Mleiha Club celebrates Laser Run achievers

The ceremony was held at the club's headquarters, in the presence of His Excellency Mohammed Sultan Al Khasouni, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club; Dr Huda Abdul Rahman Al Matroushi, President of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation; His Excellency Rashid Al Mahyan, Chairman of the Parents' Council in the Central Region; members of the club's board of directors; and the players' parents. Acknowledgment of leadership support His Excellency Mohammed Sultan Al Khasouni expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, for his unlimited and continuous support for the emirate's clubs and players, which has contributed to outstanding sporting achievements and raised the UAE's flag in international forums. A historic first for Mleiha Club In statements to Sharjah 24, Al Khasouni explained that the achievement made by the club's players, representing the national Laser Run team, is the club's first international accomplishment. The players won two gold medals, a silver medal, and a bronze medal, a source of pride for the clubs in the Central Region and the Mleiha area. Gratitude to sponsors and sports authorities The Chairman of the Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club thanked the Sharjah Sports Council for its sponsorship and support of the club, and the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation for its commendable efforts in raising the level of players and the sport of Laser Run.

Distinguished performance In the under-9 category, Hamdan Hamad Abdullah Al Qaidi won the gold medal, taking first place; while Mohammed Khalid Mohammed Saeed Al Qaidi won the bronze medal, finishing third. In the under-11 category, Maid Abdullah Hareb Al Ketbi won the gold medal after a distinguished performance. In the under-13 category, Dhiyab Omar Saeed Al Ketbi excelled, winning first place and gold medal; while Abdullah Issa Ahmed Al Ali won second place and silver medal. Meanwhile, Abdulrahman Saeed Khasouni Al Ketbi continued his streak of achievements in the under-15 category, winning first place and the gold medal. Developing talents His Excellency Mohammed Sultan Khasouni Al Ketbi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mleiha Cultural and Sports Club, praised this achievement, stressing that results reflect the club's great efforts to develop talent and hone their skills, contributing to achieving outstanding levels in local and international tournaments. Honouring the winners Champions of Mleiha Club were honoured during the ceremony attended by prominent sports figures. Her Excellency Huda Al Matrooshi, President of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation (UAEMPF) and Vice President of the Asian Modern Pentathlon Confederation (AMPC), honoured the players in appreciation of their outstanding performance in the tournament. Hassan Al Mazrouei, Director of Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament; and Adel Al Bannai, Chairman of the Technical Committee of the tournament, also attended the ceremony. They praised the strong performances of the players, stressing that this tournament is an important platform for honing sports talent in the UAE.

12th edition of NAS Sports Tournament returns with exciting new competition

As the 12th edition of the Nad Al Sheba Sports Tournament approaches, the organizing committee has completed preparations for the launch of the largest sports event of its kind. Launched and sponsored by Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence, the tournament is held annually during the holy month of Ramadan at the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex. It is conducted under the directives of Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, under the slogan "Limitless Capabilities." The organizing committee announced that registrations for the tug-of-war, jiu-jitsu, and obstacle course championships will close on Thursday. March 2 will be the final date for registering players in the volleyball championship, while registration for the running race and badminton championship will continue until March 3. Registration for the shooting and running championship (Laser Run) will remain open until March 7, and registration for the cycling race will continue until March 9. The organizing committee has approved the venues for the tournaments included in this year's competition schedule. The main hall at the iconic Nad Al Sheba Complex will host the volleyball, jiu-jitsu, fencing, and shooting with running (Laser Run) championships, along with the wheelchair basketball final. The padel championship will be held in an adjacent hall at the same complex. The running race will take place at the Meydan Racecourse, and the cycling race will be held on Meydan Street and various areas of Mohammed bin Rashid City. The tug-of-war and obstacle course championships will take place at the specially set-up obstacle course, while the badminton championship will be held inside the Nad Al Sheba Sports Complex. The Laser Run Shooting Championship is a new addition to the Nad Al Sheba Tournament and will be held for the first time as part of the competition schedule on Monday and Tuesday, corresponding to the 10th and 11th of Ramadan, 2025. Participation in the tournament is open to all ages, from citizens, residents, and GCC nationals, males and females, aged 7 to 69 years. Participation is available individually, and the competition involves laser pistol shooting combined with running over specific distances, across 10 categories. Starting with the under-9 and under-11 categories, participants will shoot twice with both hands at a distance of 5 meters and run 300 meters twice. In the under-13 category, shooting is done three times at 5 meters, and running occurs three times for 300 meters. In categories for under-15, 17, 19, 29, 39, 49, and 59 years old, shooting will vary between 2 to 4 times at distances ranging from 5 to 10 meters, with running distances ranging from 600 meters, completed between two to five times. Judging will be based on the regulations of the UAE Modern Pentathlon Federation. The winner will be the participant who crosses the finish line in the shortest time with no legal violations.
