Dubai Chamber of Commerce Backs Al Sharqi Shipping's Expansion into Kenya and Uganda

Dubai Chamber of Commerce has supported Dubai-based logistics firm Al Sharqi Shipping in its expansion into Kenya and Uganda, reinforcing the emirate's role in enabling local companies to access high-potential global markets. The chamber's Kenya office played a central role in facilitating the move by providing market intelligence, connecting the company with local partners, and advising on regulatory compliance, legal frameworks, and administrative processes. Salem Al Shamsi, Vice President of International Relations at Dubai Chambers, said: We are committed to enabling local companies to expand globally by strengthening their ties with promising international markets and strategic partners. This supports sustainable business growth and underlines our continued commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of Dubai's private sector, enabling it to capitalise on high-potential opportunities both locally and internationally. Kashif Rafiq, CEO of Al Sharqi Shipping, added: With the UAE-Kenya Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Dubai Chamber of Commerce's efforts to support international business growth, we are working to expand our presence in East Africa—strengthening regional ties and contributing to Dubai's wider trade aspirations. Operating since 1989, Al Sharqi Shipping specialises in supply chain management, freight forwarding, and cargo consolidation. Its new offices in Kenya and Uganda will enable it to expand its services across African markets, from customs clearance to investment in local trucking infrastructure. The move aligns with the company's strategy to diversify into key emerging markets. Dubai Chamber of Commerce continues to play a vital role in supporting Dubai-based companies by offering market insights, sectoral intelligence, and strategic connections. Through its global network of offices, the chamber facilitates trade missions, connects businesses with international partners, and provides practical guidance for navigating new markets. Emirates SkyCargo and Astral Aviation Sign Partnership to Boost Africa's Global Trade

Emirates SkyCargo has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Astral Aviation to enhance global trade between Africa and the rest of the world. The partnership aims to strengthen cargo connectivity and facilitate the movement of goods to and from the continent. Astral Aviation, a leading African cargo airline, operates an extensive network of 50 destinations across Africa. Paired with Emirates SkyCargo's global reach, which spans over 145 destinations, this collaboration will support the growing prominence of Africa in global trade. Both airlines specialize in transporting sensitive cargo, including fresh produce and lifesaving pharmaceuticals, which are crucial exports for African markets. The MoU was signed at Air Cargo Africa by Badr Abbas, Divisional Senior Vice President at Emirates SkyCargo, and Sanjeev Gadhia, CEO of Astral Aviation. The partnership will focus on expanding cargo interline options and block space agreements to improve connectivity and boost trade for African businesses. Badr Abbas highlighted the vast potential of Africa, noting that 11 of the world's fastest-growing economies are located on the continent. He emphasized the role of the partnership in supporting businesses to expand their global reach. Mr. Gadhia echoed this sentiment, calling the MoU a significant step in their longstanding partnership to enhance air cargo solutions across Africa. This collaboration also aligns with the growing economic ties between the UAE and Africa, further bolstered by recent agreements such as the UAE-Kenya Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The MoU supports the goals of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which seeks to increase Africa's global exports by 32% by 2035. News Source: Dubai Media Office
