Frank Smith said Wednesday, calling Hill 'motivated.' 'He's working through his process. He's been great so far through the offseason.' Although Smith was unsure of Hill's recovery timeline, the very idea that the wideout wants to remain in South Florida is a good sign for the Dolphins offense. The Dolphins are undoubtedly a much better team with him on the field as evinced by the record-setting 2023 season. He's even begun to engender himself to his new receivers coach Robert Prince. 'Tyreek's been great,' Prince said Wednesday, adding that Hill even treated the receiver room to dinner. 'If I text him, he texts me back. If I call him, he calls me back. He says I'm going to be here, he's been here. And it's been great. I've had nothing but positive experiences with Tyreek, and he's a great leader in the room.' This comes nearly six months after the Hill prematurely subbed himself out of the Dolphins' season finale against the New York Jets. In the locker room following the 32-20 loss, Hill made it clear that he wanted a change of scenery. 'There are a lot of things I need to reassess about my career,' Hill said Jan. 5, later adding that he has 'got to do what's best for me and my family, whether that's here or wherever the case may be. I'm opening the door. I'm out, bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I've got to do what's best for my career. I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there.' While Hill, 31, has since walked those comments back, he still likely had to regain his teammates' trust. Keep in mind: he essentially quit at the end of the game and then said he doesn't want to be here. Apologies were needed and apparently, Hill has done just that. 'He's been working and doing all the things to show his teammates that this is where he wants to be,' Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said April 15. 'As I told you when we met with him after the season, he wanted to be here. There was no indication [otherwise]. In terms of when he's in the building doing everything, he's been great. Things happen with players.' Hill should be extra motivated following a disappointing 2024 season. For the first time since 2019, the All-Pro wideout didn't crack thee 1,000-yard mark. Context, however, is important here: not only did Hill have to deal with a fractured wrist since the preseason, quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed six games, the most since the receiver joined the team in 2022. That said, Hill's health will be certainly something to monitor as organized team activities (OTAs) get underway in the coming weeks. The good news, however, is that appears ready to don the aqua and orange in 2025. 'Everyone is collectively trying to use the way last season went as our motivation to make sure we maximize each day,' Smith said. 'You don't look forward, you don't look to the past; just say, what do I need to get done right now, and I think Tyreek and all of the guys are really embracing that.'

Colts say they removed schedule-release video due to Tyreek Hill joke and Microsoft licensing

It's time to hang a new banner. The Colts abruptly pulled their 2025 schedule-release video on Wednesday night. Initially, we surmised that it had something to do with the depiction of Miami receiver Tyreek Hill as a dolphin that was arrested by the Coast Guard. It then became apparent that the Colts may have violate Microsoft IP rights by making their video a Minecraft spoof without the appropriate legal clearance. The Colts issued a statement on Wednesday confirming that both reasons drove the decision. Per the team: 'We removed our schedule release video because it exceeded our rights with Microsoft and included an insensitive clip involving Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. We sincerely apologize to Microsoft and Tyreek.' The Chargers also did a Minecraft-based schedule release. It's clear from the early frames of the video that the Chargers that they secured proper permission from Microsoft.

Dolphins coach: WR Tyreek Hill had wrist surgery for ligament damage

February 26 - Miami star wide receiver Tyreek Hill recently had ligament surgery on his left wrist and is expected to be ready for training camp, Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. The coach said that Hill is slated to begin running soon until he's ready to catch footballs, likely in the summer heading into camp. McDaniel noted that Hill, who played the entire season with the injury after getting hurt at an August practice, didn't have a broken wrist. Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said on Jan. 9 that Hill had broken his wrist. "Let's back up to training camp. Tyreek's scrimmaging with the Washington Commanders, and he breaks his wrist," Rosenhaus said on "The Pat McAfee Show." "We have top wrist doctors saying to Tyreek, 'You need to get this operated on, you're going to miss the season.' Tyreek says to me and the Dolphins, 'I'm not going to miss the season, I'm going to play. I want to be here for my team.'" Hill, who turns 31 on Saturday, caught 81 passes for 959 yards in 17 games this season -- marking his lowest production in a full season since his rookie year with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016. The drop came following a pair of 1,700-yard seasons to begin his tenure in Miami, and with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa limited to 11 games due to concussion and hip injuries. Before the 2024 season, Hill signed a three-year, $90 million extension through the 2026 season that included a $7 million signing bonus and $59 million in guaranteed money. The eight-time Pro Bowl selection and five-time first-team All-Pro is due to count $28.7 million against the 2025 cap and $51.9 million in the final year of the deal in 2026. Hill has 798 career receptions for 11,098 yards and 82 touchdowns as well as 114 rushing attempts for 819 yards and seven TDs in 141 regular-season games (123 starts). He also has 96 catches for 1,212 yards and six TDs, and 14 carries for 96 yards and one TD in 15 playoff games (14 starts). Kansas City selected him in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Chiefs traded Hill to the Dolphins in March 2022.

By racing Tyreek Hill, Noah Lyles hopes to make track relevant beyond Olympics

How strong is the word 'Olympics'? Strong enough to make millions pay attention to sports that, for the ensuing three years and 50 weeks, they don't care about. Sprinter Noah Lyles hopes to change that. And the 2024 gold medalist plans to start the process by racing Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill. 'Something that's constantly on my mind is how to keep track relevant,' Lyles told NBC News. 'Track and field has a great reputation inside of the Olympics, but in the marketing sense, when it comes to the U.S., it's just fallen short a few too many times.' Lyles also has a selfish motivation, in light of the lack of enduring and widespread fame that comes from winning gold and becoming regarded as the fastest man on the planet. 'I want to be more than just a runner because there's enough runners,' Lyles said. 'But who's the performers?' So one way to perform, in Lyles's mind, would be to race — and beat — someone far more famous who plays the most popular sport in America. 'I'm not here to play around,' Lyles said. 'I'm dead serious about this. I'm going to bring everything I got for this.' He's willing to take the heat for the perception that he's lowering himself to race someone who isn't a world-class sprinter. 'I get a lot of hate from people who don't believe that I should be racing him,' Lyles said. 'And they're like, 'This is beneath you.' Well, apparently it's not, because here we are.' Some would say that, in reality, it's beneath Hill. Although the details about Tyreek vs. Noah (or Noah vs. Tyreek) haven't been announced (including, you know, distance), Lyles's effort to hype the TBD footrace includes boasting that he plans to set a new world record. 'I'm more thinking about, 'Dang, I have an opportunity to break the world record along with beating Tyreek',' Lyles said. 'So Tyreek better be ready, because if a world record gets dropped on his head, he ain't gonna be able to hear nothing.' Whether that's enough to get people fully invested in the race remains to be seen. Maybe they should stage an argument on Bourbon Street, too.

Why the Chiefs badly need a top receiver in 2025

Yahoo Sports fantasy analysts Matt Harmon and Andy Behrens discuss the potential options for Kansas City this offseason to upgrade its receiving corps and how the team can get back to the Super Bowl. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube or wherever you listen. View more I'm sick, I'm sick of doing this with the Kansas City Chiefs, like, get me one real outside receiver, OK? Like somebody that can run a, a damn, you know, um, 8 to 10 yard curl route against man coverage and like really scare the scare the, the, the, the defense vertically on the outside. And come back to the football so that like when you're Patrick Holmes and you're under pressure, you get to the top of your drop and that guy is open or you can anticipate him being open. We have not had a receiver to do that in this, in this, in this era of Chiefs football. You know, obviously Tyreek is like a one on one player, um, so it's, it's like not even bothering to compare back to then, but like since the Tyreek trade, it's been a lot of these like gadgety power slot guys. I, I don't think Worthy is a pure gadget player. I think he's a really, really good player, but I'm just talking about the specific arc type of receiver. It's probably not gonna happen because like you said, they have a lot of uh needs, but I mean just somebody um somebody in that mold, at some point in the draft, maybe like a low cost free agent. You know, shoot, even if it is like a, you might have to go veteran rental route, you might have to go like distressed asset Stefon Diggs or like, you know, something like that, but shoot, like I, I would take that at this point if you're the Kansas City Chiefs cause, you know, Rice, if he's out there, Worth if he's out there can probably be your primary target players, but they gotta have a player like that, I think if they want to reach their offensive ceiling and, and I, I will, I will die on that hill. Diggs is probably a good call, that that might be the best case scenario there, but they do need, they do need something, cause again, you've got like we're we're talking about 29 year old Patrick Mahomes and you got to the Super Bowl and your window is very open for the next, you know, for the foreseeable future. Um, and I, I would love to see it as well because it's, it's so, it's so stark when they're, when they're in a matchup with a team like Philadelphia, um, that has an AJ Brown, right? Like, my God, like, let's, let's pair something like that with Patrick Mahomes for a few years and see what it looks like. You know this, this team needs to trade for George Pickens. Like, I keep, I keep like imagining that in my mind because I think George Pickens will, again, you could convince me in 2 years he's out of the league or he's, uh, one of the best receivers in the NFL. That's just like that's the George Pickens range of outcomes. Um, and, and I feel like if one of those spots where he could maybe be on the uh positive end of that is is Kansas City, and that's like the exact type of receiver they need. Probably not like a true, you know, they're not gonna find an AJ Brown. I, I doubt they're gonna find an AJ Brown out there, like, show me where that sleeping giant is at this point. Um, it's probably not. Going to be available in the draft, but like just a, just a good starting ex-receiver who can beat man coverage, like get, get that guy and like I think they have to do something creative in that mold. I'm not saying exactly like they gotta go out and trade for George Pickens. Oh, their problems are solved, but like something creative in that mold, I think is probably what the Chiefs have to do a wide receiver. Close
